Abstract

Background: This research is based on the urgency of strengthening multicultural Islamic education in Indonesia's complex social, cultural, and religious diversity. In this context, the classic commentary on Marah Labid by Sheikh Nawawi al-Bantani is seen as relevant as an authoritative source for exploring fundamental values that can be internalized in the world of education. Purpose of this research is to identify the values of multicultural Islamic education contained in the commentary, while analyzing its implementation strategies in schools based on local wisdom. This research uses a qualitative method with a bibliographic and hermeneutic approach, supported by a case study of implementation at MA Asyafi'iyyah Karangasem, Margasari District. Results show that verses 12–15 of Surah Maryam, as interpreted in Marah Labid, contain values of empathy, social concern, obedience, discipline, humility, and religious integration with local culture. These values are implemented through collaborative learning strategies, consistent daily practices, teacher role models, and local wisdom-based innovations such as project-based learning, Islamic educational games, and arts and culture integration. The impact is seen in the formation of students' religious, inclusive, tolerant, and socially conscious characters, both at school, at home, and in the community. Conclusion of this study confirms that the integration of classical Nusantara interpretations with modern educational practices based on local wisdom can strengthen character education and multiculturalism, making it relevant to addressing the challenges of contemporary Islamic education while maintaining the nation's cultural identity.

Abstract

Background: Education not only develops cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects, but also instills faith, piety, and noble character in accordance with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution. Learning practices in elementary schools often still focus on general subjects, while Integrated Islamic Elementary Schools (SDIT) integrate academic and spiritual dimensions through an TERPADU approach (Telaah, Eksplorasi, Rumuskan, Presentasikan, Aplikasikan, Duniawi, Ukhrawi). Objective: This study aims to describe the strategies used by teachers to internalize Islamic values in general subjects at SDIT Qurrata A'yun Abepura. Method: This research uses a qualitative case study approach. The research subjects are teachers and students of SDIT Qurrata A'yun. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, then analyzed through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Research results: The integration of Islamic values was carried out systematically through planning, implementation, and evaluation. Teachers used an TERPADU approach in every learning activity, while evaluation was carried out through teacher briefings and meetings with parents. The main challenge was the lack of competence among teachers who did not have a deep understanding of Islamic values. Conclusion: The strategy of internalizing Islamic values through the TERPADU approach effectively strengthens the integration of spiritual values in general learning, creating synergy between students' knowledge and character. These findings can serve as a model for other Islamic schools and provide recommendations for policymakers to formulate national guidelines for the integration of Islamic values across all subjects at the elementary/Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level.

Abstract

Background: In the digital era, social media has become a dominant force shaping how students communicate, express religious identity, and experience mental well-being. Purpose: This study investigates the influence of social media on three interrelated dimensions—religious behavior, social interaction, and mental health—among students in Islamic education. Method: Employing a quantitative correlational method, data were collected from 96 students at MTs Muhammadiyah Panaikang, South Sulawesi, using structured Likert-scale questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted through Pearson correlation tests and descriptive statistics. Result: The findings show a moderate positive correlation (r = 0.48, p < 0.05) between social media use and religious behavior, indicating that online Islamic content may reinforce students’ spiritual practices. A strong positive correlation (r = 0.62, p < 0.01) was also found between social media and social interaction, highlighting its role in strengthening peer communication and digital community building. Conversely, a moderate negative correlation (r = –0.55, p < 0.01) emerged between social media and mental health, suggesting that excessive use contributes to stress, anxiety, and emotional fatigue. These findings underscore the dual role of social media as both an enabler of digital religiosity and a source of psychological strain. Conclusion: The study concludes that while social media offers educational and spiritual benefits, its overuse necessitates the integration of digital literacy and ethical guidance grounded in Islamic values. Educators are encouraged to embed Islamic digital ethics and mental health awareness into the curriculum to promote balanced online engagement. Future research should explore long-term behavioral patterns and develop integrative digital ethics frameworks suited to Islamic educational settings.

Abstract

Background: This study examines the educational transformation at SD Muhammadiyah Pacul in response to the demands of the digital era. The main focus is to explore how the school implements digital technology in teaching and learning processes and how this affects the quality of Islamic education. Purpose: The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of technology integration and provide recommendations for strengthening institutional capacity. Method: Using a case study approach through interviews, observations, and document analysis, the findings reveal that digital technology enhances student interactivity and engagement in learning. However, challenges remain in terms of teacher training and technological infrastructure. Result: These findings have broader implications for Islamic education practices in Indonesia, emphasizing the importance of building a digital ecosystem that not only focuses on technical proficiency but also embeds Islamic values through innovative learning. Digital reform in Islamic schools should be directed toward policies that promote religious digital literacy, strengthen teacher training based on Islamic principles, and ensure equitable technological infrastructure. Conclusion: In this way, digital transformation becomes both an instrument of da’wah and a means of improving the quality of Islamic education in the modern era.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the influence of the role model and habituation methods on the formation of Islamic character in students at two elementary educational institutions, namely MIN 3 Garut and SDTQ Al Ikhlas. Background: Against the background of the importance of Islamic character education as an antidote to moral challenges in the era of globalization, this study explores the effectiveness of both methods comparatively and simultaneously in forming character based on Islamic values. Method: A quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis method was used to examine the relationship between the role model and habituation variables with Islamic character. The study population included all sixth-grade students at both schools with a saturated sample of 29 people. Result: The results of the analysis indicate that both the role model and habituation methods have a positive and significant influence on the formation of Islamic character, with habituation showing a slightly more dominant contribution. The regression model also indicates that the combination of both methods is able to optimally improve the Islamic character of students. The differences in the application context of the two methods in each institution suggest that the integration of contextual and synergistic methods is more effective. This study confirms that teacher role models as role models and the habituation of Islamic values through routine activities play a strategic role in the formation of Islamic character. Conclusion: The practical implications emphasize the need to strengthen both approaches in the curriculum and school management. Further research examining external variables that influence the effectiveness of the method, as well as long-term studies to measure the sustainability of the character development, is recommended.

Abstract

Background: This study is grounded in the theoretical framework of Value-Based Learning (VBL) and Islamic education philosophy, which emphasize the integration of Qur’anic values into learning as a means of developing holistic spiritual character. Purpose: This research aims to examine how Qur’an-based VBL influences students’ spiritual intelligence and moral behavior. Method: Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected from 25 students at Universitas Islam Makassar through in-depth interviews and analyzed using content analysis to identify relevant themes and categories. Result: The findings reveal that the implementation of Qur’an-based VBL enhances students’ awareness of worship, strengthens their faith, and cultivates honesty, responsibility, and social care. The five stages of VBL orientation, internalization, application, reflection, and habituation serve as practical strategies for teachers to transform Qur’anic values from knowledge into habitual character. Conclusion: This study contributes theoretically by enriching the discourse on Qur’an-based value education and practically by offering a structured model for Islamic educators to integrate spiritual and moral development into classroom practices, thereby reinforcing the transformative role of Islamic education in the modern era.
