Abstract

Superior seed breeding is one of the food products that has the opportunity to be developed in an agribusiness system. The agribusiness system concerns all activities in the agricultural sector ranging from the upstream industry, farming, downstream industry to its distribution to consumers. This study aims to analyze factors related to seed production and distribution problems (government, breeders, markets, and users) in OKI Regency as one of the largest rice producing region in South Sumatera . The selection of the research location used the purposive sampling method, while the sample withdrawal used non-probability sampling by taking samples of breeder farmers in Bumi Agung Village, Lempuing District, OKI Regency. There are 60 rice seed breeders in this village who  were purposively selected as a sample of this study. Primary data in this study was collected by means of a survey using a questionnaire and analyzed using SEM and CLD. The results of the study showed that the factors that have a significant influence on seed production in seed breeding in OKI Regency are the end-user subsystem which includes seed availability, timeliness, and price at the consumer level and the input subsystem which includes seeds, fertilizer use, pesticide use, and agricultural tools and machinery with a positive influence direction. Meanwhile, the distribution of seeds from seed breeding in OKI Regency is an end-user subsystem which includes seed availability, timeliness, and prices at the consumer level, harvest subsistence and post-harvest which includes harvesting, drying, cleaning, sorting, and storage procedures and input subsystems which include seeds, fertilizer use, pesticide use, and agricultural tools and machinery.

Abstract

Bird’s eye chili (Capsicum frutescens L.) is a high-value horticultural commodity with strong economic potential for farmers in Indonesia. Grabag District, located in Magelang Regency, is one of its main production centers. However, inefficiencies in the marketing system—such as long distribution chains and middlemen dominance—often reduce farmers' income. This study aims to analyze the marketing channel patterns of bird’s eye chili in Grabag, assess their efficiency using marketing margin, farmer’s share, and marketing efficiency, and identify factors influencing marketing efficiency. The research was conducted through surveys from November 2024 to February 2025, involving 150 farmers selected through two-stage cluster sampling and five marketing institutions selected using snowball sampling. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, one-sample t-tests, and multiple linear regression. The results showed two main marketing channels: channel I (involving auction groups and collectors) and channel II (only collectors). Both channels were considered efficient, with efficiency values of 2.37% and 2.44%, respectively. Channel II provided the highest farmer’s share at 84%. Furthermore, producer price, marketing cost, channel type, and sales volume had a significant effect on efficiency (p < 0.05). This study highlights the importance of improving institutional support and simplifying marketing chains to enhance the bargaining power and welfare of chili farmers. Channel II is recommended as the most efficient option.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the production, pricing, and income risks as well as the distinctions between semi-organic and inorganic shallot farming in Sukorejo Village, Rejoso District, Nganjuk Regency. The study was carried out between November and December of 2024. This study was conducted using a survey of 75 shallot farmers selected through stratified random sampling. This study employed the Independent Sample T-test and Analysis of Risk (CV). The result indicate that production, price and income risk for both farming systems were generaly low. The factors contributing to the risks in production, price, and income included severe weather, pests and diseases, variable selling prices, and elevated farming costs. Statical testing showed no significant differences in production, price and income risks between semi organic and inorganic farming systems. The lack of difference was attributed to the similarity in land and irrigation practices for both semi-organic and inorganic forms, along with farmers' insufficient awareness regarding pure organic farming.

Abstract

Central Lombok Regency was selected as one of the areas for implementing  the farmer corporation program, focusing on maize commodities. The selection of maize aligns with the potential for superior commodities in Central Lombok Regency, which require support through a corporate base approach. This study aims to examine the factors that influence maize farming production, the level of technical efficiency and the factors that are the sources of technical inefficiency of maize farming. The research was conducted in Central Lombok Regency considering that the area is one of the major maize production centers in West Nusa Tenggara. The sample size was determined by quota sampling with 140 farmers. The sampling technique used snowball sampling. The analysis method used the Cobb-Douglas stochastic frontier production function with the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) approach. The results showed that maize production is influenced by land tenure size, pesticide use, the number of seeds used and the type of seeds planted. The average level of technical efficiency is 0.87. The age factor is known to reduce technical efficiency, while extension services and participant candidate status increase the technical efficiency of maize farming in Central Lombok Regency. Efforts to increase technical efficiency by strengthening farmer groups and expanding access to extension services can be done through increasing the intensity of extension services with relevant, practical and interactive materials so as to attract farmer participation and increase farmer capacity can be achieved.

Abstract

This study analyzes the income contribution of free-range chicken farmers' wives to family income and the factors influencing their income increase in Jamur Hamlet, Jelatang Village, Rantau District, Aceh Tamiang Regency. The study used a quantitative approach with a survey method. The respondents were 240 free-range chicken farmers who were selected purposively. Primary data were collected through field observations, structured interviews, and questionnaires. The wives' income contribution was measured by the proportion of their income to the family's total monthly income. To identify factors influencing family income, multiple linear regression analysis was used, with the independent variables being the wife's age and education level, working hours, and income. The analysis showed that the wife's age and education level had a positive and significant effect on family income increase. Conversely, the wife's working hours and income did not have a statistically significant effect on family income. These findings suggest that improving the quality of human resources, particularly through education and work experience, as reflected in their productive age, plays a more important role in boosting the income of free-range chicken farmers' families than simply increasing working hours. This study confirms that the wife's economic role in free-range chicken farming households is complementary and contributes to maintaining family economic stability.

Abstract

Beef cattle farming is one of the livestock sectors that plays an important role in food security and economic growth. This study aims to identify the production factors that affect the profitability of beef cattle farmers in Langkat Regency. The research method used was a survey, with multistage random sampling as the sampling technique. The respondents were 80 beef cattle farmers. Data collection methods included observation and direct interviews with the farmers. The statistical test used was multiple linear regression using SPSS. The results demonstrate that feed cost, artificial insemination (AI) cost, labour cost, and farmer age have a significant impact on farm profit. The results demonstrate that feed cost, artificial insemination (AI) cost, labour cost, and farmer age have a significant impact on farm profit. In part, feed cost, AI cost, labor cost, and farmer age all significantly affect profitability. Feed costs account for 54.46% of total production costs, followed by labor (41.11%) and AI (4.43%). The results indicate that the key cost items are determinants for beef cattle profitability. Furthermore, to the extent that older farmers tend to be less profitable, farmers’ age has a negative and significant effect on profitability. This association could be explained by higher resilience to change, lesser management adaptability, and limited digital proficiency, which themselves impair access to information and business opportunities through digital means.

Abstract

This study examines the effects of internet accessibility and internet usage intensity on farmers’ knowledge and their implications for rice production at the Lumpang Semar Sejahtera Farmer-Owned Enterprise (FOE). The research is motivated by a production gap, where annual rice output (132 tons) remains significantly below consumer demand (240 tons). A quantitative approach was employed using a census method involving 70 rice farmers. Data were analyzed through path analysis with a bootstrapping technique to assess both direct and indirect relationships among variables. The findings reveal that internet accessibility does not significantly influence farmers’ knowledge but exerts a significant negative effect on rice production. In contrast, internet usage intensity has a positive and significant impact on both farmers’ knowledge and rice production. However, farmers’ knowledge does not mediate the relationship between internet-related variables and rice production. These results indicate that internet utilization has not yet functioned as an effective driver of productivity improvement through knowledge enhancement. Therefore, this study suggests that the FOE should prioritize increasing the intensity of internet use while integrating digital information into conventional farmer group activities to address existing structural constraints.
