Abstract

This research investigates the psychosocial variables influencing lecturers' reluctance to utilize information and communication technology (ICT) in teaching electrical/electronic technology education (EETE) within tertiary institutions in North-West Nigeria. Utilizing a descriptive survey research design, the study focused on a sample of 87 lecturers across seven states in the region. A structured questionnaire, validated by three experts and with a Cronbach Alpha reliability value of 0.88, was employed for data collection. The findings, analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and Pearson correlation, revealed that competence in ICT and subject matter, attitude, motivation, environmental perception, peer group pressure, and school administration significantly impact lecturers' adoption of ICT tools in teaching. Moreover, gender, experience, and qualification were identified as additional factors influencing the use of ICT in teaching. The study recommends that state governments, particularly through their ministries of education, play a proactive role in promoting asynchronous/synchronous delivery systems for instructional planning, delivery, and evaluation to guide lecturers in tertiary institutions within the studied region.

Abstract

Implementation of Working from Home (WFH) or hybrid (WFH and Work from Office) during the COVID-19 pandemic has been known to remain until the end of the pandemic. In spite of that, the implementation of WFH or Hybrid is known to have an impact on interfering with the team functionality that works virtually at the company. Therefore, there needs to be an effort to increase the virtual team’s collective efficacy (VTCE) when collaborating virtually. One of the antecedents that could increase the VTCE is Paradoxical Leadership Behavior (PLB), a leadership style that could combine two competing behaviors into one new behavior, in this case combining the roles of agentic and communal leadership as a whole. Additionally, the Perceived Organizational Support (POS) is an employee’s perception of the organization's effort in increasing welfare and providing support at work are also antecedents from VTCE. Both antecedents are required to be further examined by utilizing vignette experiment 2 (high vs low PLB) x 2 (high vs low POS) between-subject design on 256 employees conducting WFH or hybrid. Utilizing 2 x 2 ANOVA Factorial, a significant effect was revealed from PLB and POS on VTCE. The implication of this research showed that there needs to be an implementation of PLB and post-pandemic organization support to increase the VTCE for the team when conducting WFH or hybrid.

Abstract

Sexual abuse of minors happens at an alarming rate, resulting in various health issues for the victims. The abuse affects children of various ages and at varying rates. Child sexual abuse is a serious social and health issue worldwide. Child sexual abuse is receiving much-needed attention from global society, and the South African government is being praised for its creative legislative frameworks aimed at addressing sexual offences against children perpetrated by adults. Nonetheless, understanding offenders' perspectives is critical in pinpointing the source of their sexual deviant behaviour. Thus, studying the formation and upbringing of child sex offenders is critical to understanding their sexual criminal conduct. The purpose of this research was to investigate how the environment influences persons who sexually assault children. The objective was to demonstrate a relationship between an individual's upbringing and sexual offences against minors. The study collected data using qualitative research technique and semi-structured interviews. Snowball and purposive selection techniques were utilised to recruit research participants from two South African correctional services. The study's participants included incarcerated sex offenders, psychologists, and social workers. The study found that several childhood traumas are to blame for the sexual offending or the behaviour of the offenders. Growing up in a hostile environment, substance abuse by both or either parent, or a lack of paternal attention are some of the early challenges. The living conditions in which a person was reared increase the chance of sexually abusing children, especially if there is family dysfunction. Neglectful parenting style has been found as a risk factor for children who grow up to commit sexual crimes against minors. Parenting style is associated with the kind of attachment a person has with their caregivers as a child. Ambivalent attachment type has been linked to child sexual offending. The study proposes that additional efforts be made to ensure that children are nurtured in a safe environment free of family violence.

Abstract

Stress is among the high ranked work-related injury all over the world, and has become almost general among the Nigerian workforce. Teachers of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), face enormous work-related threats leading to occupational stress. When teachers are stressed, the children's functional development and entire educational outcomes are at risk. As a result, managing occupational stress is particularly important in teachers of children with autism as such is among the sure way of improving developmental and educational outcomes in the children. This study looked at the effectiveness of blended Rational Emotive Occupational Health Coaching (bREOHC) in lowering occupational stress among teachers of children with ASD. Teachers of children with ASD having at least one year of experience were among the participants (N=89). Participants were divided into two groups: bREOHC (N=44) and waitlist (N=45). For 12 weeks, the bREOHC group engaged in a 2 hour intersession face-to-face and online REOHC program. The Single Item Stress Questionnaire (SISQ), Teachers' Stress Inventory, and Participants' Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSQ) are the three measures used. Four sets of data were collected at baseline, post-test, and follow-up 1 and 2 evaluations, and were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, t-test statistics, repeated measures ANOVA, and bar charts. When comparison to the waitlisted group, the TSI scores of the bREOHC group reduced significantly at post-test (Time 2) and follow-up evaluations (Time 3 and 4) (Effect size 2 =.72;.71; and.81, respectively). Between pre, post, and follow-up 1 and 2 measurements, there were no significant differences in occupational stress index sores. Participants were also quite thrilled with the intervention method. Instructors of children with ASD found bREOHC to be helpful in lowering stress.

Abstract

The Synchronous Model has become an important part of the development of learning in the 4.0 era. Online learning for teaching English has become a trend that continues to grow and is developed based on the development of Special English (ESP). The Synchronous Model is a media model developed by researchers as the website Synchronous which has been popular in Indonesia and is being developed. However, this review of the Synchronous Model learning in ESP is still relatively rarely developed in the post-pandemic period, preparing rich and reliable Synchronous technology-based learning that is very meaningful and reliable in the future. This technology enhances the scientific nature of English language education in public health at colleges and at the university level. So, this review systematically identifies trends in Synchronous-based learning in ESP for Public Health courses. Data tracking in this study was conducted using Harzing’s Publish or Perish (PoP) application with three databases used, including Google Scholar (GS), Crossref, and Scopus. From the results of the data screening, 6 articles were found that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The conclusion obtained from this systematic search is that the Synchronous Model is the most widely used model in the process of learning English specifically. Second, the Synchronous Model and language are more widely used in ESP learning for public health. Third, the Synchronous Model in ESP dominates the learning process after the Covid-19 pandemic. These three findings imply that there are still gaps in the Synchronous Model and ESP research. In general, this review is very valuable for practitioners to find out which Synchronous Model is ready to be used and developed and can identify gaps for research in Public Health (ESP) English language learning, this SLR is very closely integrated into technology-based learning with English language education in public health at the college and university level.

Abstract

SIM is a learning method designed to enable students to learn independently with the help of systematically arranged modules. In this study, we emphasize the importance of meeting three main requirements for SIM to function properly, namely: (1) clear instructions in each learning activity, (2) interactive presentation materials, and (3) use of permit values in each learning activity. This study aims to activate the effectiveness of the Self-Instructional Module (SIM) in training student independence. The research method used is a quantitative method with an experimental design. This study involved two groups of students, namely the experimental group using SIM and the control group using conventional learning methods. Data collection was carried out through independent learning tests and material understanding before and after the intervention. Data analysis was carried out using a t-test to see significant differences between the two groups. The results of the study showed that SIM that meets these three requirements can significantly increase student independence. Students who use SIM with clear instructions, interactive materials, and ongoing evaluations show increased independent learning and material understanding. In conclusion, effective implementation of SIM can be an innovative solution in improving the quality of students' independent learning.
