Abstract

AbstracGlobal warming is a colossal problem, that many of us considered it as a regular matter in everyday life. I believe this case is merely because we don’t know what was exactly happened. Within the scope, I try to portray the humble ‘landscape’ of Madureese community in a glance. Madureese people basically are modest, polite but may have a strong willing on things. Just like others, while facing customary problems (not beliefs, ideology, nor religion), Madureese tend to take a position apart from it. Thus, one of the significance step we should take is to raise the level of the problem up, comparable to those five principle issues (i.e., religious conviction, life, possessions, relatives, and mind). And, if it was there, we should restate it and take the proper actions and pro actions. Therefore, this small reminder may become one of my contribution to the problem, warning all of us of what we are going to face.Kata-kata kunciecoliteracy,  global warming, aksi dan proaksi

Abstract

Sufi orders have been instrumental in the life of the Sufis as centers for spiritual training and education. In these centers the Sufis can elaborate their ideas, and apply them in real life. In the passages of time however, these orders were no longer considered simply as religious centers but also as social groupings consisting of people committed not only to practice the teaching of their religion but also to get involved in social problems. There are indeed many Sufi orders with different character and upbringing. But as a whole, a Sufi order is mechanism for the spiritual survival of its fellows. This paper tries to look at the other side of the matter and argues that a Sufi order is not only spiritual in its nature but is also social. It treats Sufi orders as a social body that functions socially to help the murids to survive socially and not spiritually. We believe that the extinction of some Sufi orders is due mainly to their inability to curb with social issues and not because of the nature of their spiritual teaching. The survival of any Sufi order in other words depends very much on its social mechanism and not on the strength of its spiritual dictum.

Abstract

This article seeks to figure out socio-religious reciprocity pertinent to the pluralistic context of Indonesia within its various dimensions of life, especially the religious aspect, through what so-called civil religion. The very notion of civil religion reflects religious, social, and political maturity. The religions, in this context, function as a pivotal source of moral-ethics which generate spirit to build a strong nation-state to pursue its objectives. At this point, the state becomes a shared sacred home to all of its citizens which is free of fear and anxiety. The state plays an undoubtedly important role to protects its people and provide them a means of development in order to allow them to exhume religious freedom and reach a holy meaningful life. It will subsequently enhance and strengthen culture of dialog. This article supports an argument that in order to bring about the vision of civil religion in Indonesia we require three least possible conditions, namely heterogeneous religions which generate positive morality, the culture of sincere dialog, and freedom of religion.

Abstract

This research was conducted by the aim to investigate the effectiveness of Podomoro technique in teaching descriptive text at junior high school at Sidoarjo. The design of this quasi-experimental type was pre-test and post-test non-equivalent control group design. The results of the data reliability test showed that the research instrument was reliable because the Cronbach's alpha value was 0.653 and more than 0.6. Furthermore, it showed the experiment group pretest score was 77.20, control group was 79.00. The experimental group's mean was frequently lower than the control group. The experimental group’s mean post-test score was 87.40, whereas the control group was 79.20. The experimental group’s post-test mean was higher than the control group. The researcher next calculated the mean of the experimental and control groups by t-test (paired sample test) to see if the scores before and after the treatment were significant. It indicated that the pomodoro technique was beneficial in assisting the students in improving their writing skills.

Abstract

An analysis of derivational and inflectional morpheme has great values because sometimes, learners face difficulties in understanding those morphemes. Dealing with this problem, this study was aimed to describe the types of derivational and inflectional morphemes. As this study analyzed the written documents, this study was identified as library research. Subjects of this study were five alumni of the master of English education study program of STKIP PGRI Sidoarjo. Documentation and the researcher himself were recognized as the instruments of this study. The data of this study were all words attached by derivational or inflectional morpheme, and all those data were taken from students’ research abstracts. In analyzing the data, the researcher used content analysis. The results showed that the researcher found and discussed two types of derivational morpheme namely derivational prefix (“-un” and “-in”) and derivational suffix (“-ion”, “-al”, “-ance”, “-er”, “-ive”, “-ity”, “-able”, “-ary”, and “-ly”). However, the researcher found and discussed 5 types of inflectional morpheme covering: plural (-s), possessive (-s’ or ‘s), present (-s or -es), past (-ed), and present participle (-ing).
