Abstract

This research aims to describe the symbolic narrative of animalistic metaphors in Indonesian contemporary painting as a medium of criticism of the socio-political dynamics in Indonesia. The method used in this research is qualitative with Paul Recouer's Hermeneutic approach that interprets animalistic symbols through layers of literal meaning. The data in the research shows the meaning of the animalistic metaphor in painting that presents visual symbols resulting from the creative expression of artists, including Djoko Pekik, Gatot Indrajati, and Suraji. The animalistic metaphor in Indonesian contemporary painting is one of the symbolic aspects of the similarity of human nature or political rulers with the nature of animals that are considered to have savage, wild, greedy and have no conscience. Each artist has his own way of delivering criticism through painting by using historical dramatization, humor, and satire. The animalistic metaphors in these works are coupled with the selection of titles that lead to a parody. The animalistic metaphor is told visually narrative, expressing the artist's expression of anxiety and criticism that is able to bridge the aesthetic experience and critical reflection on the reality of Indonesia's current socio-political condition.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This research is motivated by the development of ecoprint using natural materials so as to reduce the use of harmful synthetic substances. The purpose of this study is to describe the color name, clarity of the motif shape and color resistance to washing with soap produced from ecoprint of bidara laut leaves on rayon twill material with hammering technique using alum, calcium oxide and tunjung mordants. This research is an experimental research with the object of research rayon twill fabric given a motif of bidara laut leaves. The type of data in this study is primary data sourced from questionnaires. The data analysis technique uses the Friedman K-Related Sample test with SPSS version 30.0. The results of ecoprint without mordant, with alum, calcium oxide and tunjung mordant produce various colors. The results of the clarity of the motif shape without mordant is clear, alum mordant is clear, calcium oxide mordant is clear and tunjung mordant is quite clear. The results of color resistance to washing with soap without mordant changed, the alum changed slightly, the calcium oxide changed and the tunjung changed, the results of the Friedman K-Related Sample test from the clarity of the leaf motif shape were 0.001 <0.05. Meanwhile, the color fastness to washing with soap is 0.000 < 0.05. From these data, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect due to the use of alum, calcium oxide, and tunjung mordants on the clarity of the motif shape and color fastness to washing with soap produced from the ecoprint

Abstract

This study was motivated by the use of pitaloka leaves (Loropetalum chinense) to create patterns using the hapazome technique with the help of mordants and fixatives. The purpose of this study is to describe the color names, clarity of motif shapes, and washfastness of the results of the hapazome ecoprint technique using pitaloka leaves on Roberto fabric. This study is an experimental study with Roberto fabric as the research object, which was given motifs using the ecoprint technique. The type of data in this study was primary data sourced from questionnaires filled out by 15 panelists. The data analysis technique in this study used ANOVA and was analyzed with the Friedman K-Related Sample test. Ecoprint results without mordant, alum mordant, tunjung, and pure lime produced a variety of colors. The results of the clarity of the ecoprint motif using pitaloka leaves (Loropetalum chinense) on Roberto fabric without mordant showed that 67% of panelists stated that it was clear, with alum mordant 53% of panelists stated that it was very clear, with tunjung mordant 40% stated that it was clear, and with pure lime mordant 40% stated that it was clear. The results of the Friedman k-related test for color fastness to washing using alum mordant were 0.001 < 0.05, meaning there was a significant difference, using alum mordant was 0.022 < 0.05, meaning there was a significant difference, and using pure lime mordant was 0.234 > 0.05, meaning there was no significant difference from the ecoprint results of pitaloka leaves.

Abstract

The bustier is a women’s upper garment designed with a tight fit to conform to the body’s contours, particularly around the bust, waist, and hips. Historically, the bustier was originally used as an undergarment; however, along with the evolution of fashion trends, its design has been modified so that it can also be worn as outerwear, serving to shape the body silhouette for a more proportional appearance. The accuracy of the pattern, sewing technique, and material selection are crucial elements that influence the quality of the final bustier product. Among the fabric characteristics that significantly affect garment construction, fabric thickness is a key factor. The research aimed to analyze the differences in bustier outcomes made using satin fabrics of different thickness levels—emerald satin (thin), Roberto satin (medium), and bridal satin (thick)—employing the Helen Joseph Armstrong pattern on a mannequin of size M. The methodological approach adopted was experimental, with the independent variable being the thickness of the satin fabric and the dependent variable being the quality of the bustier result. Data were collected through observation sheets evaluated by three expert designers and seventeen trained panelists. The data analysis technique applied involved hypothesis testing using the K-Related test. The findings revealed that the thickness of the satin fabric significantly affects the quality of the bustier. The bustier made from bridal satin achieved the highest average score, namely 84.45% (categorized as very good). Therefore, it can be concluded that the thicker the satin fabric structure, the better the quality of the final bustier result
