Abstract

In the half second of 20th century, methodology of tafsir had developed very significant. Muhammad Husain al-Dzahabiy from Egypt, when he wrote his manuscript for his inauguration as a professor, al-Tafsr wa al-Mufassirn,in 1946, stated that there were three approaches of commentary of Qurn. They were al-Matsr, al-Maql, andal-Isyriy. Many people of the ulmul-Qurn scholars quoted his discovery then. Next, in 1966, the work ofMuhammad al-Fadhil bin Asyur from Tunisia, entitled al-Tafsir wa Rijaluh, had been publicated. In this work, hestated a little bit different from the previous that there were three approaches of commentary of Qurn; al-Atsariy, al-Nazhariy, and al-Naqdiy. His work have been important reference for the scholars of ulmul-Qurn then. Thiswriting is going to discuss about approaches in the commentary of Qurn as mentioned above.

Abstract

The Quran is believed by Muslims as the last holy book, the revelation of God, and the greatest miracle possessed by the Prophet. The Quran contains values, insights, and science, also contains laws that serve as guidelines for human life. Translation of the Quran is one effort to capture the message of the Quran. The act was also carried out by Orientalists who translated the Quran in different languages for various reasons. Competition, suspicion, and hatred and elements of power cannot be separated from the history of translation of the Quran by the Orientalists. Nevertheless, the paradigm over time began to shift, and made some European intellectuals soft and friendly with Islam, although there are still others who continue to follow in the footsteps of their predecessors.

Abstract

Abstract

The commonly accepted assumption among Muslim scholars is that the abrogation (naskh)theory is regarded as method necessary for interpreting the Quran and for law-making. This articleis aimed to explore how it has been used and abused to support ideological interest. From thebeginning, some traditions, which are contradictory to each other, ascribed to Al bin Ab Thlib, for instance, which supports the importance of knowledge on naskh, falls under unreliable category. The traditions have been distorted and interpreted in different context to argue for its importance. The naskh has been used to interpret some ambigous verses, such as what Ahmad Al-Bahrn, aShiite scholar, to set up his own theological beliefs. Meanwhile, the Muslim jurists have applied it asa method of making of law decision. Abdullh al-Karkh (w. 340 H), a Hanafite scholar, for instance, used it to attack against legal opinions of non-Hanafite scholars. Since al-Shfis era tillcontemporary time, the naskh has been regarded as a method of developing Islamic law, of course,in different contexts and trends.

Abstract

Abstract

One school of Kalam/Islamic theology that once flourished in antiquity was Mutazila flow. Flow pattern known as rational and liberal thought that was growing and evolving so rapidly and peaked in the Abbasid era in particular Khalifah Al- Mamun because of the support and protection of the khalifah. But then, the glory and the gold period did not last long, it eventually flew into decline. It was caused by a variety of factors, most importantly; they had done violence coercion and even torture of a number of scholars in the event of al - mihnah when imposing the concept of "Al-Quran beings". The violence was bad for the flow Mutazila antagonizing people. They were followed also by the beginning of a new stream of traditional and more moderate, Asharite. This stream got a lot of sympathy among the people. The Mutazila flow was progressively weaker and eventually disappear from the Islamic world.
