Abstract

The novel Panggil Aku Sakai(PAS) describes the efforts of outsider to do hegemony, even to dominate the Sakai tribe. This research aims at revealing these efforts by using the hegemonical theory of Antonio Gramsci. This research finds that these hegemony has brought the suffering to Sakai people. They lose their forests where they live n also destroy their social and cultural life. Awareness of these things make the Sakai people to "fight" by isolating theirself from the outsider. It is making efforts hegemony failed.

Abstract

This research is carried out due to the assumption that many folklores have similarities and differences in some different areas. Hence, it is important to compare the similarities and the differences in other to explore the theme, the plot, the story endings, the characters, and  the backgrounds of the stories. In this research, the writer chose one of the folklore which titled Si Kelingking that existed in Jambi Province and Riau Province. The result of the research about the comparison of Si Kelingking story shows that there are similarities in intrinsic elements that researched by applying structural approach. Meanwhile, there are differences in characters and backgrounds in the stories  for the comparison of the two folklores with the same titles.

Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve the ability of students grade VIB State Elementary School Number 125 Pekanbaru, academic year 2014/2015 in listening children story in Indonesian subject by applying Review Study Verbalize Preview (RSVP) method. The subject of this study is the 22 students of grade VIB academic year 2014/2015 that consist of 9 males and 13 females. The technique used in this research is test, observation, and documentationtechniques. The result shows that the average of students’ ability in listening children story before the action just reached 69,55% under "Underachiever" category, with completion rate is 45,45% or 10 students passed. At the first cycle, it improvesto 83,18% under "Able" category, with completion rate is 68,18% or 15 students passed. The second cycle, students’ listening ability improve to 91,36% under "Overachiever" category, with completion rate is 95,45% or 21 students passed. The implementation of Review Study Verbalize Preview (RSVP) method improves students’ ability in listening the subject of Indonesian language at the VIB students of State Elementary School 125 Pekanbaru.

Abstract

Language politeness does not only occur in the society, but it also occurs in a close society that is family. Family is the smallest society. It is formed because of blood relationship and marriage like husband and wife. This study aims to describe politeness language between husband and wife in Banjar family. The method used in this study is descriptive method. To get qualitative descriptive, this study applies three steps, they are: providing the data, analysing the data, and presenting the result. The result shows that there are collision toward the principal politeness language of husband and wife utterance in Banjar family, collision toward 1) agreement maxim, 2) sympathy maxim, 3) approbation maxim, and 4) tact maxim. There are also politeness principal applies in husband and wife utterance, the application of 1) approbation maxim, 2) agreement maxim, 3) generosity maxim, and 4) sympathy maxim.

Abstract

The problem in this research is how the naming system of long boat in Kuantansingingi is. The research, entitled "The Figures in Long Boat Names in Kuantansingingi" aims to describe the naming system in the long boat in Kuantansingingi. The data were collected by inventorying names of each long boat participating in the “Pacu Jalur” festival, Telukkuantan, 2012. The author focuses only on the long boat with the figures name. The data were analyzed by using the descriptive analytical method based on the theory of Dessausure. The research findings show that the names of the figures are used because the owners of long boats hope that their long boats also have superiority such as the figures. The figure’s names used are pendekar, dubalang, raja, pangeran, putra/putri, sutan, panglimo, juragan, and panji. The naming system of long boast in Kuantansingingi is done  through a village meeting by considering several things, including the geographical situation of the village such as lakes, rivers, and forests as well as legends or fairy tales, such as the legends about animals, figures, and so on that exist in their villages.  Masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana sistem penamaan jalur di Kuantansingingi. Penelitian yang berjudul “Tokoh dalam Nama-nama Jalur di Kuantansingingi” ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan sistem penamaan jalur di Kuantansingingi. Data dikumpulkan dengan menginventarisasi setiap nama jalur yang ikut dalam festival pacu jalur di Telukkuantan tahun 2012. Penulis hanya memfokuskan kepada nama jalur yang memiliki nama tokoh. Penganalisisan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif analitis yang mengacu pada teori Dessausure. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa nama-nama tokoh digunakan karena para pemilik jalur berharap agar jalur mereka juga memiliki keunggulan-keunggulan seperti tokoh tersebut. Nama-nama tokoh yang digunakan adalah pendekar, dubalang, raja, pangeran, putra/putri, sutan, panglimo, juragan, panji. Sistem penamaan jalur di Kuantansingingi adalah melalui rapat desa dengan mempertimbangkan beberapa hal, di antaranya keadaan geografis desa seperti danau, sungai, dan hutan yang ada di desa mereka serta legenda atau dongeng yang berkembang di desa tersebut, seperti legenda tentang binatang, tokoh, dan sebagainya.

Abstract

“Batombe” is an oral tradition of the Nagari Abai society at Sangir BatanghariSubdistrict, South Solok District, West Sumatra Province. Batombe is exchanging rhymes (berbalas pantun) which is performed as an entertainment on the wedding party (baralek). Batombe is identical with Great House (Rumah Gadang) Nagari Abai which is a unique house because it is a long traditional custom house that has many rooms. It reaches 21 rooms. The rhymes in batombe tends to deliver a feeling of lilting so the singers often drift into the atmosphere of the show. Therefore, as part of community life, batombe often cause a negative effects for the singers soul. This paper describes various things, such as: who batombe singer is; the time to perform this activity; the relationship between batombe and Great House (Rumah Gadang) at Nagari Abai; and the negative effects caused by batombe for the singers. This paper based on the fact that in oral tradition there is a close relationship between text and the speakers and text with context (place, time and atmosphere), a multidisciplinary approach is used in this paper, such as historical, sociological, anthropological, and psychological approach. The method used is descriptiveanalysis method.

Abstract

Politeness are two important things that cannot be separated in learning activities. The purpose of this research is to explain the adherence to the principles of politeness in learning Indonesian dan the scale of politeness used in Indonesian language learning. The subject of this research is the students of grade 2 Al Abidin Bilingual Boarding Senior High School, Surakarta. Research methodology is descriptive qualitative which aims to generate data based on existing phenomenon empirically and the result is what it is. Research data is speech in learning Indonesian at Al Abidin Bilingual Boarding Senior High School Surakarta. Data collection methods that used in this research were uninvolved conversation observation, note taking, and recording technique. Validity of data in this research used triangulation technique of data source and triangulation method. The results of this research indicate that the dominant principle of politeness in Indonesian language learning in SMA Al Abidin Bilingual Boarding School Surakarta is (1) maxim of wisdom, (2) social distance scale used by students with other students, (3) social status scale used by students with teacher, (4) relative position scale of speech in learning occurs in official situations using Indonesian when interact between students and teachers.

Abstract

Negeri 5 Menara is a very inspiring novel. It could motivate youth to fight for success. Ahmad Fuadi’s novel published in Jakarta by Gramedia in 2009 contains some didactic values required by young generation. In order to elaborate them descriptive method and pragmatic theory are used. Among ten didactic values put forward by Ali (1984), there are three of them indentified in the novel by using qualitative approach i.e. the determination covering study hard, work hard, and high spirit; the value of divinity that is sincerity (ikhlas); and the value of skill i.e. the training of leadership and motivation.   Novel Negeri 5 Menara merupakan novel yang sangat inspiratif. Novel ini memberikan motivasi kepada generasi muda untuk berjuang meraih kesuksesannya. Novel karya Ahmad Fuadi yang diterbitakn di Jakarta oleh Gramedia pada 2009 ini mengandung nilai-nilai pendidikan yang dibutuhkan generasi muda. Dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif dan teori pragmatis, nilai-nilai pendidikan yang terangkum dalam novel ini dapat dijabarkan. Dari sepuluh nilai pendidikan yang dikemukakan Ali (1984), tiga di antaranya terlihat dalam novel ini melalui pendekatan kualitatif, yaitu  nilai kehendak, mencakupi belajar dengan giat dan tekun, bekerja dengan keras, dan bersemangat yang tinggi; nilai ketuhanan, yakni bersifat ikhlas, dan nilai keterampilan, yakni  melatih jiwa kepemimpinan dan memotivasi secara handal.

Abstract

The objective of this article is to get to know the effectiveness of inquiry method in improving learning outcomes of Indonesian Language subject, particularly the reading skill aspect of class X students of SMAN 1 Bengkalis. This study is a Class Action Research (CAR/Penelitian Tindakan Kelas). Class Action Research is one of strategies in solving problem that utilize concrete actions and the process of developing ability in detecting and problems solving. In its process, all parties that involved mutually support each other, equipped with the facts and then analyzed. This classroom action research was conducted in three cycles. There are four stages in each cycle: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. In this study, the way to obtain the data is by collecting thescore of descriptive questions and observing the activities of students and teachers. The learning outcomes that obtained after the action by applying the inquiry method to the students of class X SMAN 1 Bengkalis shows that each cycle undergoes improvement. The completeness of individual and classical in the first cycle is 81%, the second cycle is 88%, and the third cycle is 97%. Besides, the absorption capacity of the first cycle students is 77,34%, the second cycle is 81,24%, and the third cycle is 84,78%.

Abstract

One of problems in Indonesia as multicultural society is teaching and learning Indonesia language as national language, local language as a mother language, and English as an international language. There is a kind of tension between the three languages ra nging from language prestige, language policy, reservation of local language, national examination, etc. In multicultural society various interests of language user are accommodated in the three languages, which are in their development influence and sometimes conflict to each other. In this paper disscussess some issues relating language planning and teaching and learning published in Kompas and Seputar Indonesia newspaper from 2011. Salah satu permasalahan di Indonesia sebagai masyarakat multikultural adalah pembelajaran dan pengajaran bahasa Indoensia sebagai bahasa nasional, bahasa daerah sebagai bahasa ibu serta bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa internasional. Ada semacam tekanan antara ketiga bahasa seputar permasalahan prestise bahasa, kebijakan bahasa, pelestarian bahasa daerah, ujian nasional, dan lain -lain. Dalam masyarakat multikultural berbagai kepentingan pengguna bahasa diakomodasi oleh ketiga bahasa yang dalam perkembangannya saling mempengaruhi kadangkala saling berbenturan satu dengan lainnya. Dalam makalah ini dibahas beberapa isu -isu yang muncul berkaitan dengan perencanaan bahasa dan proses pembelajaran dan pengajaran yang dimuat di surat kabar nasional Kompas dan Seputar Indonesia pada tahun 2011.
