Abstract

Reading text in a second or foreign language is more difficult than in the first language. The research questions in this research: Is there any significant difference in online reading on Facebook to ward narrative reading achievement that are thought by using guided reading comprehension? Is there any significant difference in online reading on Facebook toward narrative reading achievement in high motivation? Do online reading on Facebook and motivation toward narrative reading achievement affect to the students’ narrative reading comprehension? The results of the research are: It was found the significant level (2tailed) was 0.000 since 0.000 < 0.05 it means that the students’ narrative reading text on Facebook and motivation in experimental group after applying guided reading increased significantly and was used effective to be taught in a certain group. And there is any influence, and improvement of online reading on Facebook and motivation toward narrative reading achievement. From the probability hypothesis table in SPSS Version 21 the output 0.000 < 0.05 so the HO is ejected and Ha is accepted. Facebook can also be used for teaching other subjects such as speaking and structure. It is important that they must be able to motivate learners to think mentally and psychologically. Besides, the learners are supported to solve problems, to interact with each others, and to learn perpetually as well as consistently. Facebook give the effects and influences, as a strategy and also technique for the English teachers had positive and negative feedback for the students

Abstract

Abstract:The main problem of this study was “Is it effective to teach writing descriptive paragraph through opinion finder’s technique to the eighth grade students of Tri Dharma Junior High School of Palembang?” The objective of this study is to find out whether or not it is effective to Teach Writing Descriptive Paragraph through Opinion Finder’s Technique to the Eighth Grade Students of Tri Dharma Junior High School of Palembang. The population of this study was all of the Eighth Grade Students of Tri Dharma Junior High School of Palembang. The total number of the population was 166 students from five classes. The sample was 32 students taken from VIII.E class by using cluster random sampling. Pre- experimental method was used in this study. In collecting the data the writer used written test and then the data was analyzed by using Matched t-test. Based on the data analysis from the test, it was found that teaching writing writing descriptive paragraph through opinion finder’s technique to the eighth grade students of Tri Dharma Junior High School of Palembang was effective. The average score in the pre-test was 67 and the average score in the post-test was 73 the result of calculation of method t-test was 7.5. Therefore, teaching writing descriptive paragraphs through opinion finders technique to the eighth grade students of Tri Dharma Junior High School of Palembang was effective in increasing students ability especially in writing descriptive paragraph.

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this research was to find out it is effective learning elliptical sentences through diagramming by the eleventh grade students of the Pembina Senior High School of Palembang.The population of this investigation was all of the eleventh grades students of the Pembina Senior High School of Palembang, in the academic year of 2017/2018. It consisted of 147 students for 4 classes. In this research, the sample was two classes chosen through the cluster random sampling. One was treated as the experimental group and the other as the control group. After getting the two classes, the researcher did the individual random sampling by give a pretest to the students from the two classes as pretested and then matched based on their similar scores and got 25 pairs as sample. In research the researcher used the quasi experimental method with the randomized posttest-only control group design; the data were collected through the written test and were analyzed by using the percentage formula and t-test. Based on the result of the data analysis, it shows that the t-obtained was 4.547 and the t-critical value was 1.711 from degree of freedom (df) = 24. It means that the t-obtained was greater than the critical value or 4,547>1.711. It means the null hyporesearch was rejected and alternative hyporesearch was accepted. In conclusion, in was effective learning elliptical sentences through diagramming by the eleventh grade students of Pembina Senior High School of Palembang was effective.

Abstract

The problem of this study was “How are students perspective of writing descriptive text through content-based instruction (CBI)?”. Therefore, the objective of this study was to know the perspective of the students learning writing descriptive texts through content-based instruction. This study applied qualitative method. The population of this study was the tenth grade students of accountant 1 class in the academic year of 2019/2020 with the total of 30 students taken by using purposive sampling. The data were collected by using questionnaire, and were analyzed into interpretation. Based on the interpretation of students perspective of content-based instruction, the students said that content-based instruction could  help them to improve their ability to write descriptive text.Keywords: Perspective, Writing, Descriptive Texts, and Content-Based Instruction.

Abstract

The main problem of this study was “Is there any significant influence of context clues strategy on student reading narrative text achievement of the tenth grade students of state Senior High School 2 of Palembang?”. Therefore, objective of this study was to find out whether or not there is significant influence of context clues strategy to their reading ability of the tenth grade students of state Senior High School 2 of Palembang. The population of this study was 185 students consisting of five classes. The writer took the sample from the population through purposive non random sampling with the total 37 students. In this study, the writer used pre-experimental method, the data were collected through the written test and where analyzed by using the matched t-test. Based on the findings, the students’ average score in the pre-test was 55.74 the highest score in the pre-test was 82.5 achieved by one student and the lowest score in the pre-test was 2.5 achieved by one student. The average score in the post-test was 70.60, the highest score was 87.5 achieved by one student, and the lowest score was 57.5 obtained by three students. To compare the students’ score in pre-test and the posttest, matched t-test was used, and it was found that t-obtained (6.016) was higher than critical value t-table (1.684). It means that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. In means that there was a significant influence of context clues strategy on student reading narrative text achievement of the tenth grade students of state Senior High School 2 of Palembang

Abstract

Abstract: The main problem of this study was “Is there any significant difference in passive voice mastery between the eleventh grade students in math-science and social major of State Senior High School 6 of Palembang?” Thus, the main objective of this study was to find out whether or not there is significant difference in passive voice mastery between the eleventh grade students in math-science and social major. In conducting the study, the writer used causal-comparative analysis. To obtain the data, the writer used two instruments; passive voice test and questionnaire. The data of passive voice test was analyzed through Standard Deviation (SD) finding which is combined to the Degree of Freedom finding (DF), and used the T-Test formula with Separated Variance Pattern. In analyzing the questionnaire, the writer calculated the percentage of each item. Based on the analysis, the average score of passive voice test obtained by math-science students was 88.2 while social students got 80.9. Furthermore, the result of questionnaire showed that math-science students gave 75% of positive perceptions toward English class, on the other hand, social students only gave 25%. The calculation of comparative analysis showed that tobservation was lower than ttable (0.184<1.995). It indicates that Ho was accepted and Ha was rejected. In other words, there was no significant difference in passive voice mastery between the eleventh grade students in math-science and social major of State Senior High School 6 of Palembang.

Abstract

Abstract: The problem of this study was “is there any significant difference on students’ reading achievement in learning narrative text to the tenth grade students of state vocational high school 1 Palembang who are taught through smart technique and those who are not?”. The main objective of this study was to find out whether or not there is any significant difference on students’ reading achievement in learning narrative texts to the tenth grade students of state vocational high school 1 Palembang who are taught through smart technique and those who are not. This study applied a Quasi Experimental Designs. The population was the Tenth grade students at State Vocational High School Palembang with the total number of the 389 students. The sample was 60 students. They were 30 students from X AKL 1 as control group and X AKL 2 as experimental group taken by using Purposive Random Sampling. The data were collecting by using a written test with multiple choice questions and analyzed by using Independent t-test. The result of the study showed that the students’ average score in control group in pre-test was 35.07 and in post-test was 47.04 and in experimental group in pre-test was 55.54 and in post-test was 84.54. The value of t-obtained 4.951 was higher than the value t-table 1.669, at the significant level 0.05 in two - tailed with df=64, It is found that there was significant difference on the tenth grade students’ reading achievement between those who are taught through Smart Technique and those who are not of State Vocational High School 1 Palembang.Keywords: Teaching, Reading, Narrative Text, and Smart Technique.

Abstract

The problem of this study was “Was it effective to use Six Thinking Hats Strategy in teaching reading narrative text to the eighth grade students of PGRI Junior High School 9 of Palembang?” The aim of this study was to find out whether or not it was effective to use Six Thinking Hats strategy in teaching reading narrative text to the eighth grade students of PGRI Junior High School 9 of Palembang.The population was the eighth grade students of PGRI Junior High School 9 of Palembang in academic year of 2018/2019. The sample was 36 students who were chosen by cluster random sampling. This study employed Pre- experimental design with the one-group pretest-posttest design. The data were collected through written test in form of Multiple choice which implemented in pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by using matched t-test formula.The result of the study is found that the students’ average score in the         pre-test was 47,57 and the students’ average score in the post-test was 73,68. Based on the matched t-test calculation, it was found that the t-obtained was 4,854. The critical value of 5% significance level was 1.690. It showed that the      t-obtained was higher than the t-table. From this study it was found that teaching reading narrative text by using Six Thinking Hats strategy to the eighth grade students of PGRI Junior High School 9 of Palembang was effective.

Abstract

The main problem of this research was, “is it effective to apply RCRR (Read, Cover, Remember, Retell) Strategy in teaching reading descriptive text to the eighth grade students of state Junior High School 50 of  Palembang? This study was conducted to find out whether or not is it effective to apply RCRR strategy in teaching reading descriptive text entitle Borobudur Temple and Lake Toba to the eighth grade students of state Junior High School 50 of Palembang. This research was pre-experimental method with one group pretest-postetst design. The Population and sample of this research was eighth grade students at State Junior High School 50 of Palembang which consisted of 35 students. It was taken by using cluster random sampling method. The data were collected by using written test. The results of this research reveals, the average of the students’in pre-test was 59.85 while the students’ average score in the post-test was 78,14. The result of matched t-test calculation was 9.8 and it was higher than 1.691 as the critical value with 0.05 % significance level one tailed testing with df 34. It could be concluded that the application of RCRR (Read, Cover, Remember, Retell) Strategy to the eighth grade students of Junior High School 50 of Palembang was effective.

Abstract

Abstract: In Indonesian educational system, English is one of the compulsory subjects instructed at school. The student learn English for the first time formally when they are still in the kindergarten up to the university as a foreign language, the students finds the difficulties to learn the four skills of English which are listening, speaking, reading and writing, and English also have some aspects in learning such as: structure, vocabulary, and also grammar.The problem of this study was “Is it effective to use oblique technique to the eleventh grade students of SMA NURUL AMAL Palembang”. The objective of this study was to find out whether or not it is effective to use Oblique Technique to the eleventh grade students SMA NURUL AMAL Palembang. The writer used pre-experimental method. The populations of this study were all the eleventh grade students of SMA NURUL AMAL Palembang in academic year 2011-2012. The sample of this study was 42 students, taken by using cluster random sampling method. The written tests were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed through matched t-test.
