Abstract

This study investigates the phenomenon of code-switching and code-mixing within the Ngaji Nahwu learning community by focusing on their forms, functions, and epistemological implications. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through participant observation, audio recordings, and semi-structured interviews, and analyzed with the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that code-switching and code-mixing occur in functional, technical, and educational contexts. Arabic is predominantly used to convey grammatical terms and illustrative examples, while Indonesian—and occasionally English—is employed to clarify and reinforce meaning. Code-mixing frequently takes the form of Arabic words and phrases embedded within Indonesian sentence structures, whereas code-switching appears when speakers shift entirely from one language to another to improve teaching effectiveness. These linguistic practices are a distinctive feature of kitab kuning-based learning communities, as they naturally integrate classical scholarly traditions with modern communicative approaches, thereby offering valuable insights into bilingual strategies that enhance comprehension and pedagogical effectiveness in contemporary Islamic education.

Abstract

Arabic as the language of the Qur'an has a complex morphological structure, one of which is through the process of affixation. Affixation includes the addition of prefixes, infixes, and suffixes that contribute to forming new meanings and enriching Arabic vocabulary. Surah Al-Ma'arij is chosen as the research object because it contains many interesting forms of affixation to be studied further. This research uses qualitative approach with library research method. The data is collected through the study of verses in Surah Al-Ma'arij as well as relevant literature that discusses affixation in Arabic. The results show that affixation in Surah Al-Ma'arij includes three types of affixes, namely prefixes, infixes, and suffixes. Prefixes found include the letters م (mim), ت (ta), ي (ya), and ن (nun) which are added at the beginning of the word to form a new meaning. Infixes are the letters alif, waw, and tasydid which are inserted in the middle of the base word. Meanwhile, suffixes in the form of additional letters و (waw), ن (nun), and ي (ya) are found at the end of words as grammatical markers. This affixation process enriches the word structure and clarifies the grammatical function in the context of the verse. The affixation in Surah Al-Ma'arij shows the complexity of Arabic morphology that allows the formation of variations in the meaning and function of words. An in-depth understanding of the affixation process is very important in interpreting the Qur'anic text more accurately. This research is expected to be a reference for Arabic linguistics and Qur'anic morphology studies in the future.

Abstract

The repression of female sexuality by the patriarchal system hinders women in recognising and expressing their sexuality fully. In response to this, Luce Irigaray emphasises the importance of creating a ‘female language’ that originates from the experiences of women's bodies and sexuality. This study analyses the construction of sexuality and female language in two novels, namely Larung by Ayu Utami (Indonesia) and Banat Al-Riyadh by Rajaa Alsanea (Saudi Arabia), which critically break the taboo of sexuality through the representation of female protagonists from different backgrounds. The research methods used were descriptive qualitative and comparative American approaches. The results show that Larung depicts sexuality as an autonomous right of women to enjoy and explore their sexuality freely and independently of patriarchal norms. The language of women in this novel uses metaphors that affirm women's subjectivity in sexual relationships. Meanwhile, sexuality in Banat Al-Riyadh is reduced to a mere form of service in marriage, and the language used by women displays subtle resistance and awareness stemming from wounds and trauma as victims in sexual relationships.

Abstract

This study explores the phonetic miracle (iʿjāz shautī) of the Arabic letter Qāf (ق) in Surah Qāf, aiming to reveal its rhetorical, acoustic, and epistemological functions within Qur’anic discourse. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, the research applies micro-corpus analysis via the QSoft platform. Classical Arabic phonological theories—including makhārij al-ḥurūf, qalqalah, and tajānus ṣawtī—were systematically combined with semantic mapping of significant roots such as Q-R-A and Kh-L-Q to highlight the interplay between sound and meaning. The analysis identified 57 occurrences of the letter Qāf, with 76% situated in theological contexts directly related to themes of creation, resurrection, and divine power. Detailed assimilation patterns were observed: 20 progressive/regressive, 10 partial, and 27 unassimilated cases, all contributing to unique sound textures in the surah. Furthermore, the rhythmic recurrence of Qāf every 3–5 verses provides phonological anchoring, reinforcing the surah’s central messages while intensifying its spiritual resonance. This recurring sound pattern demonstrates that Qāf operates beyond its mere articulatory function, serving as a thematic and epistemological anchor that ensures continuity and coherence across the surah. Ultimately, the study concludes that iʿjāz shautī in Surah Qāf is not only an aesthetic phenomenon but also a measurable rhetorical force that strengthens Qur’anic daʿwah through phonetic precision, symbolic depth, and divine intentionality.

Abstract

The affective dimension in Arabic language learning has often been overlooked in favor of cognitive outcomes, despite its importance in shaping students’ values, attitudes, and motivation, especially within Islamic education contexts. This study aims to explore the theoretical and conceptual framework of affective evaluation and its integration into Arabic learning. Using a qualitative approach with library research methods, the study analyzes key educational and psychological literature to identify principles, instruments, and implementation strategies for affective assessment. The findings indicate that affective evaluation, grounded in Bloom’s taxonomy, plays a significant role in fostering students’ moral and emotional development. However, challenges such as lack of teacher training, limited time, and absence of contextualized instruments hinder its application. To address this, the study proposes strategies including reflective activities, behavioral observation, and value-based projects to embed affective assessment into teaching practices. This conceptual analysis contributes to filling a gap in Arabic education research by offering practical guidelines for character-oriented evaluation. Future empirical studies are needed to validate these models in real classroom settings.

Abstract

The eclectic method is a method that combines various existing learning methods, such as grammar-translation, direct, audiolingual, and communicative methods, by considering student needs, learning contexts, and instructional objectives. This study aims to describe the application of the eclectic method in Arabic language learning at MTs Normal Islam Putra Rakha Amuntai. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. In this study, several research instruments were used in the form of observation, documentation, and structured interviews sourced from Arabic language teachers and eighth-grade students in the 2024-2025 academic year at MTs Normal Islam Putra Rakha Amuntai. The results of the study indicate that the use of the eclectic method in Arabic language learning, by combining various teaching methods flexibly, makes the learning atmosphere more varied and responsive to the needs and backgrounds of various students. This method can increase students' motivation and understanding of Arabic language material. However, there are several obstacles, such as limited learning time, supporting resources, and differences in students' initial abilities. Arabic language teachers can use eclectic methods to adapt learning strategies to classroom dynamics and student circumstances.

Abstract

Arabic language learning at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang is part of the Special Arabic Language Development Program (PKPBA), which must be followed by all students, including students of the Medical Study Program. Diverse educational backgrounds and differences in study focus make mastering Arabic a challenge. On the other hand, medical students generally have high cognitive intelligence in a compound manner; in the context of language education, linguistic verbal intelligence is the key, accompanied by high learning enthusiasm as well. This study aims to analyze the effect of verbal linguistic intelligence and learning motivation on medical students' mastery of Arabic. This research uses a mixed-method approach with quantitative data as primary and qualitative data as supporting, collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Quantitative analysis was conducted with multiple linear regression and partial test (t-test), while qualitative analysis used the Miles and Huberman model. The results showed that partially verbal linguistic intelligence has a significant effect on Arabic language mastery (sig. 0.004), as well as motivation (sig. 0.000). Simultaneously, however, only motivation remained significant (sig. 0.000), while intelligence became insignificant (sig. 0.259), indicating that learning motivation was the dominant factor. Qualitative findings support these results, showing that phonetic and semantic aspects are easier to master, while syntax and praxis still require more attention in the learning process.

Abstract

The rapid growth of social media has positioned it as an influential alternative learning space, particularly for the digital native generation that actively engages with visual and interactive content. This study seeks to examine the educational potential of Arabic language learning through short-form videos disseminated via popular platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were gathered through systematic content analysis of Arabic learning videos, in-depth interviews with digital educational content creators, and focused group discussions with students of Arabic Language Education (PBA). The findings indicate that short video formats, enhanced with appealing visual elements, interactive features, and communicative language styles, significantly capture learners’ attention while simultaneously fostering motivation and sustained engagement. In addition, these platforms provide a more informal and dynamic interaction space between educators and learners, enabling flexible knowledge exchange within the digital ecosystem. The study underscores the strategic urgency of developing micro-content-based approaches in order to make Arabic language education more adaptive, innovative, and responsive to the learning patterns of Generation Z.
