Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkapkan prinsip kesantunan yang digunakan anak ketika berargumen dengan orang tuanya.  Data diperoleh secara purposif pada anak bernama AP yang psikogramnya menunjukan keunggulan dalam ranah logika dan linguistik. Data lisan dikumpulkan dalam rentang waktu satu bulan dengan metode observasi dan difokuskan pada argumentasi AP atas penolakan dari permintaanya. Setelah disortir terdapat 124 penolakan dan 97 kali argumentasi. Prosedur analisis data adalah memadankan tuturan penolakan dengan teori kesantunan dari Leech (1983). Dari hasil analisis, lebih dari 80% argumentasi AP parallel dengan tact maxim.  Ini menunjukan bahwa dalam argumentasi persuasifnya, ia berusaha untuk memaksimalkan keuntungan dan meminimalkan kerugian pada orang lain, tidak dirinya sendiri. This study is aimed at describing the application of politeness principle by a child when arguing with her parent. The data is obtained purposively on a 5 years old girl named AP, where her psikogram shows that she excels in logic and linguistic. Speech data is collected within a month by observation method. Data selection shows 124 refusals and 97 arguments. I consulted the data to Leech (1983) politeness principles. It shows that more than 80% of AP’s argumentation complies with tact maxim

Abstract

Madura language faces an ironical condition where, as a widely-spoken local language at present, it does not have any standardized spelling which is hardly accepted by linguists of Madurese language. In addition, the spelling problem is a basic way to develop and construct a language. Literally, the spelling of Madura language in 2012 is a revision from the spelling of BM (Bahasa Madura) in 2003 by the users of the language who thought that the language is hard to use. Due to this reason, many observers of Madura language such as writers, men of letters and cultural observers suggested to simplify the use ofMadura language’s symbols. The method that is used in this research is a descriptive qualitative. The data collection is done by in depth interview circumtantially with the observers of Madura language who are specifically experts in three dialects (Sumenep, Pamekasan, and Bangkalan)

Abstract

This research is aimed to identify the appraisal properties in the text of commercial advertisement in Nova tabloid. There are 17 texts of commercial advertisement as the samples of data of research, which were obtained by purposive sampling method. Those texts have been analysed by appraisal system theory stated by White (1998). The appraisal system focuses on the assessment and evaluation of attitude (affect, judgment and appreciation), amplifying attitude and the source of attitude (graduation). The result showed that the positive appreciation dominates the assessment of attitude on the commercial advertisement texts. The manufacturers gave the positive attitude to the product and service being advertised in Nova tabloid because they want to persuade and suggest that the consumers buy and use their products

Abstract

Not only does art   have   self-fullfillment, but  it also has axiological  benefits both socially, culturally, religiously, and economiclally.  So does Sara Douda dance.  Sara Douda aesthetics  is first contained  in its whole dance movements. In addition, it  can also be found in the whole dance equipments.  Moreover,  this dance aesthetics  may  also be contained in the verbal symbols in the speech forms  prior to the dance performance. However,  both verbal and non-verbal aesthetical forms are incorporated by the pieces of socio-cultural and  religious values in the Loli community about  their honoring their ancestors,  having social harmony, and  highly respecting each other among the community members. This study uses a cultural linguistic approach to find out and to review the aesthetics of Sara Douda dance.   Seni memang memiliki kepenuhan dalam dirinya sendiri. Tetapi ia juga sekaligus punya faedah aksiologis, baik secara sosial, kultural, religius maupun secara ekonomis. Tarian Sara Douda pun demikian. Estetika Sara Douda pertama-tama ada dalam semua gerak tariannya. Juga dalam seluruh perlengkapan tarian tersebut. Bukan itu saja, estetika tarian ini juga ada dalam simbol-simbol verbal berupa tuturan menjelang tarian. Tetapi baik bentuk-bentuk estetisasi nonverbal maupun verbal, sama-sama disatukan oleh kepingan-kepingan nilai-nilai sosio-kultural dan religius masyarakat Loli tentang penghormatan kepada leluhur, tentang harmoni sosial, dan tentang penghargaan yang tinggi terhadap satu sama lain. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan linguistik kebudayaan demi menemukan dan menelaah estetika dalam tarian Sara Douda

Abstract

Traditional ceremony is currently displaced by the development of the times and technological advances. Society in general no longer understand the value of philosophy and local wisdom in traditional ceremonies. One of the traditional ceremonies that is currently faded is a traditional ceremony of calling. In this paper will be discussed how the value of philosophy and local wisdom Javanese traditional ceremonies is represented. The data were taken from the wedding ceremony especially the panggih session. They were taken using observation and analyzed with referential technique. The result shows that in panggih, we can find some philosophical values and local wisdom like in marriage, the couple must have good relationship and communication, and are equal. They have responsibilities and love each other. The local wisdom contained in the panggih ceremony is balangan gantal sirih, wijik dadi, kacar-kucur or tampa kaya, dhahar klimah, and sungkeman

Abstract

Preposisi adalah salah satu kelas kata yang sulit untuk diajarkan, karena bisa jadi preposisi memiliki makna yang abstrak, apalagi dlam konteks bahasa kedua, seperti pada kasus Singapora, dimana ada lebih dari satu bahasa yang digunakan dalam kegiatan sehari-hari. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji kesalahan penggunaan preposisi pada bahasa Inggris Singapora dalam kaitannya dengan pengaruh bahasa ibu dan bahasa lain yang juga digunakan secara bersama-sama. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa terjadi kesalahan penggunaan preposisi terutama untuk preposisi yang menunjukkan makna abstrak. Selain itu proses generalisasi dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris juga menunjukkan bagaimana kesalahan penggunaan preposisi bisa terjadi. Bahasa Melayu dan bahasa Cina memberikan pengaruh yang besar dalam pemahaman makna preposisi. Preposisi bahasa Inggris yang digunakan seringkali masih mengacu pada makna asalnya dalam bahasa melayu, dan digunakan sebagaimana mereka menggunakan partikel dalam bahasa Cina.

Abstract

PROSES KOGNITIF DALAM  UNGKAPAN METAFORIS Deli Nirmala deliundip@gmail.com Abstract Speech is produced through cognitive or psychological process, physiological process, and physical process (de Saussure, 1959). The cognitive process is the focus of this study especially in producing metaphorical expressions. This paper is trying to elaborate how the cognitive process happens when someone is producing metaphorical expressions. The data used for explaining the cognitive process are the metaphorical expressions found in bahasa Indonesia. The data were collected randomly from the sources like conversation, news, or bahasa Indonesia used in Indonesian newspapers. The method used is observation and intuition. To analyze, I used identity method, distributional method, and reflective-introspective methods. The result shows that the cognitive process in producing metaphorical process is done by using associative strategies by showing the correspondences between the source concept and the target concept. The correspondences found are those in embodied experiences, characters, functions, characteristics, and strenghts.   Proses menghasilkan tuturan meliputi proses kognitif, fisiologis, dan fisik (de Saussure, 1959). Proses kogntif menjadi fokus dalam tulisan ini khususnya dalam proses menghasilkan ungkapan metaforis. Dalam tulisan ini, saya akan mencoba mengungkap bagaimana proses kognitif terjadi ketika seseorang menghasilkan ungkapan metaforis. Data yang dijadikan dasar dalam menjelaskan proses kognitif adalah ungkapan metaforis dalam bahasa Indonesia. Data dipilih secara random dari sumber berupa percakapan, berita, bahasa di surat kabar. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode observasi dan intuisi. Untuk menganalisis, saya menggunakan metode padan, distribusional, dan reflektif-introspektif. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa proses kognitif dalam menghasilkan ungkapan metaforis dilakukan dengan strategi asosiatif dengan menunjukkan korespondensi  antara konsep sumber dan konsep target. Korespondensi yang ditemukan adalah korespondensi yang ditunjukkan dalam pengalaman yang dialami tubuh, sifat,  fungsi, ciri, dan kekuatan. Abstract

From  the  perspective  of  the  syntactic  behavior  of  wh-questions,  natural languages can be classified into four types: Null Spec Language, Single Filled Spec  Language,  Multiply  Filled  Spec  Language  and  Non-Multiply  Filled Spec Language. Data were collected according to the relevance to the present research  from  each  representative  of  the  four  types  of  languages,  namely, Chinese, English, Bulgarian and Czech. Some of the data in the thesis were taken from the previous literature. Others were from self-introspection. The collected data were analyzed from the point of typology and feature checking. Feature checking in wh-questions of these four types of languages seem to be operated quite differently. Pied-piping of the formal features of the wh-words or  wh-phrases  occur  in  English,  Bulgarian  and  Czech  but  not  in  Chinese. However, feature movement in wh-questions of these four types of languages is universal. This finding proves Chomsky’s biological linguistic belief that language is mainly an optimal solution to conditions it must satisfy.

Abstract

Gender representation in media often portrays stereotypes such as women  representations  constructed  by  culture  and  society  often portraying   women’s code of conduct. Seeing the issue, the study aims  to  reveal    women    representation  in  detergent  packaging designs  and  its  ideology  behind  it.  The  data  collection  is  in  the form  of  visual  images.  Kress  and  van  Leeuwen’s    (2006)  Social Semiotics  theory  on  Reading  Images    is  applied  to  reveal  women representation.  Meanwhile,  ideology  is  investigated  with  Barthes’ signification  order.  The  results  show  that  the  women  are  mostly represented to be feminine, tender, motherly, mature, independent, warm,  loving,  caring,  beautiful,  attractive,  friendly,  and  happy. The ideology constructed is femininity ideology conveyed through several  ways:  mass  media  codes,  fashion,  color  and  non-verbal codes. (118)Representasi  gender  di  media  sering  memotret  sterotype  seperti representasi  wanita  bentukan  oleh  budaya  dan  masyarakat  yang sering  menggambarkan  etiket  kaum  wanita.  Melihat  isu  ini, penelitian    bertujuan  untuk  mengungkap  representasi  wanita  di desain  kemasan  detergen  dan  ideologi  di  baliknya.    Data dikumpulkan dalam bentuk gambar-gambar. Teori Semiotik Sosial tentang  Membaca  Gambar  oleh  Kress  dan  van  Leeuwen  (2006) digunakan  untuk  mengungkap  representasi  wanita.  Sementara, ideologi  dilacak dengan  menggunakan  teori    ‘significance  order  ‘ oleh  Barthes.  Hasil  penelitian  menunjukkan  bahwa  wanita sebagian besar digambarkan sebagai kaum  yang feminin,  lembut, keibuan,  dewasa,  mandiri,  hangat,  penuh  kasih,  peduli,  cantik, menarik,  ramah,  dan  bahagia.  Ideologi  yang  terbentuk  adalah ideologi  feminitas  yang  disasmpaikan  lewat  beberapa  cara:    sandi mass media, sandi warna dan non-verbal.
