Abstract

By the trade and the spread of Islam, Malay language (BM) was introduced. Hatuhaha language (BHT) and Malay language (BM) were used based on their needs. When Portuguese and The Netherlands ruled there, Hatuhaha communities (HA) forced down from the mountain and occupied the coastal areas. The use of Hatuhaha language (BHT) began to be prohibited; especially in the Hulaliu village which have been Christianized. On the contrary, in the four villages which were not Christianized, Hatuhaha language (BHT) was limited use because they did not always have business with the colonial. Furthermore, religious fragmentation occurs gradually, and impacted sosiologically on the development of Hatuhaha language (BHT). This phenomenon is then examined by quantitative and qualitative approaches that utilize the library study method, observation, survey, and interview. The results showed that in addition to the factors of colonization and Christianization, religious practice in Hatuhaha community (HA) has given more significant impact on Hatuhaha language (BHT) shift. It could be shown through correlation test by using Chi-Square on the level of frequency in using Hatuhaha language (BHT) on the domain of family, religious, and custom.

Abstract

Three different types of narrative writings from women who have recently immigrated to Taiwan are discussed here: oral/confessional narrative, textual narrative, and documentary films. The first is the primary kind of narrative writing produced while immigrant women are still struggling with the acquirement of a new language, and relies on help from local people to deliver the new immigrants’ voice. The textual narrative illustrates the mother figures in terms of madness or absence from home; emphasizing the conflict of mother-daughter relationships. The last type of narrative writing produced by newly immigrating women are the documentary films, which are shot by themselves and attempt to demonstrate the bravery of these new immigrant spouses in defending their rights. The results of this paper show that, through the narrative writings, female immigrants from Southeast Asia in Taiwan have produced a variety of issues and topics which create a link of dialogue with Taiwanese society, and which need to be understood. What is more, the process of constructing their new identity is worth discussing as it provides a new perspective on Asian ethnic and women’s writing, and uncovers the need for more research into diasporic women―studied from the approach of displacement.

Abstract

How low class confronts high class people could be shown from conversation exchanges that occur. This study is aimed at analyzing Petruk’s speeches—as low class person in Kethoprak performance, who confronts the high class—King of Astina. The data were analyzed using Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar, dealing with ‘responding speech function’ and ‘typical moods’ in the speech function. Petruk mostly used humilific ‘Ngoko’ style in most of his exchanges with 13 confrontations, 12 supports, and 2 initiations. He also used declarative and interrogative moods to confront. The study proves that Kethoprak is a reflection of low class victory.

Abstract

Teaching reading to early learners is begun with teaching how to identify and pronounce each letter in a word. Therefore, every preschool or primary school has its own technique in teaching pronunciation as the stepping stone to teach reading to its students. KinderStation Preschool (TK Cahaya Bangsa Utama) Yogyakarta is one of the preschools in Yogyakarta that teaches reading to the students using phonics approach, especially analytic phonics. This paper has two objectives. First, it is to describe the application of phonics at KinderStation Preschool. Second, it aims to describe the result of the application of phonics at KinderStation Preschool. To answer those goals, field study is utilized by doing observation and interview. The employment of analytic phonics covers three points; they are the learning materials, the learning media, and the learning process applied in KinderStation Preschool. The application of phonics in teaching reading results on the development of students’ reading fluency. The students have automatic recognition of letters and are able to pronounce words easily and correctly.

Abstract

The bamboo slips of Tao Te Ching is the earliest found version of the ancient Chinese classic philosophical work written by Li Er in the Spring Warring State Era. The merger operation of the wh-questions in the bamboo slips of Tao Te Ching is dealt with in this thesis. External merge of the wh-words is contrasted with the internal merge of wh-words in wh-questions and non-wh-words in topic structures of wh-questions in the bamboo slips of Tao Te Ching. The biologically localized merger is further discussed and proven by the experiment on the aphasic patients of the biscuits stolen story.
