Abstract

This study aims to determine students' responses after implementing biology learning on the pH scale material using the Physics Education Technology (PhET) Simulation. The method used was a survey by distributing questionnaires to 15 Biology Education students at Universitas PGRI Silampari, Lubuklinggau City, South Sumatra Province, who had studied pH scale measurement material using the PhET Simulation. The questionnaire included several indicators: students' interest, benefits, display, and usability of PhET, divided into six statements. The results showed that 86.7% of students strongly agreed that learning using PhET was very interesting, 53.3% of students strongly agreed that PhET motivated and facilitated learning the pH scale, 60% of students strongly agreed that PhET made it easier to understand the pH scale material, and 53.3% of students strongly agreed that the PhET Simulation was easy to understand and its animation design and text met students' needs. In conclusion, the PhET Simulation is very engaging, motivates learning, facilitates material learning, eases material understanding, is easy to use, and its animation design and text align with students' needs. Abstract

This study aims to determine an appropriate raw material forecasting method for UKM Marlianis, a household industry specializing in soybean processing to produce tempeh. Currently, UKM Marlianis adopts a conventional purchasing policy for soybeans without considering sales volumes, leading to overstocking or shortages of raw materials. The research employs a quantitative approach by comparing two forecasting methods: exponential smoothing and trend projection. The alpha (α) value used in the exponential smoothing method is 0.1. The findings reveal that the exponential smoothing method demonstrates lower forecasting errors than the trend projection method, with a Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD) of 374.38, Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 313,445.7, and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 7.1%. Based on these results, inventory cost analysis was conducted using the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) method. In conclusion, the exponential smoothing method with the specified parameters is more effective in forecasting soybean raw material needs, and inventory optimization using the EOQ method supports operational efficiency at UKM Marlianis. Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of compost from kipahit plants and chicken manure as organic material on increasing potato growth and productivity, as well as to find out the best fertilizer among kipahit plant compost, chicken manure, and the combination of kipahit with chicken coop on growth and potato crop productivity. The research method used in this research is a type of experimental research with a design prepared in a Randomized Group Design (RAK). Growth variables are seen from plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, and chlorophyll content. Meanwhile, productivity variables are measured by the number of tubers per plant (seeds), tuber weight per plant, and shoot dry fruit weight. The results of the research showed that there was an effect of providing compost fertilizer on plant growth and productivity (sig < 0.05), with the highest results from measuring the growth and productivity of potato plants for all variables being the application of compost fertilizer from kipahit and chicken manure. In conclusion, there is an influence of compost fertilizer on the growth and productivity of potato plants, with the best fertilizer being a combination of chicken manure and kipahit. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of applying liquid organic fertilizer (POC) derived from a combination of three materials on the growth and yield of radish plants (Raphanus sativus L.). The research utilized a randomized block design (RBD) with five treatment doses, namely TBT0 (control), TBT100 (100 ml/plant), TBT200 (200 ml/plant), TBT300 (300 ml/plant), and TBT400 (400 ml/plant). The results showed that applying POC at a dose of 200 ml/plant (TBT200) produced the highest average number of leaves (29.90 leaves) and the highest radish bulb weight (483.62 grams). However, the application of POC to leaf area, chlorophyll content, and dry leaf weight exhibited a pattern without significant changes among the treatments. Soil nutrient content also decreased as it was utilized by the plants during growth. In conclusion, the application of POC doses made from liquid tofu waste, kipahit (Tithonia diversifolia), and banana stems significantly influenced the number of leaves, fresh leaf weight, and productivity of radish plants. However, POC application did not significantly affect leaf area, chlorophyll content, or dry leaf weight. Keywords: Banana Stem, Kipahit (Tithonia diversifolia), Liquid Tofu Waste, POC, Radish Plants

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the antioxidant content in turmeric leaf extract using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method. The tested concentrations include 200 ppm, 150 ppm, 100 ppm, 50 ppm, 25 ppm, and 12.5 ppm, with absorbance measurements conducted using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. Data were analyzed by calculating the percentage of antioxidant activity based on the absorbance values of each concentration. Subsequently, the IC50 value was determined using a nonlinear regression equation, representing the relationship between the logarithm of concentration and the percentage of antioxidant activity (inhibition). The results of the study showed that the IC50 value of turmeric leaf extract was 61.88. The conclusion of this study indicates that turmeric leaf extract exhibits strong antioxidant activity. Abstract

This study aims to determine the number of individuals, daily behavior, diet types, and feeding methods of Tapanuli orangutans at the Camp Mayang Research Station, Batang Toru, North Sumatra. The method used was focal animal sampling. The results showed that four individual orangutans were identified: Cemara, Beta, Bittang, and Dona. The most dominant daily behavior was feeding behavior, with a percentage of 63.21%. The diet consumed included Agathis borneensis, Freycinetia excelsa, Koompassia excelsa, Lithocarpus rassa, Gironniera subaequalis, Cryptocarya crassinervia, Artocarpus maingayi, Spatholobus parviflorus, and Campnosperma squamatum, with fruit being the main part of the diet (68.04%) due to the frugivorous nature of the species. The most common feeding method was picking (68.02%). This study represents a conservation effort for Tapanuli orangutans, the world's rarest and most endangered orangutan species. Abstract

This study aims to determine the results of GFP (Green Fluorescent Protein) transformation into potential endophytic bacterial isolates K2 and K8 from Klutuk banana (Musa accuminata colla). The method used is exploratory with data analysis conducted qualitatively and descriptively through literature review. The results showed that GFP transformation into potential endophytic bacterial isolates K2 and K8 from Klutuk banana was successful, evidenced by the presence of green fluorescent signals under UV light. This transformation is also beneficial for tracking the colonization of endophytic bacteria within plant tissues. The GFP plasmid pYL101C-sfGFP used has a total size of 6682 bp and contains a gene resistant to Gentamicin (GMC). In conclusion, GFP transformation on potential endophytic bacterial isolates K2 and K8 was successfully carried out and provides significant benefits in tracking endophytic bacterial colonization. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Aloe vera Gel edible coating concentration on the quality of getas merah guava during storage and to identify the optimal concentration for maintaining fruit quality. The method used in this study was a Completely Randomized Block Design (CRBD) with five treatment concentrations of Aloe vera Gel edible coating: K1 (control), K2 (20%), K3 (25%), K4 (30%), and K5 (35%). The measured parameters included fruit moisture content, respiration rate, weight loss, firmness, reducing sugar, and vitamin C content. Measurements were conducted on days 0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 of storage. The results showed that the concentration of Aloe vera Gel edible coating significantly affected fruit moisture content, respiration rate, firmness, reducing sugar, and vitamin C levels in getas merah guava. However, there was no significant effect on fruit weight loss. The 35% Aloe vera Gel edible coating concentration (K5) was the most effective treatment in maintaining the quality of getas merah guava during storage.
