Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning model on the numeracy skills of seventh-grade students at SMPIT An-Nida’ Lubuklinggau. The method used is an experimental approach with a quasi-experimental design. The population consisted of 54 seventh-grade students, divided into two groups: Class VII-2 as the experimental group and Class VII-3 as the control group. Data collection was conducted through observation, tests, and documentation. Data analysis techniques included prerequisite tests (normality test), Wilcoxon test, Mann-Whitney test, and N-Gain test. The results showed that the significance value (sig. 2-tailed) in the Independent Sample Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests was 0.000, which is less than 0.05 (sig. 2-tailed ≤ 0.05). In conclusion, the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) model positively influences the improvement of numeracy skills among seventh-grade students at SMPIT An-Nida’ Lubuklinggau. Keywords: Realistic Mathematics Education (RME), Numeracy Skills

Abstract

This study aims to determine the number of pregnant women at risk of urinary tract infection (UTI) based on urinalysis and urine culture examinations, as well as to identify risk factors associated with UTI. The research method used was an observational experimental study with urine culture and Dipstick test examinations. Urine culture was used as the gold standard with a bacterial count parameter of more than 105 CFU/ml, along with leukocyturia and nitrite detection in urine. The results showed a significant relationship between bacterial count and leukocyturia (p=0.001), but no significant association with the presence of nitrites in urine. Risk factors significantly associated with UTI included education level (p=0.037), frequency of holding urination (p=0.019), water intake (p=0.004), genital hygiene practices (p=0.003), water source (p=0.009), and leukocyte levels (p=0.001). Meanwhile, age, occupation, gestational age, and sexual activity did not show a significant relationship with UTI occurrence. In conclusion, pregnant women need to increase awareness of UTI risks and avoid factors that may contribute to infection to prevent pregnancy complications. Keywords: Urine Culture, Leukocyturia, Nitrite

Abstract

This study aims to minimize waste in the compound fertilizer production process at PT XYZ. The method used is lean manufacturing with the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control (DMAIC) framework. Data collection was carried out during the define and measure phases, while data processing was conducted in the analyze phase using Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and Risk Priority Number (RPN). In the improve phase, corrective actions were determined using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to select the best improvement alternative. The results showed that the root causes of the problem were classified into three types of defects: damaged (leaking) fertilizer sacks, incorrect material usage based on recipe calculations, and fertilizer caking. These product failures were caused by factors related to man, machine, method, and material. The highest RPN value was 224, indicating the most significant risk among the defects. In conclusion, improvements at PT XYZ using the AHP method indicated that machine constraints had the highest priority value of 0.53710, having the greatest impact on waste reduction. Abstract

Fisheries production is predicted to continuously increase every year. However, the development of fishery products may result in ingredient substitution where high- value components are replaced with the lower-economic alternatives. Additionally, mislabelling cases also occur when the claims on packaging do not accurately reflect the actual ingredients contained in the product. The use of DNA mini barcoding using the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene has emerged as an innovative solution in species identification, particularly in fishery products with degraded DNA. This technique utilizes short DNA fragments from marker regions ranging from 100-200 bp. By employing shorter marker size, the amplification and species identification process achieve a success rate of approximately 90-95%. DNA mini barcoding offers several advantages, including higher efficiency, speed, and accuracy in identification process, while also being cost-effective. However, this technique has certain limitations such as challenges in distinguishing genetically similar species and the dependence on the quality of the DNA sample. Despite these constrains, DNA mini barcoding serves an alternative for the authentication process of processed food products that contributing to food safety and conservation efforts.   Keywords: Authentication; Cytochrome C Oxidase Subunit I; Mini-barcodes DNA; Fish Product

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of mining activities on the environment and evaluate the effectiveness of revegetation processes in restoring ecosystem balance in Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau Province. Mining activities carried out by PT. Pertamina Hulu Rokan have caused deforestation due to tree cutting for land clearing, contributing to habitat disruption for flora and fauna, declining water quality, and increasing global warming. The research method includes literature review, field observations, and interviews with relevant stakeholders. The revegetation process consists of three main stages: land preparation, planting implementation, and maintenance. Additionally, plant species used in revegetation are selected based on suitable characteristics such as resistance to sunlight exposure, fast growth with low costs, high litter production that decomposes easily, strong root systems, and the ability to form symbiotic relationships with specific microbes. The results indicate that revegetation using a combination of ground cover plants, primary plants, and companion plants can improve post-mining environmental conditions, increase oxygen availability, and aid in global warming prevention. Thus, revegetation serves as an effective strategy in post-mining ecosystem restoration efforts.   Keywords: Environment, Post-Mining, Global Warming, Revegetation, Plants

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using a website on biodiversity material based on research results on students' conservation literacy skills. The method used is a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design. Students' conservation literacy skills were measured through three indicators: cognitive (using pretest and posttest questions), affective (using an attitude questionnaire), and psychomotor (assessed through a poster assignment). In this study, the experimental class used the EDUKASI website, while the control class used PowerPoint. The results showed that the use of the website had an effect on students' conservation literacy skills. This was evidenced by the hypothesis testing using a t-test at a significance level of 0.05 for each indicator: cognitive (Sig. 0.001), affective (Sig. 0.000), and psychomotor (Sig. 0.000). Thus, H₁ is accepted and H₀ is rejected, indicating that the use of a research-based website influences the conservation literacy skills of seventh-grade junior high school students. Abstract

This study aims to examine the growth aspects of the fourfinger threadfin (Eleutheronema tetradactylum) caught in the waters of the Barumun River, Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra. The research was conducted using a survey method, with fish samples collected from traditional fishermen in Telaga Suka Village using gill nets. The total length of the fish was measured using a ruler with an accuracy of 0.01 mm, and the weight was measured using a digital scale with an accuracy of 0.05 mg. Data analysis included size distribution based on Sturges’ rule and the length-weight relationship using a logarithmic approach. The results showed that the river-caught E. tetradactylum had a relatively even size class distribution ranging from 195–315 cm, while the bubble threadfin exhibited more varied sizes ranging from 138–168 cm. The length-weight relationship for both species indicated a negative allometric growth pattern, with b values of -3.9984 (river threadfin) and -5.5749 (bubble threadfin), indicating that length growth occurs faster than weight gain. In conclusion, E. tetradactylum in the Barumun River shows growth influenced by environmental factors, fishing gear, and anthropogenic activities. The species holds significant economic value for local communities, and thus its management should be directed toward sustainability.
