Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of problem-based learning (PBL) on high school students' environmental literacy by considering socio-scientific factors. The main focus of this research is the environmental literacy of students at SMA Plus Sedayu Nusantara in Medan Marelan District. The method used is a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group and a quantitative approach. The study population consisted of 62 tenth-grade students at SMA Plus Sedayu Nusantara, divided into two groups: the experimental class (X MIA1, 31 students) and the control class (X MIA2, 31 students). Research instruments included multiple-choice tests, essays, and attitude questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using an independent t-test with the SPSS v24 software. The results showed that the average learning outcome of the experimental class increased from 55 to 78 after treatment, while the control group increased from 47 to 57. Descriptive statistical analysis indicated a difference in the average environmental literacy levels between the experimental and control groups. The t-test results confirmed that the average score of the experimental class was significantly higher than that of the control class. In conclusion, problem-based learning (PBL) is effective in improving high school students' environmental literacy by considering socio-scientific factors. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the differences in swimming behavior of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus L) exposed to batik dye industrial wastewater and to identify its effects on fish swimming patterns. The method used was a qualitative approach with experimental observation. The swimming behavior of Nile tilapia was observed in wastewater and control water conditions for 5 minutes, with four repetitions. Water quality parameters, including pH, TDS, TSS, and DO, were also analyzed. The results showed that the wastewater quality did not meet the regulatory standards, with TSS and TDS exceeding the limits and DO below the standard threshold, while pH was within the acceptable range. The swimming patterns of Nile tilapia in wastewater conditions were characterized by higher activity and irregular movements compared to control conditions. In conclusion, batik dye industrial wastewater significantly affects the swimming behavior of Nile tilapia, leading to increased activity and irregular movements. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of drought stress and planting media combinations on the growth of soybean (Glycine max L.). The research method used was a Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of two factors. The first factor was planting media (P0 = 5 kg soil (control)/pot, P1 = 2 kg soil + 2 kg coconut coir (cocopeat) + 1 kg vermicompost/pot, P2 = 2 kg soil + 2 kg rice husk + 1 kg vermicompost/pot, and P3 = 2 kg soil + 1 kg coconut coir (cocopeat) + 1 kg rice husk + 1 kg vermicompost/pot). The second factor was irrigation with four methods (S0 = 100% watering, S1 = 80% watering, S2 = 60% watering, and S3 = 40% watering). The observed parameters included plant height, root length, fresh weight, leaf area, relative growth rate, and net assimilation rate. Data analysis was performed using One-Way ANOVA followed by Duncan’s test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that plant height, leaf area, dry weight, and root length under different planting media indicated that P3 had the highest values, followed by P2. The relative growth rate of soybeans under different planting media showed that P2 was the best, followed by P0, while the net assimilation rate under different planting media showed that P1 had the highest results, followed by P0. The results of plant height, leaf area, dry weight, and root length under drought stress indicated that S0 had the highest values, followed by S1. The relative growth rate of soybeans under drought stress showed that S3 was the best, followed by S2, while the net assimilation rate under drought stress showed that S1 had the highest results. The best treatment combination for plant height, leaf area, root length, and dry weight was P3S0. For relative growth rate, the best combination was P2S3, while for net assimilation rate, the best combination was P1S1. Keywords: Drought Stress, Soybean, Planting Media

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of masculinity depicted in the character of Putri Hijau in the 2024 Ramadan edition of the Marjan advertisement using a qualitative descriptive approach. The theoretical focus of this research is Stuart Hall's Representation theory and Peter Lehman's concept of masculinity, which identifies four elements of masculinity: power, courage, heroism, and leadership. The analytical technique used is Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis, which consists of two stages: denotation and connotation. The results show that the character of Putri Hijau exhibits all four elements of masculinity, as seen in her actions and the properties she uses, such as clothing and swords. Furthermore, the colors used in the advertisement represent various meanings within the ad. Keywords: Representation, Masculinity, Advertisement.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the diversity, evenness, and distribution patterns of ferns as indicators of ecosystem quality and environmental changes. The method used is an exploratory survey with quadrat plots arranged using purposive sampling. Each study site consists of 24 plots measuring 5 x 5 m, positioned opposite each other. The results showed that 44 species of ferns from 20 families were found in both locations. The most frequently found species in the Sicike-cike Lake Nature Tourism Park was Phymatopteris triloba (Hountt) Copel., while in the Serdang village forest, it was Hymenophyllum sp. Canonical correspondence analysis indicated that the presence of ferns in both locations was influenced by temperature, humidity, light intensity, and altitude. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model on students' creative thinking skills in science learning at the junior high school level. The method used in this study is a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. This study involved all seventh-grade students at MTs Negeri 1 Serang, consisting of 10 classes. The research sample was randomly selected, with Class VII A as the experimental group using the Contextual Teaching and Learning model, while Class VII E served as the control group using the Discovery Learning model. Data collection was carried out through creative thinking skill essay tests and non-test observations of students' creative thinking abilities. The test instrument used was validated and tested for reliability. The results showed that the Contextual Teaching and Learning model significantly influenced the improvement of students' creative thinking skills. Although the data distribution was not normal, hypothesis testing using statistical tests indicated significant differences between the pretest and posttest results. Thus, the Contextual Teaching and Learning model can be an effective alternative to enhancing students' creative thinking skills in understanding scientific concepts, particularly concerning environmental pollution issues. Abstract

This study aims to determine blood viscosity in pregnant Wistar strain rats given organic MSG and synthetic MSG with dose treatment. This research is a descriptive quantitative study using an experimental method and a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments with 3 replications each. Groups P1 and P2 were given organic MSG, while groups P4 and P5 were given synthetic MSG. The obtained data were statistically analyzed using One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with SPSS version 20, followed by the DMRT (Duncan’s Multiple Range Test). The results showed that the P1 group with organic MSG had an average blood clotting time of 16.39 minutes, P2 was 14.39 minutes, P4 with synthetic MSG was 7.87 minutes, and P5 was 9.33 minutes. In conclusion, the blood viscosity of pregnant Wistar strain white rats (Rattus norvegicus) after being treated with organic and synthetic MSG shows that the consumption of both types of MSG can reduce blood viscosity levels, as evidenced by the slowing of blood clotting time. Abstract

This study aims to determine the resistance and potential of indigenous bacteria from soil around battery recycling industries in reducing lead (Pb) levels. The method used includes bacterial isolation using NA+Pb(NO₃)₂ 100 ppm medium, followed by characterization tests, resistance tests, and lead reduction potential tests. The results showed that 12 bacterial isolates were able to grow on the selection medium. Based on Gram staining and biochemical tests, eight isolates were identified as Bacillus genus, while the other four belonged to the Pseudomonas genus. Resistance tests revealed that six bacterial isolates exhibited lead resistance and potential for heavy metal reduction. Further testing showed that these six isolates could reduce lead levels by up to 99.99%. Keywords: Bioremediation, Battery, Lead, Indigenous Bacteria

Abstract

This study aims to explore the effect of research-based e-modules on students' conservation literacy skills. The method used is a quasi-experimental approach with a nonequivalent control group design. The study involved two groups: an experimental group using the e-module and a control group without the e-module. The research population consisted of 170 seventh-grade students, with a sample of 62 students determined using the Stovin formula. Class VII D was assigned as the experimental group, while Class VII F served as the control group. Conservation literacy skills were measured using test and non-test instruments. Data analysis was conducted using the Independent Sample T-Test, which resulted in a significance value below 0.05. This indicates that the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was accepted. Therefore, the use of research-based e-modules has a positive impact on improving the conservation literacy skills of seventh-grade students. Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of nocturnal mosquitoes found in the Taman Ciruas Permai residential area. The method used is sweeping, which involves collecting various mosquito species from the study area and subsequently identifying their morphology in the laboratory. The results show that four mosquito species were found in different numbers: Culex fuscochepala (97 individuals, 38.8%), Culex perexiguus (62 individuals, 24.8%), Culex vishnui (8 individuals, 3.2%), and Aedes aegypti (3 individuals, 1.2%). In conclusion, the Culex genus is the most dominant in the study area, while the Aedes genus was found in much smaller numbers. Keywords: identification, morphology, mosquito, Culex, Aedes.
