Abstract

Nowadays, slogans in the public space have become the most significant socialist symbols and meanings that are easily accessible to the public, such as the example of writing traffic signs, billboards, information boards and other media. The problem lies in the lack of attention to the linguistic element, considering that the media contains formal slogans as a reflection of the level of standardization in the interpretation of symbols and meanings aimed at educating the public. These errors are found in a number of public spaces in Pangkalpinang City. This study aimed to describe the linguistic aspects of writing slogans in the public space as well as how to socialize about the delivery of symbols and meanings in the writing. This study also looked at how the purpose of informative education through symbols and meanings of the writing in the socialization media was interpreted by the people of Pangkalpinang. So that there are two formulations of the problem that will be elaborated in this study, namely: (1) How is the distribution of slogans in public spaces indicated to violate linguistic values ?; (2) How is the dissemination of symbols and meanings contained in the slogans conveyed educatively to the public? The theory used to carry out this research is the socio-phonological theory, ambiguity, and sociology of communication from Hebert Mead about symbolic interactionism. The method used was descriptive qualitative using data collection techniques, namely full observation and interviews. This research showed that there are no concepts that are misleading in conveying symbols and meanings contained in slogans in public spaces that should be formally informal because the Pangkalpinang community translates phonemes into orthographical (writing).

Abstract

The charitable endeavors of Muhammadiyah in the Bangka Belitung Region in the field of education from the levels of Elementary Schools, Junior High Schools, and High Schools and Vocational High Schools are spread to all districts/cities. However, the discussion about Muhammadiyah education in Bangka Belitung is very minimal. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. This study took the sample of the oldest and best senior high school as an illustration of Muhammadiyah education management in Bangka Belitung. The results showed that Muhammadiyah Education experienced various obstacles to the threat of closure, however, they were able to rise from adversity. Muhammadiyah Pangkalpinang High School as the oldest school departed from a school that boarded at Muhammadiyah Middle School and later became one of the most popular schools in the era of the 1990s to accommodate students up to 18 classes, but later it fell free and was almost closed due to the lack of students. Several times the change of school principals has not improved, a new hope is obtained when the management of this school is submitted to the STKIP Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung to become its lab school. Now with new facilities and management, the number of students is increasing, slowly but surely this school is starting to improve itself. Meanwhile, Muhammadiyah Toboali High School, South Bangka Regency, which was established in 1994, almost lost public confidence, due to a large number of students who failed the National Examination for the 2006/2007 school year. The situation changed along with Supiandi's leadership, his persistence in managing the school, and finally, the trust in the community returned. Now the number of students has reached nearly 500 students

While inseparable transitive verbs are phrasal verbs that have a direct object but the particles are inseparable from the verb.

This research discusses one of the types of subjects functioning as a theme proposed by Halliday (1985) in the English Declarative Clause which is called the Psychological Subject. Halliday claims the interpretation of Psychological subject into as something which is the concern of the message. It is the first constituent which becomes a ‘subject-matter’ of the clause. The aim of this research is to identify the kinds of the theme found in psychological subjects in the English Declarative Clause and also categories found in psychological subjects functioning as a theme. The method used is a descriptive method and the technique employed is paraphrasing. The descriptive method was used to depict the empirical data discovered in those sources. The study shows that Psychological Subject (PS) functioning as a theme can be filled by words and groups which could be realized by nominal groups (nouns and pronouns), nominal group complexes, adverbial groups or prepositional phrases. Nominal groups (nouns and pronouns) and nominal group complexes can be identified as unmarked themes which are ordinary, expected, and usual form according to Deterding (2001), Gerot and Wignel (1994) identified as the subject of the sentence. Meanwhile, adverbial groups and prepositional phrases could be identified as marked themes because they become the first constituents which perform the point of the departure of the message in the clause.
