This study was conducted to find out the Politeness Principles in EFL classroom interaction. Consisting of six maxims; tact maxim, approbation maxim, generosity maxim, agreement maxim, modesty maxim and sympathy maxim. There were one English teacher and one classroom of eighth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 03 Semarang that became the subject of this study. Indepth, this study was to explore the use of politeness principles of students and teacher in the EFL classroom interaction. A mix method research with the domination of qualitative researchwas chosen as the research design. Classroom observation checklist, documentation, library research, were used as the instruments of the data collection. The result of the study shows that violation of politeness principles has the higher position with the percentage 41% rather than fulfillment with the percentage 31.5%, while other utterance becomes the lowest utterance with 27.5%. The highest maxim fulfilled was generosity with the percentage 38%, and the lowest maxim fulfilled was modesty maxim with 1%.

This research aims to analyze five types of deixis by using theory of Alan Cruse (2000), interpret the reference meaning of deixis and find out the most dominant type of deixis that found in the song lyrics of Ed Sheeran’s album. The researcher elects Divide album as the object of the analysis because it is one of the best-selling album in the world. it consists of such deictic words that has reference meanings. Therefore, the song lyrics can be analyzed using pragmatic approach, specifically about deixis. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data which is used is six songs of Ed Sheeran’s album and then they are classified into the types of deixis based on their own criteria. The findings showed that the types of deixis like person deixis, spatial deixis, temporal deixis, social deixis and discourse deixis are used in the song lyrics of Ed Sheeran’s Album. Based on discussion and finding can be concluded that all deixis are found in all songs, personal deixis is the most being found (46 Deictic words or 28%) the word “I. Me, My, You and Your dominate all songs. in the second position Temporal Deixis is the most being found (43 deictic words or 26%) the word now dominate in all songs. the third position is Spatial deixis (41 Deictic words or 25% ) in the fourth position is Discourse Deixis (20 deictic words or 12%) and in the last position is Social Deixis (15 Deictic words or 9%).

Translation is not only a linguistic transfer and transfer of meaning but also a cultural transfer. Although theoretically equivalence can be attained due to the universal nature of language and cultural convergence but the facts show that a language is used by speakers who often have very different culture from other speakers of language so that in the translation process it is difficult to find a synonymous equivalent especially culturally bound expression. This study tries to identify and describe the phenomena of translating culturally bound expression from Indonesian into English as a result of the translation ideology and strategy exercised by the translator. This is a descriptive translation study focusing on objective aspect of the product using unidirectional parallel bilingual corpora based on text-based theory and translator-based theory. The findings show that based on the study of Indonesian fiction with Balinese culture setting translated into English there is an effort to translate the cultural meaning with the strategy of borrowing.

This research discussed about the influence of picture & picture and three minutes review in English course to students‘ speaking competence for non English department student. By comparing two teaching strategies; theimplementation of picture and picture or three minutes review and conventional teaching method. This research used quantitative approach with experimental method. The population was thestudents of Rusunawa (students‘ dormitory) Unimus Semarang. The sample was the students of class C4 and A2 with the amount of 24 students in each class. The researcher took the sampling based on random sampling, with C4 as the experimental group and A2 as the control group. The research instruments used were the test and questionnaire. The result of the test was ???? ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????? greater than ???? ????????????????????, so the hypothesis was accepted. There was significant difference in students‘ speaking competence between class taught with picture and picture or three minutes review and conventional teaching method that is 8.75. However, it was found that non –English students has various obstruction to join the English Courses. Time availability becomes one of those, because those students come from several backgrounds of study, and the schedule of English courses cannot be managed firmly. The courses were done to make the students getting used to that are why the schedule is made flexible, depend on the students‘ feasibility in joining the course.However, through many activities in the dormitory through the course showed positive foster in learning English, even though those students have different challenges.

Technology has impacted in most of the sectors, including education field. Nowadays, many schools have incorporated technology through the utilization of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) into the learning. The use of platforms such as Google Classroom is one of the ways to fit the best classroom practices. This study reveals the teacher’s perception on the use of Google Classroom as a learning media. The qualitative research design which applies interview method is carried out. Seven high school teachers in Tangerang Selatan, Indonesia, who have actively integrated Google Classroom in their teaching for at least 1 year became the participants. Findings showed that teachers use it as a facilitation tool for managing students’ tasks, organizing classroom and accommodating students’ interaction. In general, teachers perceived the use of Google Classroom was very helpful to conduct their virtual classroom. However, teachers stated that they needed to maximize other features of Google Classroom as they hadn’t explored all which would surely bring benefits for their professional development.

The growth of airlines industry in Indonesia triggers training centers to develop their courses; one of them is their English class. This study looks closer into an EOP course in an Indonesian training center, and reveals some challenges of teaching and learning English for Airlines Staff Candidates. Data are collected through some interviews with teachers and students, also document studies focusing on teaching materials, class activity, and final scoring within a training batch. Both teachers and students have issues which related one another hindering the objectives of teaching and learning that strongly impact the course output. The findings can support teaching evaluation, material development, ideas in teaching methodologies, and need analysis in aviation training.

In this technological era, young learners are exposed to various kinds of technologies. This phenomenon has led young learners interest in learning through technology rather than conventional teaching. Addressing to this context, Nursery Rhymes applications exist to facilitate the wants and necessity to learn in young learners. Nursery rhymes teaches grammar, word order, vocabulary, rythmn and pronunciation altogether. There are claims that young learners have short attention span. Hence, these applications provide tools that attractsyoung learners attention as supporting media for teachers. The sample consists of three young learners from grade 1-2. The result of this preliminary study shows that the students have better attention and willingness to learn English grammar. Undoubtedly, this will also lead to the progress of their grammar use.

Students’ writing interest and ability found in the 4th semester students of English Department in Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) tend to be relatively low. This background becomes the reason of undertaking this study. At this point, students depend on the miracle of paper and pen to create writing piece without considering various technology existed. In another word, the use of technology in writing is quite low or surprisingly hardly ever. In this study, students are acknowledged to an interesting site of writing such as MyStorybook.com as the media to enlarge and stimulate students’ creativity in writing, especially in writing recount text. This study aims at revealing students’ interest and motivation in writing recount text using interactive media. At least 15 students are interviewed and fill questionnaire with open-ended questions to identify their interests and motivation in creating recount text. The result indicates that MyStorybook.com offers invaluable opportunity and new challenge for students to write using some attractive assistance in it. In addition, students’ creativity increases along with their imagination to visualize what kind of story they are trying to create by adding several picture and shape options in order to adorn their writing pieces in recount text.

To face the challenges of 21st century education, schools have to reform their traditional classroom by using online learning to enhance teaching and learning. Blended learning is a mixture of face-to-face learning and online learning. In translation classroom, students may use their ways for translation. They may use electronic device for translation, dictionary, or other ways to gain the desired quality of the translation output. They usually expect their translation would meet at least three quality aspects such as, accurate, natural, and communicative. To gain the quality of translation, students have to make sure that the input of the source language and the process of translation are semantically and structurally correct because it would be hard to translate the sentences which have problems, such as fragments, run-on, and non-parallel. In this paper, the writer would like to share some feedbacks from the students of the Business English Study Program of Politeknik Ubaya Surabaya Indonesia in his translation classroom by reflecting on the student learning experience in Translation. These feedbacks would help guide the students to improve the output of translation. This classroom action research findings would help the teacher encourage the students learn how to translate in better ways. In other words, the teacher would facilitate the students to become smart translators by using reflective ways to raise their awareness to gain the desired output of translation. And passion and practice might also be the key successful factors in translation classroom.

n this paper, the writer tries to analyze a creative response done by Gamel Awan over Alan Walkers Fadedentitled Sepine/Lonely. The purpose of this writing is to investigate how nature is seen and treated by humans. This research uses ecocriticism as the theory and methodology. In responding Alan Walkers song, Gamel Awan recomposed the lyric as well as the music by employing the Javanese language and music arrangement. By defining Faded as lonely, the text poses at least two hypothetical propositionsover nature representationas follows: 1) nature is emplaced as an isolated space; and 2) nature is only functioned as a spoil tip.
