Abstract

This study examines the speech act behavior of Generation Z TikTok users in communication with their parents in Pematang Gajing Village, Simalungun Regency. The increasing use of TikTok among Indonesian Gen Z has encouraged the transfer of slang expressions, body gestures, and facial expressions from digital content into everyday face-to-face interaction, including within family communication. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using in-depth interviews and observation involving six Gen Z informants and six parents as supporting informants. Data were analysed using Austin and Searle’s speech act theory through the dimensions of locution, illocution, and perlocution. The findings reveal three patterns of intergenerational communication dynamics: semantic gaps that trigger conflict, positive adaptation that strengthens relationships, and violations of relational norms that lead to serious tension. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on rural intergenerational communication within a strong traditional cultural setting, showing that the transfer of TikTok-mediated communication styles does not merely create linguistic shifts but also reconfigures family relational norms. This study contributes to pragmatic and sociolinguistic scholarship by demonstrating that parental openness is a key variable in determining whether digital speech patterns produce conflict or relational adaptation in family communication.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of anti-bullying socialization on the social awareness of elementary school students in Sianggunan Village, Batangtoru District, South Tapanuli Regency. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 30 students selected using a purposive sampling technique. The instrument used was a questionnaire to measure students' social awareness. The results showed that the average pretest score of 64.30 increased to 81.75 in the posttest. The results of the paired sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), which means there is a significant effect of anti-bullying socialization on students' social awareness. Thus, anti-bullying socialization is proven effective in increasing students' social awareness, especially in the aspects of empathy, social concern, and attitudes towards bullying behavior.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the interpersonal communication strategies used by perfume consultants to build customer trust at Lab Art Medan. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Three purposively selected informants were selected: the store manager, a perfume consultant, and a customer who had previously participated in a consultation at Lab Art Medan. The results indicate that customer trust is built through a dialogic two-way communication pattern, a personal approach to understanding customer needs, communicative perfume education, and the creation of a comfortable and participatory shopping experience. These strategies enable customers to not only obtain product information but also experience a more personal, relevant, and convincing interaction during the purchasing process. These findings confirm that interpersonal communication functions not merely as a promotional tool but also as a relational mechanism that builds trust and differentiates Lab Art Medan from other, more transaction-oriented perfume stores. Scientifically, this study contributes to enriching the study of interpersonal communication in the context of consultation-based retail services, particularly in the perfume industry, which is heavily influenced by subjective consumer preferences.

Abstract

The flash floods in Sumatra in 2025 not only presented a humanitarian crisis but also demonstrated the strengthening of participatory journalism practices on social media. This study aims to analyze netizens' contributions to disaster journalism through the Instagram account @kitabisacom, while explaining how these contributions are framed into narratives of humanity and digital solidarity. The study uses a constructivist paradigm with a descriptive qualitative approach and Robert N. Entman's framing analysis. Data were obtained from netizens' posts, captions, and comments on content related to the flash floods, then tested through triangulation of sources and theories. The results show that @kitabisacom consistently framed the floods as an urgent humanitarian crisis by highlighting the conditions of victims, volunteer activities, and the urgency of aid. Netizens are not present merely as audiences, but as contributors of information, reinforcers of meaning, and drivers of digital solidarity through comments, message distribution, and donation support. The novelty of this study lies in explaining how the contributions of digital citizens curated by philanthropic platforms shape the construction of collective meaning in disaster journalism on Instagram. These findings confirm that social media functions not only as an information channel, but also as a space for mobilizing empathy and collective action in disaster situations.

Abstract

Recurring flood disasters in Aceh Tamiang Regency have caused significant social and economic losses to the community and require the state to ensure the fulfillment of disaster victims’ rights. Law Number 24 of 2007 concerning Disaster Management regulates the government’s obligation to provide protection, services, and recovery for affected communities. However, in practice there remains a gap between legal norms and their implementation, particularly regarding the guarantee of the rights of flood victims. This study aims to analyze the responsibility of the central government in ensuring the fulfillment of the rights of flood victims in Aceh Tamiang Regency and to examine it from the perspective of siyasah dusturiyah. The research employs a normative legal method with statutory and conceptual approaches, supported by empirical data related to the conditions of communities affected by floods. The findings reveal that the central government holds constitutional responsibility to guarantee protection and recovery for disaster victims, although its implementation still faces challenges related to institutional coordination and aid distribution. From the perspective of siyasah dusturiyah, such responsibility constitutes a mandate of authority that must be carried out based on the principles of justice, public welfare, and protection of society.

Abstract

Tiktok is one of the most popular applications used by all groups and ages, and Indonesia is the country with the most Tiktok users in 2024. Given that Tiktok comes with many updates to information technology, of course there must be changes that occur. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine how the use of the Tiktok Application affects social behavior felt by students. The study makes a comparison between active students and students who have not been affected by the Tiktok Application. The research method was carried out using the Qualitative Method by identifying phenomenology and interviews. The results of this study show that TikTok has a significant and realistic influence on students' social behavior. This change has the most influence on the personal behavior of the students themselves and is also very visible in society. This is in line with the Theory of Technological Determination put forward by McLuhan.

Abstract

This study examines how Bingkai Sumatera on DAAI TV Medan functions as a medium of social and humanitarian education in Medan City. Previous studies on television journalism have largely focused on commercial logic, sensationalism, or information delivery, while limited attention has been given to how local television constructs humanitarian narratives and diffuses social values to urban audiences. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study applies Robert Entman’s framing theory and Everett Rogers’ diffusion of innovations theory. Data were obtained through interviews with the editorial team, audience responses, and documentation of selected broadcasts. The findings show that Bingkai Sumatera frames social issues by emphasizing resilience, dignity, and empowerment rather than victimization. This framing strategy positions marginalized subjects as active social actors and encourages audiences to develop more empathetic and inclusive interpretations. The study also finds that the program works not only as a source of information but also as a channel for diffusing humanitarian values in everyday media consumption. Academically, this research contributes to communication studies by demonstrating how local television can operate as a site of humanistic journalism and social education beyond commercial media logic.
