Abstract

Kongsi kematian as one of the results of Minangkabau society's wisdom has contributed greatly in various aspects of life. Unfortunately, there is still very little in-depth scientific research on kongsi kematian. This study aims to conduct a comprehensive examination of kongsi kematian from the perspective of Islamic economic law. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach with a library research method. The literature was identified, compared, analyzed, and synthesized to answer the research questions. The research results show that the practice of kongsi kematian plays a significant role in economically supporting the Minangkabau community when they experience the misfortune of death. From the perspective of Islamic economic law, it is concluded that the economic practices carried out within the kongsi kematian system meet the requirements of Islamic economic transactions under the wadi’ah category. Starting from the person who entrusts and the person entrusted, the goods that are entrusted, as well as the offer and acceptance, already meet the criteria of Sharia law. Therefore, future researchers are encouraged to conduct more comprehensive studies on the implementation of kongsi kematian on a broader scale.

Abstract

The development of social media has changed the communication and social interaction patterns of adolescents, especially through visual platforms such as Instagram, which allow users to express themselves, build self-image, and gain social recognition from their circle of friends. Instagram not only functions as a medium for entertainment, but also as a digital communication space that influences how adolescents shape their identity and lifestyle. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method conducted on grade IX-1 students of SMP Negeri 9 Kota Tebing Tinggi. Research informants were selected through a purposive sampling technique with the criteria of students actively using Instagram. Data collection was carried out through observation, structured interviews, and documentation of students' Instagram usage activities. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research findings show that Instagram is used by adolescents as a means of social interaction, following trends, and displaying self-identity through uploading photos, videos, and the story feature. Responses in the form of likes and comments also influence self-confidence and how adolescents view themselves in the digital social space. In addition, Instagram use also contributes to shaping adolescents' views on lifestyle, such as how to dress, social activities, and the tendency to follow trends on social media. However, face-to-face communication in the school environment still has an important role in building social relationships between students and in the process of forming adolescent personalities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of Seruni Kopi's digital business content on Instagram as a marketing communication tool and its role in supporting increased sales turnover. This research departs from a gap in previous studies that tended to emphasize the role of social media in brand awareness and general promotion, while analysis of the function of digital content as a marketing communication instrument linked to sales turnover in local coffee MSMEs is still limited. The study used a qualitative approach with content analysis methods, supported by observations of the Instagram account @seruni.kopi, interviews with the business owner, and documentation of digital content. The results indicate that Seruni Kopi's digital content serves three main functions: conveying product information, building business image, and creating interaction with the audience through promotional content, shop atmosphere, and trend-based posts. The main finding of this study is that digital content contributes to a qualitative increase in visits and consumer response, but its effectiveness is not optimal because content management is still spontaneous and not strategically planned. Theoretically, this study emphasizes the importance of digital content as an interactive marketing communication medium for MSMEs. Practically, this study recommends the need for more consistent, varied, and targeted content planning to support optimal sales growth.

Abstract

The development of digital financial technology has driven the emergence of cryptocurrencies, particularly Bitcoin, as a transaction and investment instrument offering ease of cross-border transfers, decentralization, and a high degree of anonymity. However, these characteristics also open up significant opportunities for Bitcoin's misuse as a means of money laundering. In Indonesia, the dual policy of prohibiting the use of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment and recognizing them as a traded commodity creates legal uncertainty and weakens oversight. This study aims to analyze the urgency of monitoring Bitcoin transactions in preventing money laundering based on Indonesian positive law and the perspective of sadd al-dzari'ah. The study uses a normative juridical method with a legislative and conceptual approach. Data sources consist of primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials analyzed qualitatively and descriptively. The results show that weak oversight, the absence of specific criminal sanctions, and the complex nature of crypto asset transactions provide opportunities for criminals to disguise the origins of illicit funds. From the perspective of sadd al-dzari'ah, this situation demands preventive measures to mitigate potential harm early on. Therefore, strengthening regulations, integrating anti-money laundering mechanisms, implementing the precautionary principle for crypto asset traders, and strengthening cooperation between national and international institutions are necessary. This study confirms that Bitcoin transaction oversight is an urgent need to ensure legal certainty, protect the public interest, and maintain the integrity of the national financial system.

Abstract

The development of digital marketing has encouraged the use of Instagram influencers as a marketing communication strategy that not only expands promotional reach but also builds consumer trust in the brand. This study aims to analyze the role, obstacles, and successes of digital influencer marketing in increasing consumer trust in Wardah products in Medan City through the Instagram account @bravebeautymdn. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including interviews, observation, and documentation. The research informants included influencers and consumers who follow the account and have experience accessing Wardah promotional content. The results show that influencers act as communicators, delivering product education, user experiences, and soft-selling-based promotions that build authentic, credible, and relatable perceptions with the audience. Key obstacles include differences in consumer characteristics, the audience's tendency to compare reviews from various sources, and the emergence of negative comments. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on the local context of Medan City and the use of unofficial promotional accounts, thus enriching the study of digital marketing communication based on consumer trust in the halal cosmetics industry.

Abstract

The revocation of the distribution permits for two Pinkflash products by the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) not only triggered a reputational crisis on social media but also revealed how the digital public assesses brand responsibility in regulatory crises related to product safety. This study aims to analyze netizen responses to Pinkflash's clarification and interpret the brand's crisis communication patterns through the perspective of Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT). Academically, this study offers novelty by utilizing netizen comments as the primary data for understanding public acceptance of brand response strategies in the context of a cosmetics crisis triggered by regulatory intervention. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with a qualitative content analysis of Pinkflash's official clarification post and netizen comments on social media. The results show that netizen responses are divided into support, criticism, distrust, and concern over product safety. Clarification and apology are considered important initial steps, but are not sufficient to restore trust. These findings confirm that the effectiveness of digital crisis communication is determined not only by the transparency of the message but also by the consistency of post-crisis corrective actions.

Abstract

The ertutur tradition is an important kinship communication system in the Batak Karo culture because it serves as a marker of social identity and a guideline for interactions between relatives. However, modernization and changes in social patterns have led to a decline in the understanding and practice of ertutur, especially among the younger generation. This study aims to analyze the communication strategies used in preserving the ertutur tradition in the Batak Karo community in Kutalimbaru District. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that the preservation of the ertutur tradition is carried out through interpersonal communication strategies within the family, group communication in traditional activities, and participatory communication through cultural communities. The family acts as the initial agent of inheritance, traditional leaders act as the main director in the practice of ertutur at traditional events, while cultural communities strengthen the transmission of values through collective activities. This study also found that the main obstacles to preserving ertutur lie in the limited understanding of the younger generation, the weakening of traditional inheritance spaces, and the influence of modernization. The novelty of this study lies in explaining the preservation of ertutur as a multi-layered cultural communication process that occurs through families, customs, and local communities.

Abstract

The development of generative artificial intelligence (AI) is beginning to transform news production practices, including in local print media. This study aims to analyze the use of ChatGPT in the news production process at the Mimbar Umum Medan newspaper, while also examining journalists' perceptions of its use and its implications for journalistic professionalism and ethics. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study method through in-depth interviews, observations of editorial workflows, and documentation studies. The research findings indicate that ChatGPT is used limitedly as a technical tool, primarily for generating news ideas, composing initial drafts, refining language, and summarizing supporting documents. The novelty of this study lies in the finding that in the context of local media, the use of ChatGPT has not led to editorial automation, but rather to a pattern of augmented journalism that still places journalists and editors as the primary controllers of editorial decisions. On the one hand, this use improves work efficiency and manuscript readability. On the other hand, there are risks of inaccuracy, information bias, and technological dependency if not accompanied by rigorous verification. Thus, ChatGPT functions more as a supporting instrument than a replacement for human journalistic work.

Abstract

The era of digital disruption has transformed patterns of public communication while simultaneously creating new challenges for information openness, particularly the rise of disinformation, the acceleration of information flows, and growing public demands for fast and accessible services. In this context, the Communication and Informatics Office of North Sumatra Province plays a strategic role as the manager of public communication and the main Information and Documentation Management Officer (PPID) at the provincial level. This study aims to analyze the communication strategy of the North Sumatra Provincial Communication and Informatics Office in improving the Public Information Openness Index (IKIP) in the era of digital disruption. This study employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, using primary data from structural officials and related implementers, as well as secondary data from institutional documents and official sources. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings show that the communication strategy emphasized the digitalization of public information services through an integrated online one-stop system, the strengthening of Open Data Sumut, metadata-based information management, multichannel public communication, and a more human-centered and responsive narrative approach. However, the implementation of this strategy still faces several challenges, including the gap between bureaucratic procedures and digital public expectations, inter-agency consistency, and local political dynamics that affect IKIP achievement. This study concludes that improving public information openness in the digital era requires the integration of technological innovation, legal certainty, and adaptive two-way public communication

Abstract

This research is motivated by the increasing use of Instagram among Generation Z, which not only functions as a medium for communication and entertainment, but also as a digital space for building identity, gaining self-validation, and gaining self-recognition. Different from previous research that tends to emphasize the impact of social media use on users' psychological conditions, this study offers novelty by positioning Generation Z as active, selective, and conscious media users in utilizing Instagram to fulfill their psychological and social needs. This study aims to understand the meaning of Instagram use, motives for seeking self-validation, and forms of self-recognition built through digital interactions. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation of six informants aged 18–25 who actively use Instagram. The results show that Instagram is interpreted as a space for self-expression, personal branding, digital identity formation, as well as a medium for obtaining social responses through likes and comments. Positive responses can increase self-confidence, motivation, and feelings of appreciation, while minimal responses encourage self-evaluation of uploaded content. From the Uses and Gratification perspective, Instagram use is dominated by the need for personal integration and social integration. The scientific contribution of this research lies in strengthening the understanding that the search for self-validation and self-recognition in Generation Z is not merely a passive result of social media use, but rather part of an active process in managing image, identity, and social relations in the digital space.
