Abstract

Background:Among all the blood products, platelets had been reported to have a high rate of outdates due to its unpredictable demand and short shelf life of only 5 days. Researchers have applied techniques of management science and inventory theory to develop a model for inventory management. However, they failed to be implemented due to the variations in the demand and supply and complex computational models.Aims:To analyze the utilization pattern of platelet concentrates and discuss the method of optimal inventory management. Methods:We conducted a prospective observational study on platelet inventory practice at our center from January to December 2014. The number of units to be prepared is decided on daily basis by the transfusion medicine faculty or the resident. The utilization, wastage, expiry and the day’s cover are calculated for the study period. Future requirement is estimated based on the usage in the previous quarter, discard rare, average increase in usage and an additional 1% for managing disasters. Results:During this period a total of 6241 and 5706 units of platelet concentrates were prepared and issued respectively. The wastage rate was 5.1% and expiry rate was 3.5%. The average day’s cover of platelet units at our center was found to be 3 days using average monthly stock available and issued platelets. We observed that holding a stock of 45 units of platelets per day we had a cover for about 3 days for issue. Calculation of future requirement(6309) gave a high prediction when compared to the actual platelets prepared(6241).Conclusions:Understanding and regularly monitoring the inventory, setting up an optimum inventory level, follow of first in first out policy and to have an alternate management plan in times of shortage, like usage of apheresis products are some of the strategies which would benefit in best inventory practices.

Abstract

Abstract- An effectively formulated and properly executed Digital Supply Chain Strategy becomes a value driver for organisations. Modern communications and information technology are changing the nature of terrorism in Indonesia. The use of social media by the Islamic State (IS) is transforming the recruiting and contact mechanisms. This study examined the relationship amid anonymous sharing portal, supply chain management system, recruitment and radical perception with the mediating effect of communication. Islamic State is recruiting Indonesian Muslims to wage jihad (holy war or struggle) in Iraq and Syria through communication networks. IS previously used mainstream social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, to achieve its political ends? After IS‘s social media accounts had been closed down by the authorities, communication shifted to the anonymous sharing portals. This article analyses the nature of IS‘s social media strategy and the impact it has had on radicalization and recruitment in Indonesia. The research method consist of analysing the themes and patterns of IS‘s social media presence. The IS seems to have developed an effective social media strategy given the number of Indonesian members undertaking the hijrah (jihad by emigration) to Syria and Iraq. The paper will answer a question on how the used of social media had effectively increased the members’ salafi-jihadist movement and utopian views of the establishment of a State which implemented Syariah Law.

Abstract

This paper aims to develop a conceptual performance management framework and a theoretical model to determine a suitable performance management framework. The study uses a systematic approach to determine an appropriate performance management framework, which encompasses the process of identifying issues related to performance management, conducting a thorough literature review, identifying gaps through comparing and contrasting the performance management frameworks, identifying theorised constructs, developing a conceptual framework, and building a theoretical model. The results of this study suggest that the proposed conceptual performance management framework applies an input-process-output-outcome model to indicate performance measurement as part of performance management and to describe a complete process of transforming performance measures data into reliable performance information. Five suggested factors to determine a suitable performance management framework have been identified in a developed theoretical model, which include a useful method for modelling a system, management control tool, framework applicability, performance measurement, and practical guidelines for performance management system. This study identifies and suggests five criteria for determining a suitable performance management framework. Other aspects can be included to develop more robust criteria. Theoretical verification needs to be undertaken to examine the conceptual variables of the proposed framework. The developed theoretical model is subject to empirical testing. This study encourages performance management research concerning a thorough process of developing performance management framework and establishing criteria and a model to determine a suitable performance management framework.

Abstract

Abstract— Public policy and associated governmental regulatory issues play critical roles in shaping the practice of supply chain management. This study attempts to examine the role and concept of policy of supply chain network, particularly dialectical model proposed by Marsh Smith (2000) in explaining policy outcomes by taking a case study of communal land policy-making process. This study applies qualitative method and primary data collection techniques of in-depth interviews and document study. This study shows that dialectical model can be applied in explaining the role of policy network on the outcomes of communal land policy in Riau, Indonesia. The outcomes of communal land policy are determined by the dialectical relationship between structure and agency, network and context, network and outcome, as well as problem orientation from policy actors. Inside-government-actors dominate the policy-making process and create a limited network. Therefore, outside-government-actors do not have sufficient access to influence policy outcomes.

Abstract

With the increase of importance for collaboration, intelligence, operational integration with partners in supply chain and inter-organizational partnership, there has been change in the role of supply managers in improving corporate performance. This is reflected in the research related to firms and entrepreneurial settings. The mechanism identified in previous research studies along with the entrepreneurial skills and role of supply management have been explored in this research study. The integration of firm with its suppliers is contributed by entrepreneurial behavior as reflected by the results, which are in line with theoretical framework. This improves the performance of firm. Managers, who aim at improving performance, can achieve high performance through changes in culture and recruitment of management supply function to an entrepreneurial orientation. The implementation of organizational entrepreneurship concept to supply management theory is important. It has been suggested by this research that there is need for further investigation to give a flexible approach for using entrepreneurial constructs to define principles of supply management in the collaboration of buyer and supplier, organizational outcomes and relational capital. Abstract

The goal of this study is to explore the association among supply chain strategy (SCS) and supply chain information systems (SCIS) strategy and also its influence on efficient supply chain and firm performance (FP). Based on information processing theory (IPT), established hypotheses presenting moderating impact of two supply chain information system strategies (SCIS), information system for efficiency and information system for flexibility. These hypotheses are based on the separate relationship among the two SC approaches i.e. Lean and Agile, and SC efficiency and FP. On the basis of data gathered from top management working in procurement, logistics and SC departments of 250 Indonesian firms, for the survey. The gathered data were analysed by using tools like confirmatory analysis and structural equation modelling (SEM), validated our hypotheses. The result shows that IS for efficiency and flexibility, IS strategy strengthen the association among Lean (Agile) SC strategy and SC efficiency. Moreover, there is positively significant association was revealed among SC efficiency and FP and moderating association among SC efficiency on the association among SC strategy and FP was also found. This research offers novel addition in available research by offering theoretical foundation and supportive results that SC efficiency can be enhanced if SC and IS strategies are implemented simultaneously.

Abstract

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) represents the total monetary value of all goods and services produced over a specific time period. This study models the GDP data of the state of Kedah, Malaysia for year 2005-2016. A mathematical model is developed for the state GDP data using Least Square Methods. The future GDP values are predicted using five empirical models: Linear model, Quadratic model, Cubic model, Exponential model and Polynomial model. The result has shown that Exponential model is the best fitted model for Kedah GDP data. The result of the derivative of the obtained model provide marginal analysis that shows the performance of GDP per year for the state. s document gives formatting instructions for authors preparing papers for publication in the said journal.
