The main objective of this study is to verify how social enterprises through recycling cooperatives are developing reverse logistics under the theoretical lenses of economic, social and environmental value creation in Brazil and Poland. For the accomplishment of this research qualitative approach was applied, and the method used was multiple case studies, where more than one object of study was considered, with an exploratory and descriptive nature. During the interviews with the managers of the social enterprises in Brazil and in Poland semi-structured script was used. In order to verify the economic, social and environmental value creation the triple layer business model of Osterwalder and Pigneur (2011) and Joyce and Paquin (2016) was applied. Abstract

Sustainable development goals revolve around three broad elements: cost reduction, productivity enhancement and environmental protection. Seaport industry is inextricably linked to enormous competitions; requiring unceasing improvements to be able to achieve competitive advantages by addressing the relevant sustainable development goals. Dynamic capabilities theory is incorporated in this study to substantiate the relationship between sustainable development goals and sustainable competitive advantages. In addition, dynamic capabilities theory provides a guideline for port management in ascertaining efforts needed to stay relevant in the ever demanding seaport business. Nonetheless, in the process of attaining sustainable development goals, challenges are faced by port management. This study incorporates a qualitative approach, focusing in port Klang particularly on Northport and Westport due to the high volume of cargo handled and being national economic barometers. Interviews were conducted whereby the respondents were managerial personnel in their respective departments. The findings indicate that the challenges in attaining sustainable development goals comprise of technological constraints, financing issues, human capital barriers and supplier associated problems. Addressing these stumbling blocks proves advantageous for port Klang whereby the attainable sustainable development goals is a catapulting factor for ports to achieve sustained competitive advantages in the future.

Abstract

In recent years representatives of various sciences began to pay attention to the problems of legitimacy of power, making them the subject of scientific and political discussions by considering the supply chain strategy. At the same time, geopolitical changes in the world put on the agenda the search for effective ways of transition to democracy, which was the impetus to the development of the concept of "transit society" and its separate direction - "transit justice". Instability, as a characteristic feature of this stage of social development, bring significant attention to the legitimacy of power and its institutions. Indeed, this question largely determines the perspectives for stabilizing society. It becomes relevant in relation to justice and court system that represents it. The legitimization of court acts as a prerequisite for the legitimization of other authorities and democratic processes in the state. In the most widespread definition of institutional confidence is an integral element of legitimacy and supply chain provides the process for its better transparency. In regard to court it implies faith in the fairness of its actions and decisions as well as public recognition of its authority. In this article we studied key questions about the role of confidence in the legitimization of justice in the countries of transitional period. We argued that the level of confidence in justice in society is directly proportional to the level of its civil consciousness. The informational nature of both predetermines the need of using of information methods for building confidence in court as a necessary condition for legitimizing justice in transitional society.

Abstract

Through facilitative efforts by AFTA, the Malaysian government has entered into trade agreements with other ASEAN member states. The current body of literature provides a general understanding of the effects of trade policies on developing nations, but it does not provide specifics, such as how those trade policies affect a given industry or even a specific developing nation. The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of the AFTA trade liberalization policies on Malaysia s automotive industry. A case study was conducted using the triangulation of empirical statistical data collected from secondary sources, an analysis of policy documents, and from qualitative interviews conducted with consumers, automotive industry workers, and experts in the automotive industry or in the realm of policy analysis and trade politics. The Malaysian government entered into trade agreements out of a desire to protect domestic industry, with a focus on protecting the automotive industry. However, these trade agreements have not always worked in Malaysia s favour, and the country has experienced challenges as a result of the trade policies in the region. While economic growth has been high for the past several decades, the automotive industry is still developing, and the country is still classified as a developing nation. Results indicated that consumers had the lowest level of awareness of these policies even though they were some of those that were the highest effected because of the implementation of those policies. Synthesis of data from the analysed interviews indicated that the results of Malaysia s entry into AFTA on the automotive industry have been both deep and far reaching, but that no one group is aware of all of the effects of those trade agreements, or that the trade agreements have resulted in positive changes for the country as a whole. Abstract

The main purpose of the current study is to examine the impact of the investment on the information technology on the supply chain operational performance. Additionally, the study has examined the mediating role of supply chain capabilities namely the relational capability, IT capability and organizational culture is examined in the relationship between information technology and the supply chain operational performance. Meanwhile, research designed for discovering sources of IT productivity paradox are expected to influence and offer implications for Indonesian companies as well as for other developing economies, who strive for creating business value of IT. The data is collected from the Indonesian manufacturing firms and the response rate for survey was obtained as 75.1%. The SEM-PLS is employed in the study to examine the relationship between and among the variables. IT capabilities are identified as critical for enhancing supply chain performance and also one of the major factors of Supply chain management. The significance of IT and SCM are the widely studied areas, and we also found some studies that investigated supply chain capability as a mediator in context to IT influencing supply chain operational performance. SCC have also been identified as the organizational ability to coordinate SC processes, and be responsive against requests of SC partners and consumer needs and share information resources

Abstract

Poor ability to meet growing housing demands are a major problem for Malaysia. Despite the initiatives to move towards the uptake of Industrialized Building System (IBS), it has been hampered by fragmentation issues, a typical picture of traditional mentalities. “Joint Effort”, initiatives have the potential to rescue the current predicament however, the industry hesitance has been a major hindering factor. This paper reports the progress to date of on-going research aimed at developing a validated framework to facilitate “Joint Effort” uptake in Malaysian IBS projects. “Joint Effort”, being among the core component of Supply Chain Management (SCM), is a collaborative endeavor that has the potential to overcome fragmentations. It leans towards the creation of effective teamwork which benefits all parties at both short and long term. Encouraged by a few success cases, there is cautious optimism that it may as well benefit the Malaysian dilemma. This paper considers fragmentation as a major hindrance on IBS uptake, establishes the need to embrace “Joint Effort” initiatives and then elucidates the needs and strategies towards coming out with the final research framework. A combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches will be used and the final outcome will be a framework that proposes beneficial tools to curb the critical barriers to “Joint Effort” uptakes. It is expected that the framework would aid in improving IBS practices thus better able to meet the housing demands.

Abstract

Supply chain management represents a set of interdependent organisations that work closely together to manage the flow of goods or services and information along the value-added chain of products, in order to realise end customer value at the lowest possible costs. Halal Supply Chain performance measures can be developed based on existing measures of the conventional supply chain as long as the primary objective is preserving halal integrity rather than minimising cost or maximising profit. The objective of this paper is to see the effect of halal traceability system towards halal supply chain performance using SEM techniques. Halal Traceability system is a system that enables the identification of products’ and product ingredients’ halal status backward and forward, along the production chain. This article focus will be on the survey method only. The instrument development was based on a literature survey. This study focuses on the population of halal certified food and beverages (FB) manufacturers as disclose in JAKIM Halal Portal. About 254 questionnaire sets answered by the intended respondents out of 500 being distributed and no data are detected as missing. All questions are completely answered by the respondents. This study has confirmed the effect of Halal Traceability system on Halal Supply Chain performance. Having demonstrated the significance of the hypothesised effect with a substantial total variance explained (i.e. above 75 percent) and sufficient predictive relevance, this study provides strong empirical evidence that a high level of Halal Supply Chain performance can be achieved through the effective implementation of Halal Traceability system.
