Abstract

The International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code was adopted in 2004 as a preventive measure to enhance maritime security in ports and on-board ships. The regulation was made compulsory under Chapter XI-2 of the International Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention by International Maritime Organisation (IMO). Since the implementation of the ISPS Code is rather new as compared to other IMO regulations, it is deemed necessary to find out whether employees who work in ports are fully aware and adhere to the requirements of the Code. This research is therefore meant to identify the important determinants to ensure effective implementation of ISPS Code and investigate the level of adherence to ISPS Code implementation amongst Vale Malaysia Minerals (VMM) employees. In this research, the primary data is collected using the Delphi technique. This study concludes that other than those addressed in the literature, two more important factors can be used to determine the implementation of ISPS code and that VMM has been assessed as satisfactorily adhered to the general ISPS Code requirements.

Abstract

Abstract-The primary goal of supply chain management is to meet customer needs through the most efficient use of resources, including the allocation of capacity, inventory and workforce. In theory, the supply chain management seeks to match supply and demand and seeks to do so at minimal cost. And the main indicator of changes in the ratio of supply and demand is the change in the price of products. Trend-seasonal time series models were used to analyze the price behavior in the milk market of the Northern region of Kazakhstan. The use of chain indexes provides models that give more reliable predictions. Calculations based on statistical data on average monthly prices for milk sold by farms of Kostanay region in the period from 2010 to 2018. Seasonal ups and downs in the dynamics of prices for milk were estimated in the model using dummy variables. Validation of the model was carried out as follows: the initial set of data was divided into two subsets – one for estimating the parameters of the equation, the other – for its validation. With use of the data from the first subset, the parameters of the equation were estimated. Then the data from the second subset were inserted into the equation to get predicted values of the response variable. Finally, the predicted values of the indicator were compared with the corresponding known values from the second subset. The degree of deviation of milk prices calculated on the basis of the index model from the actual prices, estimated as the ratio of the standard error to the average actual value of the indicator, doesnot exceed 3%.Price forecasting based on chain indexes falls within the framework of Bayesian approach. The model of chain price indexes can be used by farms for the effective organization of production and sale processes, taking into account the seasonal characteristics in the behavior of the market.

Abstract

Successful supply chain management provides an enterprise with a new competitive advantage. However, successful supply chain performance is based on a high level of trust and strong commitment among supply chain partners. Studies have indicated that communication, partner’s reputation, perceived benefits, fairness, and relationship tenure that are within the context of social exchange theory have an effect on trust. In the current study, we attempted to integrate two types of theories of social exchange and service quality by proposing an integrated model that influences the factor to trust and commitment. We then applied structural equation modeling to test the model. The study results indicated that a hospital’s trust in its supply chain partner is highly associated with commitment. The study included respondents comprising medical device procurement staff working in hospitals within Taiwan. A total of 500 questionnaires were distributed; 316 completed questionnaires were received. The results revealed that communication, partner’s reputation, and perceived benefits had a positive effect on trust. Service quality was also determined to have a positive effect on trust and commitment. This result should provide reference for a hospital and its relationship with suppliers, which helps monitor decision variables in the supply chain management of medical devices.

Abstract

The article explores the history of the development of content and formalization in today's general international law of the norm on the human right to a favorable environment in supply chain. In the study of internationally known UN documents on the protection of the environment (Stockholm Declaration 1972, World Nature Charter 1982, Rio Declaration on Environment and Development 1992, Johannesburg Declaration 2002, etc.) and the analytical reports on this subject (Brundtland Report 1987, the report of Ksentini 1994, the reports of JH Knox presented to the UN Human Rights Council from 2012 to 2017), the authors of the article focused on the development of the process of individualization this right. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of documents adopted by the UN Human Rights Council from 2012 to the present. According to the authors, they allow, first, to give a more precise formulation of this right – as the right to use a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment, and, secondly, to assert the formalization of this right as a universal international legal custom.

Abstract

The supply chain dynamics has been broadly examined and experienced by the academes, industrialists as well as economists. However, still the literature is missing with the effect of economic indicators on supply chain practices, particularly in fishing industry. Therefore, the objective of the current study is to examine the role of economic indicators on supply chain in fishing industry of Indonesia. Fishing industry is one of the industries which is working from many centuries and now growing rapidly and considered to be the important element of economic growth in different countries like Indonesia. Six hypotheses were formulated with the help of previous studies, concerning the relationship between inflation rate, interest rate, human development index (HDI), gross domestic product (GDP) and supply chain. GDP was considered as the mediating variable. Managerial employees of fishing companies were selected as the respondents of this study. Primary data was collected by conducting the questionnaire survey. Total number of one hundred and ninety-six (196) response were received. These responses were analysed with the help of statistical software namely; Partial Least Square (PLS). It was found that economic indicators have influence on supply chain. Increases in inflation rate and interest rate decreases the supply chain. However, increases in HDI enhances the GDP and promote supply chain activities. Additionally, GDP is a mediating variable between HDI and supply chain which positively enhances the supply chain through HDI. Thus, study provides the clues for government to promote supply chain by controlling inflation and interest rate.

Abstract

The aim of the current study is to examine the effect of green supply chain management practices (GSCMP) on the sustainable performance (SP) of the textile industry of Indonesia. For this purpose, data was collected from the supply chain mangers of the textile industry through the questionnaire by using a convenient sampling technique. The Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) has shown that there is positive and significant relationship between the green manufacturing (GM) and SP. In the same vein, it is also found that green design (GD), green distribution (GD), eco-design (ED) and green manufacturing (GM) also have a positive and significant relationship with the SP in the textile industry of Indonesia. These findings indicate that textile industry in Indonesia has a greater importance on the GSCMP to increase the SP. Therefore, it could be explained that GSCMP are considered to be an important predictor to enhance the SP. The findings of the current study could contribute a body of literature in the form of empirical findings which could become a new area of research in future. The research limitations and future directions are also discussed at the end of the study.

Abstract

Enterprises that operate nowadays and want to maintain a competitive advantage on the market, face numerous challenges. Problems of contemporary world, in particular progressive degradation of natural environment, have forced business entities to conduct their operations in a socially responsible manner, in other words, in line with principles of sustainable development. Corporate social responsibility in this field can be defined as overall activities of a company aimed at implementing this concept within the framework of quality policy. Achieving goals and performing tasks related to implementation of the concept of corporate social responsibility, in accordance with continuous improvement of quality effectiveness, can be supported by pro-quality cost accounting. Broadly understood quality management exploits information from accounting system. Quality costing is considered to be the most important element of quality management system. Undoubtedly it plays a major role in establishing a sustainable development policy and related initiatives, as it provides a framework for implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies at all levels of organization's management. The main reason for choosing this kind of research problem was growing importance of information about quality costs in the era of corporate social responsibility, which has been observed recently. Therefore, the aim of framework is to present a nature and significance of quality costing and pro-quality cost accounting in the management of a modern enterprise. To achieve this purpose, it was necessary to use literature analysis of the subject. Assumed objective of the work was achieved through broader description of the concept of sustainable development, discussion of the essence of quality costing, thorough analysis of pro-quality cost accounts as well as presentation of pilot studies on the use of quality costing models and quality cost accounting in enterprises from the SME group existing in Poland. Conducted research allowed to identify existing research gap, which refers to the context of a wider application of quality costing as an integral part of modern strategic management accounting systems.

Abstract

There is a growing market and institutional demands for companies to implement green practices to produce environment friendly products and services. Therefore, more companies are integrating the green practices into their operations, which have increased the market competition. In order to improve their competitiveness in the market, companies are forced to adapt to changing market requirements by implementing practices that could differentiate themselves, such as green supply chain management (GSCM). This study aims to understand the relationship between market competition and GSCM practices among manufacturing companies in Penang and Johor, Malaysia. Data gathered from a survey among the companies were analyzed using descriptive and correlation analysis. The results revealed that the level of market competition in the manufacturing companies’ business environment and the implementation of GSCM practices were relatively moderate. A Spearman’s correlation analysis show that market competition had a moderate positive relationship with all GSCM practices studied, namely green purchasing, product eco-design, cooperation with customers, reverse logistics and internal environmental management. The findings highlight the role of market competition in promoting environment friendly behavior in manufacturing industry. In addition, they also show that more should be done by the industry to improve the sustainability of their supply chain practices.
