Abstract

This study intends to identify the long run relationships between oil price, exchange rates, stock market and interest rate in the context of Malaysia. Weekly data from 1 January 2006 until 22 April 2018 were used. Unit root tests of ADF and PP reveal that all variables are non-stationary at level and become integrated and stationary at first differential series, hence ratify that these variables can be used for further long run investigation. An ARDL bound test and Johansen and Juselius cointegration test suggest the existence of actual long-run relationship between oil price, stock price index, exchange rate and interest rate in Malaysia. Results of Granger causality indicates the presence of unidirectional causality between oil prices and Malaysian stock market running from oil prices to the stock price index. Results also suggest that there is a presence of bi-directional causality between interest rate and oil prices which means causality is running from interest rate to oil prices and from oil prices to the interest rate. Lastly, the results also propose that there is an existence of uni-directional causality between exchange rate and oil prices, running from the exchange rate to the oil prices at 10 percent significance level. Even the results of wavelet coherence approach confirm long run relationships between the underlying variables.

Abstract

The selection of project delivery method is one of the factors that can influence the success of a construction project. Therefore, understanding each of the primary project delivery methods used in construction industry; Design-Bid-Build (DBB), Construction Manager at Risk (CM at Risk) and Design-Build (DB) are important before the decision-making. This paper is a theory based and the objectives are to develop a new definition of project delivery method by synthesizing the existing definitions and to describe the project delivery methods aforementioned. Their advantages, disadvantages and comparison in terms of delivery phase and performance are also presented. There is no project delivery method that appropriate to be used for any construction project therefore, the development of new ideal methods is important to achieve a successful construction project.

Abstract

There is an equivocal claim that Japanese companies are better at managing their supply chains. Yet, little is known about the Japanese supply chain, particularly the food supply chain. Using a qualitative approach, twenty interviews with supply chain managers were conducted. Evidence suggests that a short and simple structure is a platform of the food supply chain and there exists a different level of integration along the chain. There are five main risks attached along the chain and the companies employ various practices to mitigate those risks. Conclusions are presented along with limitations and future research directions.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The objective of this paper is to measure the validity of lean healthcare in the healthcare sector specifically in the Malaysias private hospitals. Validation of content is significantly important to ensure the development of questionnaires is an appropriate to measure the subject. Thus, content validity has been conducted to ensure the adapted instrument from the previous studies by using seven Subject Matter Expert (SME) to validate the instrument. Next, Lawshes method was consumed for the purpose to scale or measure the content validity of each item. From the result, it indicates the result has fulfilled the minimum criteria of Lawshes scale with more than half saying essential, denotes as an E compared to U useful but not essential and N not necessary. In conclusion, although it considered as classical measurement, but the Lawshes method still significant as one of the statistical method in quantitative study to determine the validity of each item.

Abstract

In todays business market, products alone cannot assure vendors success due to the trend of the market where buyers perceived products and services are equally important. To face this current development, vendors are forced to offer added values to their products. Excellent quality of service is one of the options available because it can lead to the buyers satisfaction, and ultimately, loyalty. To date, little is known about the quality of service practices in the Malaysian Automotive Industry. Therefore, the case study was conducted to understand the practices better. It was investigated in the language of the actors in the industry specifically the buyers. In-depth interviews were conducted to explore the quality of service practices which were felt to be crucial to this study. A hermeneutics analysis method was employed in analyzing the data. Results from the case studies indicated that quality of service practices has played significant roles in the Malaysian Automotive Industry. In addition, the practices are consistent with the four main principles in a buyer-vendor relationship within the automotive industry. This is in line with the current market trend.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to determine the factors that can contribute to the production performance in the food industry. This study can help to identify the contributing factors towards the production performance. Five factors were identified based on the past literature. 100 food processing manufacturers with the majority coming from small and medium industries (SME) have been selected. The purposive sampling technique has been selected for this study with the total number of usable questionnaires received being from 80 respondents. The collected data was analysed using SmartPLS 3.0 to test the relationships between the independent variables and the dependent variable of the study. The results showed that the Total Quality Management (TQM), Lean Management (LM), and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP)significantly influenced the production performance. The practical implications of these outcomes are further discussed in the study.

Abstract

The study aims to examine the determinants that motivate passengers to use the Light Rail Transit in The Klang Valley, Malaysia. The factors identified in the study were traffic reduction, advantage of LRT, and attitude. This study used a questionnaire to gather the survey data. The convenience sampling technique was utilised in the study. SmartPLS Version 3 was used to test the hypotheses. The results of the study showed that traffic reduction, advantages of LRT and attitude have a positive influence towards the LRT usage. These significant variables can be used as a guide for the LRT operators to increase the LRT usage. Future research is suggested to include other potential factors that could stimulate more LRT usage and for it to become the preferred mode choice for travelling amongst the users.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence the green practices adoption amongst third party logistics services providers in Penang, Malaysia. The factors used in the study included technology (relative advantages, compatibility, and complexity), organisation (organisational support and quality of human resources), and environment (stakeholder pressure, governmental support, and environmental uncertainty). Purposive sampling has been used as the sampling method in this study. The data gained from the questionnaires have been analysed using SmartPLS 3.0 software. The findings show that relative advantages, compatibility, organisational support, quality of human resources, stakeholder pressure, and governmental support influences the green practices adoption. On the other hand, complexity and environmental uncertainty were found to have insignificant impacts towards the green practices adoption. The outcome of this study demonstrates practical implications for the managers by providing evidence of the critical factors to adopt the green practices amongst the third-party logistics services providers.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the factors that lead to the supply chain safety compliance in Air Cargo in Malaysia. By using the purposive sampling technique, the questionnaires were distributed to the selected respondents for the gathering of data and analysis purposes. It was found that, organisational commitment, employee involvement, and safety training factors have a positive significant influence towards supply chain safety compliance evaluation. Moreover, the safety training factor showed the most significant influence as compared to the others. However, the study found the insignificant relationships between personal protective equipment (PPE) factor with supply chain safety compliance in workplace practices. Workers were lacked awareness on how to comply with safety regulations, especially when it came to wearing safety equipment while handling the movement of material in supply chain processes. This will be a main concern of industry, especially for the Air Cargo Industry, to take more proactive steps in tackling the safety compliance issues occurrences and in achieving the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) best practices in supply chain activities related.

Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between technology and green technology implementation. Besides that, the author also determines the effect of government support as moderator to the relationship between technology and green technology implementation. The respondents for this study are three hundred and eighty-four (384) staff from Malaysian Public Universities in northern region. The primary data (using questionnaire) then were analysed using Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS) by referring to Pearson Correlation, Hierarchical regression and Simple Slope analysis. The finding from Pearson Correlation shows that technology has a positive relationship with green technology implementation. Hierarchical Regression and Simple Slope analysis confirmed that government support moderates the relationship between technology and green technology implementation. Keywords green technology implementation, public university, moderator, hierarchical regression, government support, green supply chain
