Abstract

cyberbullying phenomenon among EFL students interactive communication somehow an exciting topic to discuss. Seeing foreign language speakers interact and communicate with each other on the internet, this is an interesting linguistic study for review. This present library study tries to explore ten high recognized papers from contemporary studies regarding cyberbullying among students’ interactive communication. From these ten studies, this ongoing study constructs its perspective in seeing the cyberbullying context. This study uses a library study in qualitative approach and explores ten contemporary research about cyberbullying and came out with a result of present perspective and currently proposed terminology of cyberbullying among EFL bloggers.

Abstract

The study is find out students’ speaking confidence category, and attitudes category, to find out using of Cooperative Learning Teaching Strategies gives the significant effect on students’ speaking confidence and to find out to what extent the using of Cooperative Learning Teaching Strategies gives the significant effect on students attitudes of the first students of SMK Bina Profesi Pekanbaru. The study of the research is quasi – experimental research where pretest and posttest design are used in this research. The sample of this research is the first students of SMK Bina Profesi Pekanbaru. They are experimental class (X AK) and control class (X UPW) by totaling 37 students. The data were collected by using questionnaire attitudes and speaking confidence test in the conversation. Cooperative Learning Teaching Strategies was used in this research. The result of this research show that 1. There is significant effect on implementing the treatment of Cooperative Learning Teaching Strategies on the students’ speaking confidence for Experiment Group. The t-test result was 30,052, its df was 27, by comparing number of significance. If probability>0,05, null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. If probability<0,05 alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Because the significance was 0,000 < 0,05, Ha was accepted while H0 was rejected. 2. There is significant effect on implementing the treatment of Cooperative Learning Teaching Strategies on students’ attitudes for experiment group. The t-test result was -16,652,its df was 27, by comparing number of significance. Because the significance was 0,00 < 0,05, Ha was accepted while H0 was rejected.

Abstract

This study is a descriptive study which mainly deals with the positions of WH-question words in Amanatun dialect of Meto language. The purposes of this research are to identify the positions of WH-questions words in sentence constructions and propose the best way for teaching English to the Meto background students. Analyzing the data, it used translation instrument by asking them to translate sentences of Indonesia into Amanatun dialect. The findings analyzed by using syntactical analysis show that sa (what) takes the initial and the final that function to ask object (choice), reason subject (condition), and gets one variation, that is, sa to sa’a because of its initial position. sekau taking the middle position, functions to ask for object and possession, and the final position functions to ask for object. esme (where) getting ten (10) variations depending on the subject of the sentences takes the final position to ask for place (location). However, esme gets changes on its form because of the subject of the sentences, dialect and tradition of Meto speakers. Its variations are etme/esme, alme/neome, and nbime, elme/esme, onme/meome, meome, and mbime, alme/onme, neome and etme/esme/alme. leka (when) just gets one variation, that is, lek‟at. It happens because the subject is between lek’at and verb mnao (go) while lek‟at takes the front position. Nansa (why) gets some variations, such as nansa, neosa, nak’onme, and ’moe’na’ onme. It takes the initial and final position and functions to ask questions about reason. Onme (how) functions to ask about manner, condition and opinion. Fauk (How many/how much) asks questions about many, much and old.

Abstract

Most of Indonesian vocabularies now are derived from other languages such as from English. The phenomena caused by many new foreign words that used in Indonesia. It is called loanword. It means that a word from one language adapted into another language. This research was aimed to analyze and describe the types of English loanwords written in Riau Pos daily newspaper; simple word, complex word, and translated word. The research was descriptive design. The source of data in this research was article of Opini, Ekonomi-bisnis, and Politik that published on April 9th, 19th, 20th, 23rd 2016 in Riau Pos daily newpaper. The result of the research showed that there were 217 English loan word that used in Riau Pos daily newspaper. Complex word was the most frequently used which there were 122 of complex word, then there were 82 simple word used in Riau Pos daily newspaper, meanwhile translated word was the least frequently which there were 13 of translated word used in Riau pos daily newspaper. In conclusion it can contribute to linguistics fields and Indonesian language itself.

Abstract

The objective of research was to know whether there was any influnces of using photographs in descriptive writing to the students of nursing. In fact, many nurse students still find difficulties in writing. They still find difficulties in expressing what they want to write and how to write. In overcoming those problems, in certain condition to interest them, teacher can use many media to help them producing good written. One of the media is the using of photograph in teaching learning writing. Photograph can make students find ideas in writing and it can help them to make descriptive text when they look the picture. The population was taken from the nurse students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Pringsewu. The writer took two classes for experiment and control. The data collecting technique used the writing test. The teacher gave some topics and the students had to make composition by choosing one of the topic. The analyzing the data, the writer used ttest. After calculated the data, the writer found that was use photographs was x 2ratio = 6.01, and that was without use photographs was x2ratio = 3.93. It can conclude there was any influence of using photographs in descriptive writing to the students of nursing. The writer suggested to English teacher should be use photographs as a media in teaching writing.

Abstract

Abstract: The objectives of this study were to find out : (1) the significant improvement on the first semester students’ reading comprehension before and after being taught using PQRST technique at STIK Siti Khadijah Palembang, South Sumatera, Indonesia; and (2) the significant difference on students’ reading comprehension between the students who were taught by using PQRST technique and those who were not. The population of this research was all the first semester students of STIK Siti Khadijah Palembang which consist of 32 students in academic year 2019/2020. The sample of this research was taken by using total sampling. Thus, the total number of the sample was 32 students. The sample was the first semester students at Nursing Study Program (experimental group) which consist of 32 students and the third semester students at D.III Nursing Study Program (control group) which consist of 32 students. The test was given twice to both experimental and control group. True experimental design was used to analyzed the data. To verify the hypotheses, the data used post-test design to analyzed by using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test was 0.005 which was lower than 0.05.The result of this research showed that Reading Comprehension by using PQRST technique gave significant improvement on the students’ reading comprehension and gave significant difference between students’ who were taught by PQRST technique and those who were not. Abstract

In improving students' English competence, Bengkalis State Polytechnic holds TOEIC Institutional training for students who have obtained TOEIC scores above 400 for diploma three and 450 for diploma four. Students must have a good English certificate in order to continue their studies, scholarships and apply for work. This study was conducted to determine whether there are differences in TOEIC scores in Institutional TOEIC Training for students between classes A, B and C. Data analysis was done by Anova using SPSS version 22. The population in this study was 60 students. The results of this study indicate that student learning outcomes or TOEIC scores in the Institutional TOEIC Training between class A, class B and class C are significantly different.

Abstract

Various kinds of technology tools and media can be used to facilitate the leaching and learning English in this era. One of them is digital storytelling. It is a multimedia text including images, audio, or video accompanied by a narrated soundtrack to tell a story or give information. It combines the functions of visual, verbal, and audio those are important for language comprehension and skills. This present study aimed at investigating the students` opinions on the use of digital storytelling in EFL classroom. The questionnaire and interview were distributed to 31 participants as the main data. The results indicated that 84% students like learning English through digital storytelling, 81% of them enjoy presenting and sharing their digital literacy, and 77% of them argue that digital storytelling can motivate them to read a lot. It can be derived that digital storytelling makes the students participate actively during the learning process, allows the students to work collaboratively, and provide the students to be digitally literate.

Abstract

Speaking skill is the skill that give us the ability to communicate effectively. The objective of the study were: (1) to find out the difficulties in reporting procedure text, (2) to find out the reason why do the students feel difficulties in reporting the procedure text, (3) to analysis why the difficulties occur at the studentsspeaking in reporting a procedure text.The population was all of the students first grade X-IPA of SMA Methodist 7 Medan 2019/2020 academic year. The sample of this research was the first grade X IPA consist 29 students in the class. The purpose of this study was to determine student knowledge in the text of the reporting procedure to determine student difficulties in the text of the reporting procedure. This researchers used qualitative method to know and examine the difficulties that occur and strive to resolve existing problems in speaking. From the results of research that has been conducted research, researchers found several that are classified through analysis, namly related to students difficulty in speaking, lack of vocabulary used, lack of pronouncation, and lack of knowledge about listening. And researchers used five aspects in giving scored namly Fluency, pronouncation, Accuracy, Clarity, and Performance skill.The researchers concluded in the other words that there was a significant analysis of students difficulties in reporting procedure text. It is suggested that English Teachers must practicing they speaking skill.

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out the students’ vocabulary ability in finding verb through song lyrics. And this study have done in SMP MARISI Medan. Speaking is one of the language skills in English. That’s why mastery vocabulary is needed by every people. Vocabulary is a set of similar words within a person’s language. A vocabulary, usually developed with age, serves as as useful and fundamental tool for communication and acquiring knowledge. Teaching vocabulary through song is not only sing or reading lyric of song and fun so that is make the students passive but also process of teaching these vocabulary to be applied in activities in a form of communication. The result of analysis showed that finding verb through song lyrics answered by students’. The students’ who got excellent is 18 (60%), the students’ who got good is 10 (33,3%) . so after the writer got there are score, the writer concluded that students’ who got excellent and good categorized able. The students’ who got categorized Bad2 (6,6%) students’. So, after the writer got there are score, the writer conclude that students’ who got enough and bad categorized unable in finding verb. The researcher hopes that the students’ should be active in learning especially on vocabulary . because vocabulary is one of important skills in learning English. The students’ must develop their vocabulary so they can speak well in English. Moreover, the students’ may get more knowledge to improve their vocabulary in English.
