Abstract

General elections are a crucial moment in the life of the nation and state. This moment is used by political figures to build positive perceptions through political advertising. Political advertising has the main function as a strategic communication tool in the democratic process. This research aims to uncover the meaning and communication strategies used in Prabowo Gibran's political advertisements during the 2024 Presidential Election. The focus of this research is to decipher the symbolic meaning and messages contained in political advertisements using Charles Sanders Pierce's semiotic theory as a basis for exploring the signs- signs that appear in these political advertisements. By referring to Charles Sanders Pierce's semiotic theory, this research tries to identify and analyze the signs that appear in the Prabowo Gibran couple's political advertisements, both visual and verbal. Charles Sanders Pierce's semiotic analysis carried out by outlining three important components, namely Sign, Object, Interpretant, shows that political advertisements have a distinctive communication style as part of their political communication strategy. Semiotic analysis also places this advertisement in the positive category, indicating that the message conveyed is able to create meaning that supports the positive image of the couple.

Abstract

The digital age poses great challenges to traditional media institutions, including the radio industry. This research aims to examine the application of convergence by private radio institutions, particularly Radio Ardan, to navigate this dynamic landscape. Adaptation is key in facing fierce competition in the digital media landscape for survival and achievement of media goals. Radio Ardan, considering the number of listeners, the ranking of private radio stations in Bandung City, and its business strategy, is the center of attention of this research. The internet accelerates cultural shifts in media consumption, facilitates access to audio-visual information, and encourages the growth of alternative mass media platforms, significantly changing the traditional radio landscape. The resulting convergence model can serve as a guide for other private radio stations in Bandung City, helping them adapt to the challenges of the digital era and meet changing consumer preferences. Convergence involves the integration of traditional radio broadcasting with digital platforms such as online streaming, podcasts, social media engagement and mobile apps. By utilizing these various channels, radio stations can expand their reach, engage with audiences in new ways, and stay relevant amidst growing media competition. Through research and analysis of Radio Ardan's convergence efforts, it is hoped that it can provide useful insights and recommendations for other private radio institutions. By understanding and implementing effective convergence strategies, radio stations can increase competitiveness, maintain listener engagement, and secure their position in the ever-evolving media landscape in Bandung City and its surroundings. Adaptation and innovation are the keys to success in the face of these changes, while collaboration with digital platforms opens up new opportunities for the radio industry to spread its wings and continue to survive in the digital era.

Abstract

This research aims to measure the impact of implementing the Manak Mandiri Man Alam (Mamalam) Agro-tourism Program, which is a CSR initiative from PT ANTAM Tbk UBPB West Kalimantan. This program is designed to provide social responsibility to society and the environment through the integration of agricultural activities with education and tourism. The analysis was carried out using the Social Return on Investment (SROI) method to evaluate the resulting social, economic and environmental impacts. In this research, primary and secondary data were collected to evaluate program input, output and outcomes and quantify the resulting social value. The results of the SROI calculation show a ratio of 2.32, which means that every Rp. 1 invested by ANTAM in this program produces Rp. 2.32 in economic, social and environmental benefits. This SROI value confirms that the various activities that have been carried out have been well planned, targeting the right targets, and the targets to be achieved are linear with the planned activities. These findings demonstrate the success of the program in providing a significant positive impact on society. Apart from that, the results of this research also provide a valuable reference for the development of similar programs and strategic decision making for stakeholders, strengthening the argument for continuing to support initiatives oriented towards community empowerment and environmental preservation.

Abstract

The focus of this study is on how Lion Air managed crisis communication following the Boeing 737 MAX 8 crash of Flight JT-610. The research delves into the use of storytelling in media statements as a strategy for crisis communication during the aftermath of the crash. It outlines Lion Air's goals in sharing information and engaging with the public and media in the midst of this crisis. The study utilizes a qualitative text analysis to scrutinize three specific media statements released during the crisis. By applying Michael L. Kent's storytelling elements, the analysis of the media statements concentrates on factors like emplotment, narrative theory, identification, form, and masterplots. The selected statements cover the immediate aftermath of the crash on October 29, 2018; a subsequent statement on March 13, 2019, addressing broader safety concerns surrounding the Boeing 737 MAX 8; and a final statement on October 26, 2019, summarizing findings from the National Transportation Safety Committee's investigation. The research findings suggest that employing storytelling through straightforward text in media statements, incorporating credible character depiction, structured narrative, empathy, and compelling storytelling, can notably influence an organization's reputation recovery and improvement. Well-crafted and timely media releases are essential as primary information sources for the media, especially in crisis scenarios where prompt and precise information dissemination is critical. This method ensures that information, though disseminated quickly, maintains relevant and impactful storytelling aspects. The study concludes that storytelling, characterized by humanistic, empathetic, and coherent narratives across media statements, can be effectively utilized by Lion Air to uphold consistent and narrative-focused communication with the public through the media.
