Abstract

Scientific communication and dissemination of knowledge have been done for a long time. This paper will discuss the role and efforts of college libraries in building institutions that provide information and as a tool for scientific communication, as well as in managing institutional repository collections that change communication media. The purpose of this study is to find out and provide options for services available in college libraries, especially in the Djuanda University Library. Scientific communication is communication that occurs between scientists in certain fields, such as notification, transfer, dissemination, and dissemination of information in the form of books and other types of information. College libraries are one of the media for scientific communication for educational institutions, research, and publishing. This scientific communication can be built through communication between librarians and users, lecturers, students, and experts. And these findings indicate that research on the media used by libraries for scientific communication must continue to be carried out. Abstract

The acceleration of global climate change accompanied by increased economic activity and human development, which tends to be exploitative of nature, such as deforestation, urbanization, and water, air, and land pollution, has caused an increase in the frequency, intensity, and impact of hydrometeorological disasters in Indonesia. The island of Bali, which has long been known for its natural beauty and cultural heritage, is also increasingly vulnerable to hydrometeorological natural disasters such as floods, droughts, and landslides. Based on disaster studies, hydrometeorological disasters are one of the most frequent disasters in Bali Province. This research aims to analyze risk communication for hydrometeorological disaster mitigation in Bali with the Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) concept. The results are expected to provide new insights to the community and policymakers regarding risk and crisis communication strategies in disaster mitigation efforts. The method used in this research is qualitative, with a case study approach and data collection techniques through in-depth interviews and observation. Research location is in Bali Province, involving stakeholders such as the government institutions, professional associations, journalists, and business actors concerned about and involved in the disaster mitigation agenda in Bali Province. The research results show that collaboration between traditional elements, such as traditional leaders, religious leaders, and the government is important in increasing awareness and disaster mitigation capacity. Applying CERC principles has proven effective in strengthening community capacity and accelerating post-disaster recovery. The findings of this research show that inclusive risk communication based on local wisdom is the key to building community preparedness in anticipating and mitigating disasters.

Abstract

Public service is the responsibility that the government must carry out to meet the needs of community services. One form of fulfilling the needs of public services carried out by the government is to innovate services through the Public Service Mall (MPP). The implementations of this program is carried out by the East Lombok Regency Government which already has an MPP and has been implemented to carry out services for the community. This study aims to analyze the quality of MPP services in East Lombok Regency in supporting innovative governance and openness of information to provide maximum service to the community. This study uses a descriptive quantitative method with a purposive sampling technique and sample calculations using the Slovin formula. The calculation of the results of the respondent's calculations using WMS with a variable focus based on the theory of service quality Zeithaml, Parasuarman & Berry and the Smart City Theory Smart City (Giffinger et al. 2007) with the dimension of innovative governance in supporting openness of information. From the results of the recapitulation of the assessment of the quality of service and the implementation of innovative governance, the calculation results were 3.89 with a suitable category; this shows that the quality of MPP services in East Lombok Regency has been running well and supports openness of information for the public. But in its implementation there must always be an increase in services so that the existence of MPP can provide maximum service to the public and realize innovative governance towards a smart city in East Lombok Regency.

Abstract

Urban farming is an activity that is currently widely carried out by people in urban areas. This is due to the limited agricultural land in urban areas. So that urban farming becomes an alternative for people in urban areas to carry out agricultural activities. Agricultural activities are usually identical to work done by men, but in urban farming, women can also do it. This is because urban farming can be carried out flexibly around people's homes by utilizing land or yards that are limited in size and can use other alternative media to be a container for carrying out urban farming. In the current era of digitalization, all human activities cannot be separated from the use of communication media. In carrying out urban farming, women farmers need media to communicate and sources of information that are considered accurate and reliable to support their urban farming activities. This research aims to identify the characteristics of women farmers, the use of communication media and information sources in implementing urban farming in Pekanbaru City. The research method used is a survey method. The research approach was carried out with an ex post facto analysis design. Data analysis used to answer all research objectives is descriptive from the results of the Likert scale. The results of the research show that activeness in groups is a characteristic that is generally possessed by women farmers. The use of communication media and information sources by women farmers in implementing urban farming is classified in the very good category with a score of 4.39. The highest score is on the media indicator used in communication. This shows that the use of communication media and information sources among women farmers in Pekanbaru City is good.

Abstract

The media industry in Indonesia is experiencing rapid growth, along with an increasing number of audiences from various groups, including children and parents. Children, as part of the audience, have different characteristics from other age groups. Providing child-friendly media is crucial. This study aims to examine the perceptions and views of media activists and parents regarding the existence and quality of child-friendly media in Indonesia. The method used in this study was a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews with eight respondents, consisting of four media activists and four parents. Data analysis was conducted using the perspective of George Gerbner's Uses and Gratification Theory, as well as the Media Regulation theory of Sonia Livingstone and Peter Lunt. The results show that both media activists and parents believe that child-friendly media in Indonesia is currently still not optimal in meeting children's needs and interests. Available content is considered limited, less relevant to current developments, and does not fully support educational aspects or healthy entertainment for children. These findings emphasize the importance of collaboration between the media, government, and society to create stricter regulations and encourage the production of higher-quality content that is appropriate to the needs of children in today's digital era.

Abstract

Globalization and advances in communication technology have driven profound socio-cultural changes by intensifying cross-cultural interactions within digital spaces, to the point of blurring geographical boundaries. One clear manifestation of these changes is the growing prevalence of mixed or transnational marriages. Social media plays a pivotal role in constructing narratives of cross-cultural romance, yet it simultaneously provides a platform for social stigma and cyberattacks, particularly targeting Indonesian female content creators in mixed marriages. This study seeks to examine the various forms of stigma and online harassment they encounter, employing a netnographic observational approach, literature review, and theoretical frameworks drawn from symbolic interactionism, critical discourse analysis, and agenda-setting theory. The findings reveal that these female content creators frequently become targets of gender-based hate speech, nationalistic stereotypes, and recurring, organized racist attacks. Such patterns reflect the persistence of cultural and patriarchal biases that have migrated into digital spaces. Inadequate systemic support forces these women to rely on individual self-protection strategies. Consequently, this study highlighted the need to promote digital literacy, foster social empathy, and strengthen legal protections to build a safer and more equitable digital environment for women in mixed marriages, who hold significant potential to serve as bridges for inclusive cultural exchange.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the disaster mitigation communication steps implemented by the Citeko Meteorological Station of BMKG through the "BMKG Goes To School" program targeted at elementary school students in disaster-prone areas. The research employed a qualitative case study approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participant observations, and document analysis, and processed using the atlas.ti version 9 software. The findings reveal that the implementation of disaster communication follows five key strategic steps: (1) Situational awareness is achieved by utilizing local disaster risk maps and weather forecasts; (2) Customer focus is applied by tailoring messages to children's cognitive levels using simple language, visuals, animations, and thematic songs; (3) Leadership commitment is shown through the active involvement of the station head in both planning and implementation; (4) Inclusion of communication in planning and operations is reflected in the assignment of a trained team and the execution of earthquake simulation drills; and (5) Media partnership has limited impact due to the primary audience’s low access to digital media. The study recommends incorporating training for teachers and establishing a structured evaluation framework to enhance the program's communication effectiveness.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of Assemblr Edu, an augmented reality (AR) application, as a digital communication medium for enhancing elementary students’ conceptual understanding of science. The research was conducted with 22 fifth-grade students at SDN Ciapus 05, Bogor, using a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. Data were collected through tests, observations, and documentation to capture both quantitative outcomes and qualitative responses. The pretest results revealed an average score of 48.5, with only 27% of students reaching the minimum mastery criterion. Following the AR-based treatment, the posttest average increased significantly to 78.2, with 86% of students surpassing the criterion. The normalized gain (N-Gain) score of 0.52 indicated a medium category improvement, confirming the measurable impact of AR on learning performance. Beyond numerical gains, students demonstrated enthusiasm, curiosity, and active participation in group discussions while exploring three-dimensional models of the human ear. These findings validate the relevance of multimedia learning principles and the Cognitive-Affective Model of Immersive Learning, which emphasize the synergy of visual-verbal channels and the motivational role of immersive media. In conclusion, Assemblr Edu contributes positively not only to science education but also to the broader field of digital communication and media by bridging abstract concepts into tangible experiences. This research offers theoretical reinforcement for interactive communication models and practical recommendations for educators and communication practitioners seeking to integrate AR into diverse learning and public communication contexts.

Abstract

Visual beauty in video content is one of the main factors that determine the attractiveness and success of a work on digital platforms, including YouTube. This study focuses on video content produced by Ria SW, a creator known for his culinary and travel videos, and how subscribers in Bogor interpret the visual beauty displayed. The purpose of the study was to explore the audience's perception of the visual elements present in the video Ria SW and join in building a pleasant viewing experience. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, direct observation on video content, as well as the study of relevant literature. The results showed that the visual beauty presented through balanced image composition, aesthetic color selection, appropriate lighting, and presentation of food that uploads tastes, became the most prominent aspects in building the attractiveness of the content. The Visual not only adds to the comfort and satisfaction of watching, but also serves to strengthen the message of information to be conveyed Ria SW. In addition, customers in Bogor city feel an emotional closeness with Ria SW through warm, natural, and authentic visual nuances. This shows that the visual aspect does not just act as a complement, but becomes an important part in building emotional interactions between creators and audiences. Overall, this study confirms that visual beauty in YouTube video content has a significant contribution in improving the viewing experience, strengthening the appeal of information, and creating an immersive emotional atmosphere for customers.
