Abstract

A zoo is a place to live or collect wild animals outside their natural habitat which can be controlled by the government or non-government, and functions as a breeding ground so that natural genetics is maintained. Apart from being a place of conservation, it is also a place of education and a place of recreation. The problem with zoos in Indonesia is that their management is not by the principles of animal welfare. This study aims to summarize the results of the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by collecting reference articles related to the keyword "Implementation of Zoo Management Strategies based on Animal Welfare Standards". Management efforts must pay attention to the survival of animals by the principles of animal welfare, namely freedom from hunger and thirst; free from pain, injury, and disease; free from environmental discomfort, abuse, and violence; freedom from fear and depression; and free in expressing natural behavior. Pay attention to zoo management, both animals and officers or keepers according to their expertise. Strategy implementation using SWOT analysis, namely analysis that obtains useful strategies to implement or recommendations based on results that can maximize Strengths and Opportunities, by minimizing Weaknesses and avoiding Threats.

Abstract

Obesity is a major risk factor for several chronic diseases and is a major health and economic burden on society. The FTO gene (Fat and Mass Obesity associated) was identified as a gene that has an influence on the incidence of obesity according to Genome-wide Association Studies. Examination of the FTO gene polymorphism rs9939609 using 15 samples of obese subjects and 15 samples of non-obese subjects at Prodia Pusat Jakarta employees. This study used descriptive research to describe the polymorphism or variation of the FTO (Fat mass and obesity-associated) gene rs9939609 in obese and non-obese objects among Prodia Pusat Jakarta employees. In this study, non-obese subjects obtained 100% AT allele results. This indicates that genetically there is a potential risk factor for obesity. In obese subjects, 60% of the TT alleles were found. Genetically it should not be a risk allele for the risk of obesity. This can be caused by lifestyle or diet. In this study, an AA allele of 6.67% was found, indicating a greater risk of obesity. From the study, it was concluded that the percentage of the FTO gene polymorphism rs9939609 in obese and non-obese subjects in Prodia Pusat Jakarta employees was the AT allele 100% for obese subjects and for obese subjects. non-obese subject of 33.33%. The AA allele is 6.67% for obese subjects, and the TT allele is 60% for obese subjects.

Abstract

Wax apple Delima and Citra Cultivars are two superior non-climacteric tropical fruit commodities from Demak Regency which have similar morphological characters but have different fruit characteristics. Identification wax apple cultivars from Demak regency using DNA barcoding approach has not been researched yet.  The aims of this research are to analyze the morphological similarities of wax apple between Delima and Citra cultivars and to identify genetic variations of wax apple Delima and Citra using trnL-trnF intergenic spacer for molecularly authentication. The results shown that there were no differences in the environmental parameters of the wax apple two cultivated area in Demak Regency. According to the morphological approach, the Delima and Citra cultivars in Demak Regency were grouped separately into Delima and Citra clusters with a similarity index of 61.5% (Citra cultivars) and 60.5% (Delima cultivars) and separated based on the origin of their cultivation area. Genetic variations between wax apple Delima and Citra in Demak Regency consisted of deletions (9delA 17delA) and conserved P6 loop in all compared cultivars. The possibility of heteroplasmy R (A,G) found at 73 nucleotide number in Delima Betokan cultivar and Citra cultivars (Betokan and Jungpasir). Meanwhile, Delima Jungpasir cultivar is K (G,T). There were P8 stem-loops with different lengths between Delima cultivars (Betokan and Jungpasir) and the same length in Citra cultivars (Betokan and Jungpasir). Therefore, the trnL-trnF intergenic spacer has not been thoroughly used in wax apple Delima and Citra authentication due to the presence of a secondary structure which causes the loss of the electropherogram signal so that the nucleotide sequence cannot be read.
