Abstract

This development research produced an interactive learning media based on Articulate Storyline 3 for the social arithmetic material of seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Percut Sei Tuan using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The results showed that the media was very valid with a percentage of 92% from material and media experts, and very practical based on teacher (100%) and student (97.13%) responses. In addition, this media was proven to be effective in improving students' mathematical problem-solving abilities as indicated by an N-Gain value of 0.73 (high category) through an increase in the average score from 35.22 in the pre-test to 65.26 in the post-test. This media was considered easy to operate, interesting, interactive, and able to motivate students to be active in learning so that it could improve students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. Thus, the Articulate Storyline 3 media on social arithmetic material was proven to be valid, practical, and effective in supporting the improvement of mathematical problem-solving, and could be an innovative alternative in improving the quality of enjoyable mathematics learning according to the demands of the 21st century. Abstract

This study aims to describe errors in the construction of mathematical concepts related to exponents in light of mathematics anxiety. This study employs a qualitative approach with two subjects, students with low and high levels of mathematics anxiety. Data analysis uses an iterative model consisting of data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that students with low mathematics anxiety exhibit pseudo constructions “incorrect” that is, they provide incorrect answers but are able to correct them after reflection, construction holes in the form of correct answers that are not supported by a complete conceptual understanding, and illogical constructions involving reasoning that does not align with the concept of exponents. Meanwhile, students with high levels of mathematics anxiety exhibited conceptual construction holes because they were not yet able to fully grasp the concept of exponents. Mis-analogical construction involved the use of inappropriate analogies when applying the properties of exponents, while mis-logical construction involved flawed reasoning when solving problems involving exponents. The research findings indicate differences in the types of errors in mathematical concept construction based on students’ levels of mathematics anxiety

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the impact of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model on junior high school students’ creative and critical thinking skills in learning Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SLETV). A quantitative approach was employed through a quasi-experimental design, specifically the Posttest-Only Control Group Design. The research population comprised all eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Purbalingga. Two classes were selected as research samples, with one serving as the experimental group that received instruction through the PjBL model and the other functioning as the control group that experienced conventional teaching practices. Data were obtained using a structured objective test accompanied by reasoning-based items. The collected data were analyzed through descriptive statistical techniques, normality and homogeneity testing, Independent Samples t-test, and Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA). The findings revealed that students in the experimental group achieved a higher mean posttest score (83.83) than those in the control group (70.17). Statistical analysis indicated a significance value of 0.000, which was lower than the 0.05 threshold, demonstrating that the implementation of PjBL significantly improved students’ creative and critical thinking skills when examined separately. In addition, the MANOVA results produced the same significance value, confirming that the learning model simultaneously affected both cognitive abilities. These findings suggest that learning activities involving project development, investigation, and authentic problem-solving situations can foster students’ ability to generate ideas creatively, evaluate information critically, and construct solutions more effectively than conventional instructional approaches.

Abstract

Students' ability to solve mathematical problems remains a crucial issue in Indonesian education, often caused by a lack of contextual interaction and teacher-centered learning. This study aims to analyze the impact of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities through a meta-analysis method. A total of 23 primary studies that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software version 4.0 with a random-effects model. The results show that the CTL approach has a strong and significant effect on students' mathematical problem-solving skills, with an overall effect size (Hedges’ g) of 0.819. Moderator analysis indicates that education level, region, and sample size do not significantly influence mathematical problem-solving ability through the CTL model. These findings affirm that the CTL approach is an effective instructional strategy for enhancing students' mathematical problemsolving abilities by connecting abstract concepts to real-world contexts. The educational implications of this study suggest that teachers and policymakers should consistently promote the implementation of CTL to foster more meaningful and contextual mathematics learning.

Abstract

ResearchThis research was motivated by the low ability of students in solvingmathematical problems that require reflective thinking. This study aims toexplore the stages and strategies of students' thinking in solvingmathematical problems at SMP Sains Qur'an Minhajut Thullab, East Lampung. The researchused an exploratory descriptive qualitative approach with sixeighth-grade students as subjects selected purposively. Data were collectedthrough tests, interviews, and observations, then analysed using theMiles and Huberman model and validated by triangulation of sources and methods. The resultsof the study show that the students' thinking processes reflect the stages ofproblem solving according to Dewey's model, with variations in the consistency ofits application. Students with high abilities are able to follow almost allstages of reflective thinking systematically, while students with moderate abilitiesonly reach the stages of reasoning and verification of results, and studentswith low abilities tend to stop at the stage of drawing conclusions withoutdeep reflection. This variation shows that the level of reflective thinking ability affects the completeness of the stages of mathematical problem solving,so that strengthening metacognitive aspects and reflective thinking exercises are necessaryto improve the effectiveness of mathematics learning.
