Abstract

Around the world, dysmenorrhea cases have already reached the high level. Data from WHO showed that there were 1,769,425 women (90%) suffering from dysmenorrhea. In the meantime, regular exercise has been known to be able to decrease the risks of dysmenorrhea since it could trigger the secretion of endorphin hormone, which could ease the pains. It is expected that doing regular exercises could decrease the number of dysmenorrhea sufferers. This study aimed at finding out the correlations between exercise habits and dysmenorrhea of nursing science students of Health Science Faculty of Musi Charitas Catholic University Palembang. Analytic survey was used with cross sectional approach. The respondents were 57 nursing science students, out of 131 total populations. They were selected by stratified random sampling method. The data from univariate statistic test showed: 42.1% (24) of respondents had good exercise habits, 57.9% (33) did not have good exercise habits, 61.4% (35) suffered from dysmenorrhea, and 38.6% (22) did not suffer from dysmenorrhea. The result of bivariate statistic test by chi square showed p value 0.001 < 0.05, which meant there were correlations between exercise habits and dysmenorrhea. As a result, the female students were suggested to do exercise regularly to avoid the pains of menstruation.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding refers to breastfeeding only and no other food/drink from birth to 6 months of age. Working mothers often fail to provide exclusive breastfeeding. The exclusive breastfeeding coverage rate in the working area of the Kasiyan Health Center is 19.93%, the lowest in Jember Regency. This study was to determine the effect of exposure to information about the inability to provide exclusive breastfeeding with the availability of facilities for mothers who work in the working area of the Kasyan Public Health Center, Jember Regency. This study was included in a quantitative and cross-sectional study on mothers with infants aged 6-12 months who were not exclusively breastfed. The sample size was obtained through purposive sampling technique. The research tool uses a questionnaire. The analysis was performed using a one-sample chi-square statistical test. From the calculation of the analysis results, the p-value of both the availability of facilities and information exposure is 0.000.These results indicate that the availability of facilities and information exposure have a significant effect on the failure of exclusive breastfeeding for working mothers. This proves that the mother has sufficient knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding, but cannot achieve exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months without the support of facilities. In addition to continuous education from health workers, cross-sectoral and cross-program collaboration also needs to be encouraged to increase the success of exclusive breastfeeding among working mothers.
