Abstract

Acne vulgaris is a skin disease caused by the accumulation of excess oil that clogs the pores of the facial skin, triggering bacterial growth and inflammation of the skin. One of the factors contributing to the occurrence of acne vulgaris is diet, particularly excessive sugar consumption. This study aims to determine the relationship between excessive sugar consumption and the incidence of acne vulgaris in male students at SMA Pertiwi 1 Padang. This research is a quantitative study with a correlational analytic method and a cross-sectional design. The population of this study consists of 90 male students at SMA Pertiwi 1 Padang who have acne vulgaris, and a sample of 47 students was obtained using consecutive sampling techniques. Data were collected using the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and analysed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that most respondents experienced mild acne vulgaris, with 23 individuals (48.9%), while the majority had a high sugar intake (>50 grams per day), consisting of 24 individuals (51.1%). The Chi-Square test results indicated a significant relationship between excessive sugar consumption and the incidence of acne vulgaris (p = 0.001; p < 0.05). The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between excessive sugar consumption and the incidence of acne vulgaris among male students at SMA Pertiwi 1 Padang. It is expected that students will pay more attention to their daily sugar intake and reduce the consumption of sweet foods and drinks to prevent the occurrence of acne vulgaris. Keywords: Excessive Sugar Consumption, Acne Vulgaris

Abstract

The prevalence of elderly people experiencing insomnia every year is estimated at around 25%-57% and 19% experience serious sleep disorders. As they age, the elderly usually face various health problems, one of which is insomnia. This insomnia not only worsens the quality of life of the elderly, but also increases the possibility of health complications such as hypertension, stroke, coronary heart disease, and even the risk of premature death. One of the contributing factors is excessive coffee consumption and smoking habits. Research Objective To determine the relationship between coffee consumption and smoking with insomnia in the elderly in the Sei Langkai Community Health Center Work Area. This study used an analytical observational design through a Cross Sectional approach. The research sample was 95 elderly people taken using a purposive sampling technique. The data collection tool used a questionnaire and data analysis used the Spearman Rank statistical test. Based on the results of the Spearman Rank statistical test on the relationship between coffee consumption and smoking, the p-value showed 0.000 (<0.05) which means Ho was rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between coffee consumption and smoking and insomnia in the elderly in the Sei Langkai Community Health Center (UPT) working area of Batam City. Elderly people should reduce excessive coffee consumption and stop smoking, as both can worsen heart and lung health, sleep problems, and increase the risk of chronic disease. Keywords: Insomnia, Elderly, Coffee Consumption, Smoking

Abstract

Abstract

Elections are a fundamental instrument for realizing popular sovereignty and represent a central pillar of democracy in Indonesia. As a mechanism that ensures the peaceful transfer of power, elections play a crucial role in strengthening governmental legitimacy, promoting accountability, and providing equal political participation opportunities for all citizens. However, the electoral process continues to face significant challenges, including widespread vote-buying, digital disinformation, low voter literacy, and weak law enforcement against electoral violations. These issues highlight the urgency of evaluating the effectiveness of elections as the foundation of Indonesian democracy. This study employs a normative legal research method using statutory, conceptual, and doctrinal approaches to examine the legal framework, principles, and practices governing elections. The results indicate that although Indonesia’s electoral regulations are relatively comprehensive, their implementation faces structural, technical, and cultural obstacles that undermine democratic quality. Strengthening electoral institutions, improving civic political education, and reforming the enforcement of electoral law are essential to ensuring that elections truly function as a cornerstone of democracy. Keywords: Election, Democracy, Law Enforcement
