Abstract

Background: Hemorrhoid disease, or piles, remains a prevalent global health issue. Hemorrhoidectomy is a common surgical intervention; however, effective postoperative pain management remains a persistent clinical challenge, directly influencing recovery outcomes and patient satisfaction. Objective: This rapid review aimed to identify the most effective nursing and clinical interventions for managing postoperative pain following hemorrhoidectomy. Methods: A rapid evidence review was conducted using five electronic databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, Sage Journals, SpringerLink, and Scopus. The search included studies published between 2016 and 2024 that investigated pain management strategies for patients undergoing hemorrhoid surgery. Articles were screened based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of eight original research articles met the eligibility criteria and were included in the final analysis. Data on study design, sample size, intervention type, and pain outcomes were extracted and synthesized narratively. Results: Among the various interventions evaluated, the use of absorbable gelatin sponges as hemostatic agents demonstrated superior efficacy in reducing postoperative pain compared to other commonly used materials, such as epinephrine-soaked gauze. Six out of the eight included studies reported significant reductions in pain intensity and improved patient comfort with gelatin sponge application. These findings highlight the potential of this intervention as a cost-effective and clinically practical approach for enhancing postoperative care. Conclusion: Absorbable gelatin sponges represent a promising option for postoperative pain management following hemorrhoidectomy. Nonetheless, further large-scale and high-quality studies are warranted to strengthen the evidence base and inform broader clinical adoption

Abstract

Background: Hemodialysis is vital for patients with end-stage renal disease, and adherence to fluid restrictions is crucial for preventing complications and improving quality of life. However, many patients struggle with fluid intake control due to limited understanding. Objective: This study aimed to assess the impact of visual learning media and guidebooks on fluid intake control, measured by Interdialytic Weight Gain (IDWG), in hemodialysis patients. Methods: A quasi-experimental design involved 26 participants in the intervention group, who received visual media and guidebooks, and 26 controls. IDWG was used to measure fluid restriction compliance. Data were analyzed using t-tests and multiple linear regression. Results: The intervention group showed a significant reduction in IDWG (p < 0.001), indicating improved compliance. Regression analysis found that education level (R² = 0.353, p = 0.008) was a significant predictor of fluid restriction compliance. Conclusion: Visual learning media and guidebooks significantly improve fluid restriction adherence in hemodialysis patients, leading to a reduction in IDWG. These tools are effective for enhancing patient education and improving clinical outcomes.

Abstract

Background: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common issue following Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP). Pelvic Floor Muscle Training (PFMT), including Kegel and Bridging exercises, is a promising non-pharmacological intervention for managing UI. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Pelvic Floor Muscle Training, combining Kegel and Bridging exercises, in reducing urinary incontinence among post-TURP patients, and to identify factors associated with UI severity. Methods: A quasi-experimental pre-posttest design was employed involving 44 male patients who had undergone TURP. Participants were allocated into an intervention group (n = 22), which received six sessions of PFMT over three weeks, and a control group (n = 22), which received standard care. UI severity was measured using the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UI SF) before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and regression analysis. Results: The intervention group demonstrated a significant reduction in UI scores from 15.50 (SD = 2.50) to 7.41 (SD = 4.12) (p = 0.0001), whereas the control group exhibited only minor improvement. Regression analysis identified age and body mass index (BMI) as significant predictors of UI severity (p = 0.037 and p = 0.041, respectively). Conclusion: Pelvic Floor Muscle Training effectively decreases urinary incontinence severity following TURP surgery. Integrating PFMT into routine postoperative nursing care may enhance patient outcomes and facilitate recovery. Future research should explore long-term adherence and outcomes associated with PFMT in diverse patient populations.

Abstract

Background: Nurses in the Cardiovascular Care Unit (CVCU) have a key role in delivering Person Centered Care (PCC), which focuses on respecting patient preferences and improving care quality. Despite its importance, the implementation of PCC still faces several challenges in clinical practice. Objective: This study aimed to explore the experiences of CVCU nurses in implementing Person Centered Care in a hospital setting. Method: A qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach was used. Six nurses working in the CVCU were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and analyzed through thematic analysis based on Colaizzi’s method. Results: The study identified five main themes: (1) Satisfaction with nursing care, (2) Involvement of patients and families, (3) Communication and collaboration between nurses and doctors, (4) Suboptimal communication patterns between nurses and patients, and (5) Time management and workload. Discussion: The findings indicate that PCC contributes to greater satisfaction in nursing care delivery. However, several barriers, such as limited communication and workload issues, need to be addressed. These insights can inform strategies for broader PCC implementation across different hospital wards. Hospital management should support this process by addressing potential obstacles and facilitating a supportive environment for PCC.

Abstract

Background: Children's health issues are one of the government's priorities in creating a quality generation. One effort to achieve this goal is that all children under five are given immunization. The challenge in implementing the immunization program which causes the immunization coverage target to not be achieved is the low level of knowledge. So the role of Health workers is to provide information using demonstration methods and discovery methods. Objectives : To determine the effectiveness of the demonstration method and discovery method on mothers' knowledge about the completeness of basic immunization for babies in the working area of the Cibadak District. Method: This research used quasi-experimental research with a sample size of 36 people. Data techniques include univariate analysis using frequency distribution and bivariate analysis using paired t test. Result: The results of this study show that there is an influence of health education methods and findings on maternal knowledge about the completeness of basic immunization, p value 0.000. Conclusions and Suggestions: Providing education using discovery is more effective than demonstration in increasing mothers' knowledge about basic immunization. It is hoped that the provision of education can be implemented to increase mothers' knowledge of basic immunization.

Abstract

Background: The Kidney Disease and Quality of Life Short Form (KDQOL-SF™ v1.3) was specifically developed to assess quality of life in individuals with kidney disease, including those not yet requiring dialysis. With the increasing burden of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Indonesia, there is a need for culturally adapted and psychometrically sound instruments. Objective: This study aimed to adapt, validate, and evaluate the reliability of the Indonesian version of the KDQOL-SF™ v1.3 among hemodialysis patients. Methods: The KDQOL-SF™ v1.3 was adapted for cultural use by following international guidelines, including forward and backward translation, expert review, and interviews with patients. A total of 190 hemodialysis patients took part in the study. Construct validity was tested using factor analysis, and convergent validity was checked by comparing it with the EQ-5D-5L quality of life scale. Differences in scores between early-stage CKD patients and those on hemodialysis were used to test known-groups validity. Reliability was measured through internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha) and a two-week test–retest method. Results: Of the 225 patients invited, 190 (84.4%) completed the survey. The content validity index (CVI) ranged from 0.73 to 1.00 across items. Exploratory factor analysis revealed factor loadings between 0.501 and 0.872, supporting construct validity. Significant correlations between the KDQOL-SF™ v1.3 domain scores and EQ-5D-5L measures confirmed convergent validity. Known-groups validity was demonstrated by significantly lower scores in physical function, role-physical, mental health, general health, pain, and fatigue domains among hemodialysis patients compared to those with earlier-stage CKD (p < 0.05). Cronbach’s alpha values ranged from 0.710 to 0.883 across domains, indicating good internal consistency, while test-retest reliability coefficients ranged from 0.702 to 0.852. Conclusion: The Indonesian version of the KDQOL-SF™ v1.3 is a valid and reliable tool to measure quality of life in hemodialysis patients. It can be used in both clinical practice and research to support patient-centered care and track outcomes. Future research should look at how well the tool detects changes in health and whether it works for patients with other stages of CKD

Abstract

Background: Adolescents are vulnerable to engaging in risky behaviors that compromise their health. Motivational interviewing (MI) is a brief intervention that can promote positive behavior changes. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the effect of MI on adolescent life skills related to risky behavior prevention in Indonesia. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test/post-test control group was conducted between April and May 2021. The intervention group received five weekly MI counseling sessions (30–45 minutes each). Life skills were assessed using the Life Skill Training Questionnaire for High School Students (LSTQ-HS). An ANCOVA test was used to compare post-intervention scores between groups, controlling for baseline differences. Results: The intervention group’s total life skills score significantly increased from 94.57 (SD=14.06) to 117.80 (SD=4.71) (p<0.001). Significant improvements were also observed across refusal skills, assertiveness, relaxation, and self-control (p<0.05). ANCOVA analysis confirmed a significant difference between the intervention and control groups post-intervention (F=94.82, p<0.001). Conclusions: Motivational interviewing effectively enhanced adolescents' life skills related to risky behavior prevention. Integrating MI into school-based life skills programs may support adolescent health. Future studies with rigorous designs and larger sample sizes are recommended to strengthen these findings.
