Abstract

This study aims to understand the characteristics and textures of various types of fabrics and how these properties influence client expectations and the production workflow within a garment-manufacturing (convection) environment. Commonly used materials such as rayon, rib, velvet, and soft denim exhibit different behaviors during both the initial and final stages of production, particularly in terms of shape stability, shifting tendencies, and handling requirements. Through literature review, interviews with business owners, supervisors, and cutting operators, as well as direct field observations, this research identifies key factors that affect the final garment quality. The findings indicate that a solid understanding of fabric texture and fiber structure is essential for minimizing cutting errors, increasing material efficiency, and maintaining product consistency. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for garment-industry practitioners in optimizing production processes through material-based

Abstract

This research discusses the design of 3D Batak ethnic facial figures as a representation of Indonesian cultural identity in the context of Visual Communication Design. The process of creating a work is carried out through several stages, namely documentation, observation, work review, interviews, literature study, and design experiments. Documentation and observation produced data regarding the morphological characteristics of the Batak face, such as a firm jaw, high cheekbones, wider nose, and brown skin color. The study of cultural elements, such as ulos and rope head accessories, provided a strong visual foundation to apply to the character designs. Studying 3D stylized works from other artists becomes a reference in understanding how cultural elements can be adapted into modern visuals. Through modeling experiments using Blender, 3D characters were then built using a stylized approach that still maintains the uniqueness of Batak culture. The final results show that 3D facial figures can be a media for cultural representation that is informative, aesthetic, and relevant to today's visual design needs. It is hoped that this work will expand the use of 3D technology in preserving and spreading the cultural identity of the archipelago

The research employs the Design Thinking method, consisting of empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and testing stages. Data were collected through observation of sports poster design trends, literature review on visual communication design, and interviews with potential participants. The design results indicate that the application of retro visual elements, including bold typography, contrasting color schemes, visual textures, and photographic manipulation techniques, produces a communicative poster with a strong visual character. Beyond functioning as an informational medium, the poster also contributes to establishing a distinctive and memorable brand identity for the Justisia Half Marathon event.

Abstract

Barongan is a form of traditional performing art rooted in ritual practices and belief systems, particularly within Javanese and Balinese traditions. Along with social change and cultural mobility, this art form has undergone transformation when practiced within transmigrant communities. This study aims to analyze the recontextualization of Barongan aesthetics in the works of Andre Saputra in Sumber Sari Village, Nibung District, North Musi Rawas Utara Regency, South Sumatra. The research employs a qualitative approach with an art ethnography strategy to examine the relationship between the artist’s creative process, the visual characteristics of the artwork, and the socio-cultural context of the transmigrant community. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model with a symbolic-aesthetic approach based on Monroe Beardsley’s theory of aesthetics, which includes unity, complexity, and intensity. The findings reveal that Andre Saputra’s Barongan works represent a process of cultural adaptation that integrates Javanese Barongan visual traditions with the local socio-cultural context of transmigrant society. The artworks demonstrate strong aesthetic qualities through coherent visual composition, intricate ornamental details, and intense expressive character. Furthermore, Barongan has undergone a recontextualization of function from a ritual medium into a form of popular performance art that serves both as entertainment and as a cultural commodity within the creative economy. Thus, Barongan in transmigrant settings functions not only as cultural heritage but also as a form of urban art that reflects cultural identity, artistic creativity, and the social dynamics of contemporary society

Abstract

The crisis of farmer succession in Indonesia is becoming increasingly prominent as Generation Z’s interest in the agricultural sector declines. The Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment Support Services (YESS) program was launched as a strategic initiative to address this issue; however, awareness of this program among the younger generation remains very low. This study aims to design a promotional video for the YESS Program that can effectively reach and capture the interest of Generation Z. The design method is based on the three main elements proposed by Zeisel (1981)—imaging, presenting, and testing—with primary data collected through interviews and questionnaires. The promotional video is designed in a semi-cinematic style, featuring a five-second opening hook and incorporating social proof in the form of participant testimonials. The strength of this approach lies in its ability to translate the macro-level issue of farmer regeneration into a visual narrative that resonates with the daily lives of Generation Z. The study’s conclusion affirms that the resulting promotional video prototype serves as an appropriate communication tool to bridge the information gap between the YESS Program and its target audience.
