Abstract

This research explores electric scooters in urban environments in Indonesia, with a focus on adapting technology and design to dense urban conditions. Electric scooters offer eco-friendly mobility solutions amid challenges such as congestion and diverse road infrastructure. Through qualitative research methods, this study assesses the preferences of urban users towards the dimensions, features, and design of electric scooters. The results of the interviews show that scooters with large dimensions, features such as delivery boxes, and efficient lights are highly desirable for comfort and safety in cities. Modern casual designs are also preferred because they are practical for everyday use. This research highlights the need for further development to create a more e-scooter-friendly urban environment, as well as the importance of design that is responsive to the needs of urban users.

Abstract

This article discusses the design of the main characters of the webcomic Sadewa Krama: Cinta Sejati published on the LINE Webtoon Kanvas platform. This design aims to increase the awareness of individuals aged 16-24 years old towards wayang culture. Wayang is an Indonesian culture that must be preserved. However, as time goes by, the art of wayang has experienced a process of decline due to development of the era. This is due to the language element of the puppet performance which uses the Regional Language (Javanese) and the performance time is at night. Through descriptive qualitative research methods (interviews, observations, and questionnaires) to collect and analyze data as visual concepts. It was revealed that respondents from the questionnaire tended to prefer staying up late to play gadgets. The phenomenon of the development of this era requires wayang to adapt. Hence, there is a need to transfer of mediums to adapt one medium to another. In accordance with this, the right media to communicate the story is a webcomic that can also be accessed through gadgets. Not stopping there, a story that has relevance to the problems of today's teenagers is needed. Problems that they face, for example, the formation of behavior and the search for compatibility with themselves and the environment. Lakon carangan Sadewa Krama is considered to have relevance to these problems. The character design in the webcomic is realized by adapting wayang kulit characters, combined with wayang wong, then represented in a semi-realist/semi-cartoon drawing style.

Abstract

The concept of local culture and environmentalism is a genre of art and art practice that seeks to introduce, maintain, preserve and revive the love of culture and the environment. This is because in recent times local culture has been displaced by modernisation, and the love for the environment has declined. So that an effort is needed to regenerate the love of local culture and the environment. The purpose of this research is to create artworks with the theme of local culture and environment-based, namely medallion reliefs and wood waste. Artworks with the theme of local culture and waste utilisation are one of the efforts to introduce, maintain and preserve local culture and the environment through art. The research method uses Arts based Research which is an arts-based research with the principle of adapting art creativity to social research with an artistic practice approach, because both are holistic and dynamic involving reflection, description, problem formulation and problem solving, as well as the ability to identify and explain intuition and creativity in the research process. Artistic practice uses a three-stage experimental sequence, namely: exploration stage, design stage, and realisation stage. The results of this research show that wood waste has high potential to be utilised as an alternative medium for art creation. The result of this creative process is a medallion-themed collage artwork that is environmentally friendly and affordable.

Abstract

This study discusses the rhetoric of the image of Muhammad Marzuki's (Zuk) painting with the theme of human arrogance uploaded on his Instagram account. Zuk's painting that comes with a caption provides evidence that artwork can trigger self-reflective appreciation, because of the rhetoric (strong visual language) in the visuals and captions. The purpose of this study is to explain the background of the creation of Zuk's paintings, explain the visuality of Zuk's paintings with the theme of human arrogance, and explain the rhetoric of the image of Zuk's paintings with the theme of human arrogance. This Final Project examines the rhetoric of the image of Zuk's paintings with the theme of human arrogance uploaded on his Instagram account from the perspective of Roland Barthes' rhetorical theory of imagery using the semiotic analysis method. The researcher found that the rhetoric of Zuk's work was formed because Zuk's paintings have visual elements that are relevant to appreciation, simplicity of technique and form, and captions written in simple and relaxed language. The text in the caption relays the visual meaning of the photo, so that the message and meaning become stronger. The results of the study show that there is rhetoric (strong visual language) in the photographs of Zuk's paintings and the captions that accompany them.

Abstract

This study discusses how non-linear narrative structure is used to construct dramatic scenes in the film Jatuh Cinta Seperti di Film-Film. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the non-linear narrative structure contributes to four dramatic elements: conflict, suspense, curiosity, and surprise. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method to examine each scene in detail. The data were analyzed using narrative analysis techniques, including plot, time sequence, characters, conflict, goal, setting, and theme. The findings show that 27 scenes in the film display a non-linear narrative pattern, where scenes are arranged non-chronologically and often blend reality with imagination. This narrative approach effectively creates dramatic tension and emotional depth throughout the film. The presence of interconnected dramatic elements in each act strengthens the overall narrative and drives the story forward with emotional resonance.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to deconstruct the mechanisms by which the website's visual design constructs and conveys meaning, utilizing the semiotic framework developed by Roland Barthes. This inquiry specifically investigates how visual symbols operate beyond their overt messages to reproduce and reinforce values that are widely accepted as given. Adopting a qualitative interpretative method, the study applies Barthes' critical semiotic analysis across three levels of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. Results show that the figure of a bespectacled owl functions as a signifier for the intelligent "digital native." Furthermore, a "DIY" poster promotes ideologies related to technological libertarianism and neoliberal economics, whereas a "Space Available" billboard serves as a veiled critique of digital commercialization. On a mythological level, the website perpetuates the narratives of "technological solutionism" and "meritocracy," thereby obscuring the diverse realities of access to technology. Ultimately, this research posits that contemporary visual design employs advanced semiotic tactics to naturalize dominant ideologies, presenting them as unquestionable truths.

Abstract

Raden Saleh’s painting The Arrest of Prince Diponegoro is one of the most significant works in Indonesian art history, valued not only for its aesthetic qualities but also for its symbolic resistance to colonialism. This study aims to examine how the cultural and historical values embedded in the painting can be re-presented through interactive digital education in the form of a game. The research employed a qualitative method through literature review, visual observation, and interviews with art practitioners and digital media users. The findings reveal that interactive media enables artworks to be experienced not merely as static visuals but through participatory mechanisms such as exploration, object interaction, and digital narratives. Therefore, digital adaptation through gaming can serve as an educational tool aligned with technological development while enhancing public appreciation of Indonesian art and history.
