Abstract

This research aims to (1) understand the creation of Barata Sena's art furniture through the lens of Victor Papanek's Function Theory, and (2) explore the artistic values of Barata Sena's art furniture. This study is a qualitative descriptive research. The data sources for this study include the informant (Barata Sena), events (the process of creating art furniture), and documents (articles on Barata Sena’s art furniture and photographs of the furniture pieces). Data collection was conducted through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The results of this research reveal that Barata Sena is a creative figure, and his creative process aligns with Victor Papanek's Function Theory. The ideas and concepts behind his art furniture, such as the floating table concept and the scarf bench, are inspired by elements from the artist’s surroundings. Both pieces are produced for the upper-middle-class market, particularly art gallery owners both domestically and internationally. Both works incorporate three elements of visual art: color, space, and texture, as well as the principles of visual art, including unity, balance, simplicity, and center of interest. Additionally, both works carry specific meanings relevant to human life.

Abstract

“IN PAIN” History of Dental Disease in photography is the idea of the final project to represent the history of toothache experienced by the artist. Through the medium of still life photography, the creation of this work will raise objects related to toothache. Still-life photography is usually made in a studio setting where the artist uses the right composition and lighting to display the shape, show the surface quality of the object, build a mood, and draw the audience's attention to certain elements, by using Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic approach in selecting objects so that they can be present symbolically, conveying a strong narrative and message for the connoisseur of the work. The choice of presentation of the work uses a still-life photography approach with artificial light techniques to visualize events. Artificial light is used to freely adjust the direction of incoming light and which parts need to be illuminated. The artist uses a softbox and studio strobe light as lighting tools because they are easy to move and maneuver. Softboxes are used to shoot several works that require smooth and even lighting, so the resulting shadows look relatively soft and even. Meanwhile, studio strobe light is used in shooting several works that require hard or strong lighting, so that the resulting shadows also look relatively strong and clear to maximize the texture and dimensions of the object.

Abstract

Film Di Balik Raut Sunyi addresses mental health issues arising from the writer's concern over the lack of awareness and support for these issues, particularly social anxiety disorder. In the film Di Balik Rraut Sunyi this issue is portrayed through the story of a clown named Brian who appears to be fine when he is in character but suffers from social anxiety when he is himself. The production of the film Di Balik Raut Sunyi was managed using a time efficiency strategy, with the writer taking on the role of producer. The producer plays a crucial role in the filmmaking process, which involves script development, pre-production, production, and post- production. The time efficiency strategy was implemented during the pre-production phase by combining the Pre-Production Meeting (PPM) with other stages such as reading, recce, wardrobe and makeup fitting. Additionally, this strategy was used to plan the shooting days and schedule based on the scene breakdown in the script. The combination of these processes demonstrates that a time efficiency strategy can be applied to maximize the filmmaking process within a limited timeframe.

Abstract

Jacques Lacan divides the human psychic area or subject into three parts, namely The Real, The Imaginary, and The Symbolic. In The Ivanna by Kimo Stamboel, Ivanna passes through these three rooms as a ghost who is looking for her head. The Ivanna tells about the terror of the ghost of Ivanna, who suffered a tragic death because she was killed by Japanese soldiers. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method that processes selected scenes in the film Ivanna for analysis to find three psychic spaces that Ivanna passes through as a head-seeking ghost. The Real is experienced when Ivanna's ghostly body is destroyed, thrown in a well, and burned. Ivanna experienced The Imaginary when Ambar saw a projection on the wall regarding Ivanna's past. Ambar, who can translate the meaning of the projections on the wall, finds Ivanna's demands, in the form of bodily integrity. Meanwhile, Ivanna goes through The Symbolic while hunting for the heads of people living in a nursing home. Ivanna got her wish, but because the head she took did not match her wishes, she continued hunting for new heads
