Abstract

Exploration of plot development patterns in narrative structure can be seen from the Time Loop Plot which is used in several films in a very unique way. This plot pattern emphasizes a character trapped in space and time that repeats itself continuously. This qualitative research uses an observational approach that focuses on observing Time Loop Plot patterns and connecting them with three different genre variants, namely Edge of Tomorrow (action-science fiction), Happy Death Day (thriller-horror), and Palm Spring (roman-comedy). This research aims to obtain an overview of the narrative structure pattern "Time Loop Plot" which can be applied in various genres through a visual element approach, as well as looking for a storytelling motif in the application of this plot development pattern in each different genre, using the approach of narrative theory and aesthetics. The results of this research reveal a pattern which shows that the time loop plot pattern is character-driven by the main character. The relationship with genre shows a pattern that differences in genre in the application of time loop plots will result in differences in the development of tone and mood in the film. Keywords: narrative, plot, time loop, genre

Abstract

This study discusses the design of a short film titled Nggabrul as one of the media used as therapy for primary school children. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused parents to worry about their children's education and eventually help them do their homework. The purpose of this design is to produce a film with a cinematic therapy approach by taking the theme of current life phenomena. Cinema therapy can be said to be the use of movies or watching activities to manage medical health, mental health, and life management. The design method used refers to the stages of creative design proposed by Graham Wallas, consisting of (a) preparation, (b) incubation, (c) illumination, and (d) verification. The result is a simple storytelling package. With the choice of angles of the online learning process in the era of COVID-19 as well as the proper cinematographic techniques, the Nggabrul film becomes one of the right therapeutic media for children to face the new normal era and provide moral teachings of honesty. Abstract

This article examines the third edition of the Afro-Asian Film Festival (AAF), held in Jakarta in 1964. A series of film festivals that serve as a container of meetings between newly independent and still colonized nations to articulate the political expressions of the third world. The festival was studied with a qualitative-descriptive approach. Analysis of his research data through textual and contextual reading of available archival material, such as film plays, delegation speeches, communiques, and newspaper coverage, involving theoretical ideas of Peripheral Marxism. There are two findings, firstly, showing the ideological contribution of the left that makes FFAA III more radical than the previous two editions of the FFAA. Secondly, a textual analysis of the two winning films shows the role of FFAA III in giving space to issues and knowledge generated by women. FFAA III articulates anti-colonial third-world political expressions as well as anti-imperialist leftist thinking based on the objective everyday realities of third-world people, which in this paper appear in the percolation of women living in feudal cultures. The findings of this research are useful in enriching knowledge of the history of film in the era of independence and adding to the spirit of nationalism.
