Abstract

This article is the result of literature study and archival research which is carried out with the aim of revealing the meaning and impact of the existence of the story of Petruk Dadi Ratu in the world of Javanese culture and politics during the king regime. In an atmosphere of structural domination by the colonial regime, the emergence of wayang and stories represented a response from the kings and the societies through arts and culture towards colonial hegemony. For this reason, the method used in this research is a structural history methodology which also includes historical research methods, with a semiotic approach to obtain appropriate interpretation results on the symbolism attached to the object. The data used in this paper is textual data as well as observing the form of the Petruk puppet as a king in both Surakarta and Yogyakarta styles. As a conclusion from this research, Petruk Dadi Ratu is a successful form of Javanese response in the aesthetic values that grow in its arts and cultures towards the forms of foreign power in all areas of life.

Abstract

This article discusses the aesthetics of the Wayang Klithik performance Lakon Damarwulan Ngratu presented by Hadi Purwanto. This research uses the aesthetic theory of puppetry namely nuskma and mungguh by Sunardi and is supported by the aesthetic concept of popular puppetry. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The techniques of data collection consist of observation, interviews and literature study. The analysis is carried out by using a puppetry aesthetic approach that is presented systematically. The result of study were consist of : klithik puppet performered by Ki Hadi Purwanto had nuksma and mungguh esthetic, in the scene of pleasure park’s Blambangan kingdom and Majapahit kingdom. Those scenes also contained local wisdom of Jepara society.

Abstract

This article entitled Nilai Moral Dalam Novel Anak-Anak Semar Karya Sindhunata (Moral Values in the Novel Anak-Anak Semar by Sindhunata) aims to describe the moral values contained in the novel Anak-Anak Semar by Sindhunata. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with a structural approach. The writer reads the novel Anak-Anak Semar by Sindhunata, understands its structural elements and then concludes, based on the interrelationship of these elements, what moral values the author wants to convey to the reader. The results of this study show that moral values are related to (1). the human relationship with oneself, namely feelings of self-confidence, sadness, longing, arrogance, and ambition; (2). human relations with other humans include affection, sacrifice, love of country, disappointment, power, wealth, greed, and lies, as well as falsehood; and (3). Human relationship with God includes belief in God, death, immortality, patience, always remembering and being alert. It is hoped that this article can make a contribution in the form of learning moral values in human life, social and state life, to society in general and children in particular.

Abstract

The issue of tumbal has been known by nations since the ancient times. The types and forms can be in the form of property, animals, or humans of high value. Tumbal is needed in order to achieve a great desire such as building a building, reservoir, bridge, wealth, getting a partner, or achieving a certain position. In the Nusantara tradition, tumbal is often considered synonymous with the word korban (victim), which is interpreted negatively. It is in contrast to tumbal which is considered positive. The word korban is identical to korban persembahan, also with tumbal tawur. The Baratayuda War was a major war that would determine the survival of the Kurawa and Pandawa. To face this major war, both sides prepared themselves both from militaristic as well as spiritual perspectives. From a spiritual perspective, both prepared tumbal tawur which was offered to the supernatural power, the ruler of the universe who would give victory. This article compares the tumbal tawur that would be carried out by the Kurawa and Pandawa. This is important because it is possible that the quality of the tumbal tawur will determine their victory. The strategy used is to compare how to get the tumbal tawur, how to perform tumbal tawur ceremony or korban, the organizer of the korban, and the directed recipient of the korban.

Abstract

This article is the result of contemplation about the phenomena that occur in today’s society. In this millennial era, it seems that many people believe in controversial things, one of which is Jangka Jayabaya which is famous as a prophecy of the times. This is a challenge for the academic community therefore, the author tries to straighten out the information that is “konon” (supposedly) with the method of observation of various library references. The results of the observations obtained, both from historical records, ancient literary works, legends of the Javanese kingdom era, and journal articles in the mass media, show that the name Jayabaya in the book entitled Jangka Jayabaya is not the name of Jayabaya, the king of the Kadiri Kingdom as referred to in the historical facts of the Javanese kingdom.

Abstract

This study examines the role and influence of the sound system in Ki Purbo Asmoro’s ancient shadow puppet performance. Research studies answer three basic questions as the formulation of research problems, namely (1) How the concept of sound in the wayang purwa performance? (2) What are the sound system devices for amplification and how is it applied in wayang purwa performances? and (3) What is the role and function of using a sound system in a puppet show? prototype? This type of research uses a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collection through interview with resource persons, literature study and observation. Results Research shows that the use of sound system technology in performances wayang purwa with the puppeteer Ki Purbo Asmoro not only for the sake of amplify sound. Utilization by means of microphones, audio mixers and equalizer is done to amplify the sound. Sound reinforcement in the sense of wayang performances don’t have to be loud, but the strength of the sound can mean sound clear and/or clear sound.

Abstract

This article discusses the preservation of banana trunks or banana tree trunks as a performance art device for wayang kulit purwa. This preservation is important considering that the trunk is the puppet performance device that cannot last long. In fact, its existence is very vital, especially as a medium for attaching puppets during the performance. The preservation method is carried out experimentally by reducing the water content of the trunk. As a result, the trunk, which usually only lasts one to two days, can be preserved for approximately one week. This preservation engineering of the trunk is very useful, especially in learning the art of wayang kulit purwa, both in formal and non-formal education.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the aesthetics mendhalungan on the Banyumasan style puppet show Srikandhi Mustikaningrat presented by Bagas Kriswanto. This research is expected to enrich the elements of performance aesthetics, and can be used as reference material for similar studies. The characteristic of Banyumasan style lies in the elements of pakeliran work, namely catur, sabet and pakeliran music. In this regard, the play Srikandhi Mustikaningrat in Banyumasan style presented by Bagas Kriswanto is explored using the theory of performance aesthetics which aims to describe the performance aesthetics with the concept of mendhalungan. This research uses the qualitative method by Moleong, which uses literature review, observation, interviews, transcription, and data analysis. To analyze the aesthetics of this performance using the concept of mendhalungan proposed by Bagong Pujiono. This research shows that the achievements of the mendhalungan concept were successfully presented by Bagas Kriswanto. This is proven by achieving harmony between the five elements in one performance.

Abstract

Wayang has a history related to part of the worship ritual of a particular belief or religion. It turns out that currently wayang is still used by the Christian community which then makes wayang that is specifically created to spread religious values, namely to proclaim the teachings of Christ. One of the wayang used for the preaching of Christianity is Wayang Pamarta. The Lakon chosen in this study is Katresnan-Ku Tanpa Wates by Wahyu Dunung Raharjo. This lakon is very interesting because it is a new lakon adapted from the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John then realized into a wayang performance using the concepts of garap pakeliran. The purpose of this study is to examine the aesthetic reception carried out by the creator to reveal the reader’s response to the Gospel, in this case Wahyu Dunung Raharjo with an active reaction applied to the wayang pamarta performance. This study uses a qualitative method with a sanggit approach and active reception. The results of the sanggit analysis were then re-analyzed with the concepts underlying the creation or arrangement of lakon wayang by Sumanto, namely: tutug, mulih, and kempel. The lakon Katresnan-Ku Tanpa Wates is the result of ‘reading’ or ‘receiving’ a sermon delivered by Pastor Petrus Agung, then undergoing a thought process until it is realized into a work of art of wayang pamarta performance. This process is carried out by interpreting sources and then producing sanggit by adding, subtracting, and innovating. The tutug criterion is reflected in the completion of the lakon events. The mulih criterion is seen in all the problems faced by the main character being resolved. The kempel criterion is seen in the intertwining of the problems of some characters presented in the lakon Katresnan-Ku Tanpa Wates.

Abstract

Garap lakon (lakon treatment) Pandawa Matirta contains moral values. This study attempts to describe the moral values found in the shadow puppet performance Lakon Pandawa Matirta presented by Cahyo Kuntadi. Moral values can be seen from the garap lakon including janturan and ginem. This study uses the theory put forward by Zuriah. The research is qualitative with data collected through literature studies, interviews, and observations on social media. The results of the study indicate that there are moral values, namely (1) the relationship between humans and God including: knowing God as the creator, God as the giver (love, affection), God as the giver of rewards (good and bad), and worship as communication with God; (2) Moral values of human relationships with humans include: greeting when meeting, not making fun of someone beyond the limit, not being prejudiced, not offending their feelings, not slandering without evidence, always maintaining their good name, and helping someone in difficulties; (3) moral values related to human relations with the environment, namely caring for flora and fauna; and maintaining environmental cleanliness.
