Abstract

Inspired by the paradigm of mate selection motives in evolutionary psychology, this research seeks to determine the extent to which violent extremist thought patterns are a product of perceptions of attractiveness that persist in men as a response to intrasexual selection. The survey was conducted on 192 samples of the general population in Indonesia, on a male sample (n = 80), after controlling for demographic variables, including dark personality (dark triad), men's subjective perception that Indonesian women find violence attractive (PAOSV) predicts militant-extremist mindset. PAOSV was the only variable that predicted violent extremism mindset in men. Furthermore, we discovered a mechanism that we call “sexualization of violence” – namely the extent to which individuals perceive violence as sexy, manly, and cool (AV) as a process that arises from the perception of high levels of positive feedback from the opposite sex towards violence. Where in the sample of men in this study, the only variable that shaped the mindset of violent extremism was sexual motives. The discussion elaborate differences in perceptions of attraction to violence between men and women, differentiation and gaps in perceptions between men and women in assessing violence. This study has practical implications, namely discussing the importance of the role of women as active agents in the formation of a culture of nonviolence.

Abstract

Being single hood has become a choice for young people now. Not a few young people have a positive attitude towards singlehood l and extend their singlehood. Being singlehood occurs because it is involuntary or is an voluntary. However, living permanently singlehood is still considered negative because it is less in harmony with developmental tasks and traditional societal norms. Do people who agree toward singlehood mean they are not afraid of being singlehood? The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between attitudes towards singlehood and fear of being singlehood among college students by controlling the variables of gender, age and romantic relationship status. This research uses a quantitative approach, namely correlational research using control variables. The subjects in this research were 401 college students aged 18-25 years. The online sampling method is to use a covenience sampling. Data were analyzed using partial correlation from Jamovi. Research findings show that there is a significant negative relationship between attitudes toward singlehood and fear of being singlehood in college students (r=-0.289, p<…..) by controlling of gender, age and romantic relationship status. This means that students who agree toward singlehood will be correlated with reduced fear of being singlhoode. These results also show that the fear of being singlehood among college students who are having romantic relationship is smaller than that of students who are not romantic relationship. Gender and age do not influence attitudes towards singlehood and fear of being singlehood.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Obesity is increasing around the world, with lower income individuals showing more obesity than wealthier ones in high income countries. Addressing this issue, Te Whatu Ora (Ministry of Health) and Total Healthcare (THC, a large Primary Health Organisation) worked together to put together a “unique and unsolicited proposal” (instead of competitive tender) to fund Brown Buttabean Motivation (BBM) to provide its 12 week From the Couch (FTC) lifestyle change and weight loss program more widely to a predominantly Māori and Pacific clientele in South Auckland. Results from a formative evaluation of 109 individuals struggling with obesity (BMI>=30) across 3 cohorts showed weight loss of 7.1 kg from an initial average weight of 173.1 kg, and mental health gains (i.e. only 20% showing depressive symptoms at the end compared to 60% at the start) for the 57% who completed the program. THC nurses, doctors, and health coaches contributed to and supported delivery of FTC, which followed BBM’s well-defined program of motivating lifestyle change. It was found that a supportive environment (no judgement) and peer-based education (accepting no excuses) motivated clients through not only diet and exercise training, but also through social media where Facebook groups formed helpful communities that supported face-to-face work in the gym. We close with discussion of BBM’s principles for success, and how extensible this might be to other communities.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Individual innovative behavior reflects the exploration and application of new ideas in the work environment. Personality and cultural orientation (individualism vs. collectivism) play an important role in shaping an employee's innovative tendencies. Unfortunately, most current research still examines personality factors and cultural orientation factors separately, even though both factors have great potential to be interrelated in predicting individual innovative behavior. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the influence of personality and cultural orientation on individual innovative behavior in the workplace. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling, with a total of 265 participants who are employees with at least one year of work experience. The research instruments consisted of the individual innovative behavior scale, the IPIP-BFM-25 Indonesia Scale, and the cultural orientation scale. The results of the study showed that individualist orientation, intellect personality, and conscientiousness were significantly related to the tendency of innovative behavior. Individuals who are open to new experiences, tend to be individualistic, have strong self-discipline, and have a high level of education are more likely to show innovative behavior. In addition, these characteristics are more often observed in male employees. Meanwhile, collectivism did not show a significant relationship with innovative behavior. These findings have important implications, both theoretically and practically. Theoretically, this study confirms that personality and culture orientation can play a role in shaping innovative behavior, although there is variation in their effects. Practically, these results indicate the importance of developing human resource management strategies that can encourage innovation by considering individual factors and work culture.
