Abstract

Introduction: The nurse organizes almost all the medication in the hospital. Objective: This study aimed to determine the influence of medication error (administration error) events from nurses at Haji Hospital Makassar in 2017. Method: This research was a quantitative research type. The design used was analytic observational with a cross-sectional approach. The purposive sampling technique determines a sample of 101 people. Data were analyzed quantitatively by using statistic analysis of cross-tabulation, chi-square, and then logistic regression analysis. Result: The results showed that the prevalence of medication error (administration error) was 166 incidents. Variables of a heavy workload, Personal Neglect, Unfamiliarity with medication, and New Staff influenced medication error (administration error). In contrast, the Complicated Doctor-initiated order, Complicated Order, and Insufficient training variables did not affect the medication error (administration error). And the most significant variable is heavy workload with p value=0.027<0.05 and OR value=0.106. Recommendation: It is expected to further research to explore more variables related to medication administration Error at the hospital

Abstract

Introduction: In Thailand, the demand for adult health care has risen due to the rapidly increased prevalence of diabetes mellitus; therefore, it is challenging to successfully implement diabetes management in rural areas due to a shortage of doctors and nurses. Objective: The purpose of this pilot study was to determine the effectiveness of a health promotion intervention developed by community village health volunteers (VHVs). Method: Twenty patients with diabetes and their family support persons living in Talat Khwan Sub-district, Chiang Mai, Thailand, participated in a diabetes health promotion intervention. The intervention consisted of diabetes education, a health campaign, and home visits. The outcomes measured were 1) fasting blood sugar levels (FBS) and 2) family involvement in health promotion behaviors using the Family Involvement Questionnaire.  Results: After the intervention, FBS and family involvement were significantly improved (ES = 1.40, t = 2.76, p < .05) and ES = 1.65, t = 3.82, p < .001, respectively), indicating that the diabetes health promotion intervention improved glycemic control and enhanced family involvement. Recommendation: Further study is needed to determine the sustainability of diabetes health-promoting behaviors as a result of the intervention

Abstract

Introduction: The main risk factors for blood pressure disease are hypertension, smoking, and elevated cholesterol. Irregularities in lifestyle and lifestyle cause health problems that can cause death, such as hypertension. Objective: The study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the giving nanoparticles turmeric consumption on blood pressure and lipid profile in hypertension patients with hypercholesterolemia. Methods: This study applied the true experiment, pretest-posttest design with a non-equivalent control group design. Data collection involved 42 respondents with a medical diagnosis of hypertension with hypercholesterolemia, selected through a probability sampling technique with a method of simple random sampling, divided into two groups of 21 respondents each. Data analysis using Paired t-test and independent t-test. Results: Independent t-test showed a significant difference p value <0.05 that the intervention group is better in reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides compared with the control group. Conclusion: Consumption of turmeric nanoparticles (Curcuma Domestica Val) is effective in lowering blood pressure and lipid profile (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides) in hypertension patients with hypercholesterolemia

Abstract

Background: The implementation of patient safety is an effective strategy in preventing and managing Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs). Objective: This study aimed to explore the obstacles in implementing the patient safety culture by dental co-assistant (co-ass) on prevention and control of HAIs in the covid-19 pandemic. Method: This study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological study approach. The sample in this study was 16 key informants consisting of 10 dental co-assistant, five dental nurses, and one hospital director. The sampling technique used the purposive sampling technique. Results: The results of this study indicate that there were five obstacles in implementing the patient safety culture to prevent and control HAIs, including 1) the rules were not strict in the implementation of patient safety culture; 2) poor attitude by the dental co-assistant (co-ass); 3) the facilities are not feasible to support the implementation of patient safety culture; 4) inadequate patient safety culture guidelines, and 5) lack of supervision in the implementation of patient safety culture. Conclusion: The results of this study provide important information related to obstacles faced by dental co-assistant in the implementation of patient safety culture to prevent and control HAIs during the covid 19 pandemic. The dental co-assistant should focus on the implementation of patient safety culture to suppress the occurrence of HAIs.

Abstract

Background: Nurses, the more significant health care provider, need an excellent work environment that adequately expresses their skills and knowledge on providing optimum care quality outcomes to the patients. Objective: This study aimed to determine the current state of the nurses’ perceived work environment quality and examine differences in perceived work environment quality among nurses with different characteristics. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional correlation design and a probability sampling method recruit 334 hospital nurses. The self-report questionnaire scale of the Quality Nursing Work Environment (QNWE) was used to collect data. Descriptive statistics, variant analysis (ANOVA), independent-sample t-test, and Pearson correlation were utilized to analyze comprehensive data. Result: The participants reported a perceived moderate level of quality of the work environment. The perceived QNWE levels were found to differ across participants' ages statistically (p<0.05), work experience (p<0.01), and department (p<0.05). Most participants rated their working environment as high quality on the domain "Professional specialization and cooperation" (M=2.81; SD=0.53). Contrarily, the responses to domain 2, "Staff quality," were ranked lower (M= 3.32; SD=0.63). Nurses who worked in the special care units and had three years or more experience perceived lower work environment quality than others did. Recommendation: The finding of this study can be utilized as a guideline to the policymakers, hospital administrators, nurse supervisors, and educators to determine areas to improve nurses' work environment; which could translate into a significant improvement in patient outcome

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is one of the deadliest diseases in the world. Progressive muscle relaxation is one way of lowering blood pressure; this technique can control tension and anxiety by training patients to relax their body muscles deliberately. Choosing videos as a medium for health education is very suitable because the public can well receive them. This media offers an education that is more interesting and less monotonous. Objective: The study aimed to determine the effect of progressive muscle relaxation on blood pressure reduction in older adults with hypertension using audio-visual media. Method: This study used a pre-experimental method with one group pretest-posttest design. A total sample of 24 respondents was recruited using the purposive sampling technique. Result: The results found that the systolic blood pressure (p<0.001) and diastolic blood pressure (p<0.05) were significantly different before and after receiving the intervention. Conclusion. The progressive muscle relaxation affects blood pressure reduction in older people with hypertension with audio-visual media in the urban village linggarsari. Recommendation: Further studies are expected to be used as the basis for further research on the Effect of Progressive Muscle Relaxation with a combination of music or guided imagery on Blood Pressure Reduction. Clinical practice is expected to be used as a reference for more effective treatment of hypertension.

Results: A total of 32 participants were from the elderly at the PangestiLawang Nursing Home. Laughter Therapy showed a significant GDS score before and after being given therapy p-value = 0.000. Classical Music Therapy also showed a significant GDS score before and after given therapy p-value = 0.002. In the comparison between both therapies, there was no significant difference between the treatment p-value = 0.541. Conclusion: There was a difference GDS before and after the elderly were given laughter therapy and classical music therapy, but there was no significant difference in GDS score between laughter therapy and classical music therapy, Both of them were given the same effect on decreasing GDS Score for the Elderly at PangestiLawang Nursing Home
