Abstract

During pandemic the role of health workers was increasingly important. However, the risks and work responsibilities they faced became more intense; so that, hospitals should give a special attention on the health and safety of their medical personnel. The aim of this study was to partially analyze the effects of supervision, workload, and knowledge on the safety and health behavior of medical personnel with risk-taking personality as a moderator. This associative study used simple random sampling and 86 medical staff as the samples. The data analysis method used partial least square analysis with the help of SmartPLS application. The results showed that supervision and knowledge had a significant effect with a positive relationship direction on occupational safety and health behavior. On the other hand, workload had a significant influence with a negative relationship direction towards occupational safety and health behavior. Furthermore, risk taking personality was identified to be able to weaken the influence of supervision and knowledge on occupational safety and health behavior. However, risk-taking personality was not able to moderate the effects of workload on occupational safety and health behavior.

Abstract

Postoperative patients experience nociceptive pain due to wound incision. The uncontrolled pain impacts on the decrease of patients’ participation in care, the patients’ dissatisfaction, and the increase of length of stay. One of efforts in reducing the pain non-pharmacologically is by breathing relaxation technique and guided imagination. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of breathing relaxation technique and guided imagination on pain reduction of postoperative patients. This study used an experimental time series design and consecutive sampling technique. The sample size was 90 people consisting of 30 respondents in the control group, 30 respondents received breathing relaxation technique and 30 respondents got guided imagination treatment. The data analysis used Fiedman test and Wilcoxon Post Hoc test. The results of Fiedman test (p value 0.0001) showed differences in pain reduction among the control group, the breathing relaxation technique group and the guided imagination group in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd days (p<0.05). Meanwhile, the Wilcoxon test results (p value 0.302) showed no significant difference in the decrease of pain intensity between the breathing relaxation technique group and the guided imagination group (p> 0.05). The combination of breathing relaxation technique, guided imagination and pharmacological techniques can be applied as an effort of providing nursing services in pain reduction among postoperative patients.

Abstract

Indonesians have relatively little interest in intrauterine device (IUD) as a long-acting birth control option. The low interest in IUD is due to the difficulty of determining contraceptive options as perceived by family planning acceptor. Factors influencing the interest of using IUD include knowledge, perception of the side effects, and husband support. This research aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge, perception of side effects and husband support to the low interest in the use of IUD. This research used analytical descriptive method and a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study was 393 family planning acceptors and the samples were 76 of them. The research instrument was a questionnaire. The data analysis used chi-square test. The results of the study showed a significant relationship between perception of side effects and low interest in IUD with p value 0.000. There was a significant relationship between husband's support and low interest in the use of IUD with p value 0.005. There was no significant relationship between knowledge and low interest in the use of IUD with p value 0.143. The researcher concluded that sufficient and good knowledge of IUD does not guarantee family planning acceptors to have an interest to use IUD. Their perception greatly influences the decision making of used-contraception type. Furthermore, husbands support significantly influence wife decision of using long-acting birth control options.

Abstract

Scavengers are people or independent informal workers who take unused items, such as plastics, cardboards and irons that can be sold and recycled. The risk of disease transmission to scavengers is greater because their work directly relates to wastes. Environmental-based diseases might be skin disorders caused by bacteria, viruses and fungi. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with skin complaints of scavengers in final disposal site. The research design used was cross-sectional. The population of this study were all scavengers at Bangkonol Final Disposal Site, Pandeglang Regency. The sample of this study amounted to 120 scavengers taken by total sampling. The results showed that there was a relationship between personal hygiene (Pv = 0.000), knowledge (Pv = 0.000), availability of information (Pv = 0.000), and working period (Pv = 0.000) with skin disease complaints. Meanwhile, there was no relationship between length of contact (Pv = 0.521) and complaints of skin diseases. Scavengers should pay more attention to clean and healthy living behaviors, including washing hands after and before work, bathing twice a day, cutting nails regularly (once a week), and regularly changing work clothes daily.
