Abstract

The Village Fund Direct Cash Assistance (BLT) is a social protection program that aims to help the poor meet basic needs and reduce economic impacts, especially after the pandemic. However, the implementation of the Village Fund BLT in Sena Village, Batang Kuis District, Deli Serdang Regency, still faces various challenges, such as the validity of recipient data, transparency of distribution, and the effectiveness of assistance in improving community welfare. This study uses the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model to evaluate the extent to which the Village Fund BLT has achieved its goals. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study show that BLT Village Funds are useful in the short term, but have not been able to improve community welfare sustainably. There are still obstacles in collecting recipient data, delays in disbursement, and a lack of assistance in the use of the assistance. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate BLT with economic empowerment programs, such as skills training and access to business capital, so that this program is not only consumptive but also contributes to sustainable village economic development.

Abstract

Berastagi tourism has great potential in supporting Karo Regency's economic growth, but competition with other destinations demands an effective marketing communication strategy. This study analyzes the strategy implemented by the Karo Regency Culture and Tourism Office in the development of Berastagi tourism. Using a qualitative approach with the case study method, data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation studies, and then analyzed with thematic analysis. The results of the study show that marketing communication strategies include digital promotion, cooperation with stakeholders, organizing cultural events, and strengthening destination branding.  Digital promotion is effective in increasing Berastagi tourism exposure, but it is constrained by budget and experts. Cooperation with travel agents and local communities has had a positive impact, but coordination still needs to be improved. Cultural festivals attract tourists, but promotion is still not optimal. Destination branding is not well structured and needs to be strengthened to be more competitive in North Sumatra. This research recommends increasing digital marketing, optimizing cultural promotion, and more innovative branding strategies so that Berastagi is more competitive as a leading tourist destination in North Sumatra.

Abstract

The study examines the effect of corporate social disclosures on the financial performance of selected banks in Nigeria. The study uses the ex post facto research design to realize its purpose. The study focuses on six years from 2015 to 2021 financial year. The sample size comprises ten listed banks in Nigeria. The results show that there is a negative relationship between social disclosures and the financial performance of banks in Nigeria. The findings show that the social performance of the banking sector needs improvement. The findings align with prior studies on the effect of social disclosures on the financial performance of banks. However, the results of the current study do not agree with some prior empirical studies. This inconclusive evidence provides a framework to guide corporate leadership in the way they conceptualize social performance and the business case arising from the same. The study recommends that banks improve their social performance and make their social disclosures more transparent and measurable to actualize the ability of stakeholders to rely on social performance information.

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of business process reengineering on outsourcing firms, specifically focusing on Hugo Inc. Process reengineering enables businesses to attain operational efficiency and sustainable practices. Business process reengineering (BPR) is extensively employed to enhance responsiveness, organizational agility, and customer satisfaction by providing superior products and services. Sustainability pertains to the ability of a production method to endure throughout time. BPR seeks to address challenges related to resource management and process implementation. This study aims to elucidate how process reengineering might assist outsourced organizations in achieving more sustainability. A firm must recognize the significance of retaining its clientele and generating profit, as well as the necessity of strategically planning its operations to ensure neither aspect is compromised. The primary components of the study are value generation and process ownership, both of which are associated with business process reengineering. Economic and environmental factors are analyzed in relation to one another and the pertinent issue to assess sustainability. The theoretical foundation of the study was based on the triple bottom line and stakeholder theory. A quantitative survey methodology was employed for this inquiry. The survey encompassed 850 employees, with a sample size of 272 individuals who received questionnaires through purposive and simple random sampling methods. The results indicated a positive correlation between process reengineering and sustainability. The study is different because it seeks to encourage outsourcing firms to reassess their operational strategies to consistently surmount challenges and maintain profitability, and how it can contribute to economic and environmental success.

Abstract

Inmate rehabilitation and reintegration remain critical challenges in Africa’s prison systems, with traditional approaches often failing to equip ex-offenders with the skills and support needed for successful societal reentry. This paper examines the role of innovation in enhancing rehabilitation and reintegration efforts, focusing on technology-driven education, vocational training, and entrepreneurial initiatives within correctional facilities. Drawing on institutional theory, it explores how systemic reforms and leadership in prison administration can foster more effective rehabilitation strategies. By analyzing secondary data and existing models of innovative prison programs, this study highlights best practices and policy recommendations that can reduce recidivism and promote sustainable development. The findings contribute to the discourse on integrating technology and leadership in criminal justice reform, offering pathways for Africa to adopt more inclusive and forward-thinking rehabilitation frameworks.

Abstract

This research investigated the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI), macroeconomic variables specifically inflation and exchange rate, and technological advancement especially financial technology (fintech) products of mobile banking transactions and point-of-sale on Nigeria’s economic development. Given the revolutionary potential of technology in the modern global economy, the study investigates how stable macroeconomic variables can draw foreign direct investment (FDI) to Nigeria's tech-driven industries, including digital finance, health technology, and telecommunications. This research utilized secondary data from 1990 till 2023 obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria, and adopted the multiple regression analysis to estimate the variables. The findings showed that FDI, inflation, exchange rate, mobile banking transaction, and point-of-sale usage significantly impact GDP per capita. This research emphasizes that foreign investment may boost innovation, increase productivity, and promote sustainable growth when it is properly focused on technological sectors. Policy recommendations include fostering a stable economic environment, investing in digital infrastructure, and designing incentives for foreign investors targeting high-tech industries. This aligns with national development goals and contributes to Africa’s broader digital transformation agenda.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze changes in the implementation of the Sayur Matua death ceremony in the Simalungun community in Saribu Dolok Village, Silimakuta District, Simalungun Regency. The method used is a qualitative approach with an in-depth interview technique with one key informant, namely Mr. Simarmata, a community leader who understands local traditions. The results of the study show that the implementation of the Sayur Matua ceremony has undergone various changes, both in terms of structure, symbols, and meaning. These changes are influenced by several main factors, including modernization, the entry of foreign culture, and shifts in social values among the younger generation. Traditional elements such as Gonrang Sipitu-pitu are still retained, although in a simpler form and not as complete as before. These findings show that there is a dynamic between cultural preservation and the need to adapt to the times. This research is expected to be a contribution to the study of local culture, as well as a consideration in efforts to preserve intangible cultural heritage, especially in the context of the Simalungun indigenous people.
