Abstract

The research’s objectives were to assess the extent to which principals and supervisors practice ethical code of conduct in leading teachers in primary schools, identify differences among leaders related to their personal characteristics, and identify immoral practices leaders experience in the schools. The research participants were 120 principals, 63 supervisors, and 62 teachers selected using stratified and available sampling techniques. The quantitative data obtained through questionnaire were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings of the research reveal that school leaders are moderately ethical in their schools’ administration. There is no significant difference in the dimensions of ethical leadership practice with reference to positions and fields of study school leaders possess. However, there is a significant difference in experience in a leadership position and academic qualification as well as between males and females. Teachers perceive that school leaders use mainly deception, abuse, harassment of subordinates, diminished dignity of employees, and breach of the agreement. It is suggested that school leaders should have professional scaffolding and training in fostering ethical leadership behavior to lead schools successfully. Those interested may conduct more detailed research considering secondary schools.

Abstract

The research aimed to review the role of the ‘mystical’ imaginary axis in Javanese cosmology in the Yogyakarta that might affect the inner spaces of the Pathok Negoro mosques (Ploso Kuning, Babadan, Dongkelan, and Mlangi). The research question was how Yogyakarta’s imaginary axis affected the inner spaces of these four Pathok Negoro. Yogyakarta was known to have a unique Javanese cosmology, cultural, and social life character compared to several cities on the island of Java. Yogyakarta kept a harmonious power between human life and the universe and still hold strong Javanese animism and was still tightly coupled with the city’s modern life. Human harmony with the universe was seen in the axis of a city that consisted of two main axes in the direction of the compass, namely north to south and east to west. The research applied a qualitative method by doing a literature study and observation. The research shows that the imaginary axis plays an essential role in Yogyakarta’s urban design and creates a sustainable concept of the four Pathok Negoro. However, it is not directly involved in the order of the inner space of the architecture design of each mosque.

Abstract

The background of research was developed by the responses of political elites to the statements of figures. The research problem was how the discourse of response and aligments from Prabowo speech entitled “Indonesia Punah” published in Kompas.com and Republika.com, which were the material objects of the research. A qualitative approach combined with a descriptive analysis techniques were applied in the research. Analysis was done by using Michael Foucault`s power relation theory. The research indicates that Kompas’ writing style tends to accentuate Jokowi’s government side as a comparison in responding to Prabowo’s speech. As for Republika, it dominates a clear description of the figure who gives the response. Then, the results of the power relations between Moeldoko and Hidayat Nur Wahid show that Moeldoko comments on behalf of the government by linking Jokowi’s performance. Meanwhile, Hidayat Nur Wahid gives a response to save the reputation of the stigma embedded in him, namely the religious figure, deputy chairman of the People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, and Prabowo’s party bearer cadre.

The research aimed to investigate the relationship between conformity and consumptive behavior in female adolescents. It applied a quantitative method with ex-post facto design. The sample was 97 female adolescents in Yogyakarta and was determined using a convenience sampling technique. They completed two questionnaires of conformity and consumptive behavior. The instrument validation technique used content validity, and the validity of the instruments was measured by psychology measurement experts. The instruments' reliability was analyzed using Cronbach Alpha with coefficients of 0,914 (consumptive behavior) and 0,790 (conformity). Data analysis techniques used Pearson product-moment correlation analysis. The result of the research shows that there is a significant positive relationship between conformity and consumptive behavior in female adolescents. In other words, conformity can be a strong predictor of consumptive behavior in female adolescents.

Abstract

The research aimed to provide alternative solutions with Material Adverse Change (MAC) before reaching the suspension of the debt payment obligation stage. The pandemic situation had caused many companies to experience difficulties in fulfilling their obligations, including payment obligations or debts to suppliers and creditors. If there were circumstances where the company could not fulfill its obligations, then the creditor would be able to collect through debt-restructuring to bankruptcy. The restructuring was carried out through the suspension of the debt payment obligation (Penundaan Kewajiban Pembayaran Utang/PKPU). The research used normative juridical methods. It focused on credit and financing transactions between companies and creditors, both banking or finance companies. The research concludes that before the suspension of a debt payment obligation, companies and creditors should negotiate based on MAC before reaching a lawsuit. In the MAC, there is an explicit clause, and it is agreed by both parties, then the creditor should acknowledge the company’s actual condition.

Abstract

The research investigated the use of email interview to develop the critical thinking and creativity of the university students in American culture classes. The students conducted email interview with Americans for group project and had group discussion with the Americans. Learning culture was an integral part of learning a language, which was crucial for the Englsih as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners to develop their awareness and understanding of the rich and dynamic cultural aspects of the target language. Thus, providing cultural experiences through project-based learning (PBL) would be motivating for the language learners in exploring the target culture. The data were collected from students’ open-ended online questionnaire and observation notes, which contain students’ interview result and their presentation slides. Descriptive statistics and thematic analysis were used in analyzing the data. The findings indicate that the use of project-based approach is helpful to enhance the students’ understanding and critical thinking skills. Moreover, it is found that the students’ positive attitude has increased due to the use of PBL. They are more critical towards the cultural phenomenon since their communication skill has developed.

Abstract

The research aimed to reveal the impacts by adolescents who experienced internet addiction with pornographic content. It applied a qualitative approach, namely an instrumental case study. Participants were 18-25 years old, there were six adolescents who were obtained based on the initial screening, namely self-reporting through a pornography internet addiction questionnaire. The data were collected by in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Thematic analysis with NVivo 12 data management was used as the data analysis technique. The results show that adolescents experience changes in cognition and affection for sexual stimulation caused by the internet with pornographic content. The impact of cognition is shown from their obsessive-compulsive thoughts on sexual content. They always have the desire to see those photos or video over again, which lead them to sleep disorders due to visualizing scenes of sexual intercourse. The impact of affection can be seen from their desire to act in sexual activity, their being so passionate and pleased after seeing pornographic content, and their expectation to feel such immense affection. Furthermore, they might find difficulty in establishing interpersonal relationships with other people and tend to withdraw themselves from the social environment.

Abstract

The research aimed to examine the content validity and resilience scale reliability that was developed based on the theory of Reivich and Shatte. The measuring instrument consisted of 32 items which resulted from a modification of the instruments made by Reivich and Shatte. The instrument had seven aspects of resilience, namely emotion regulation, impulse control, optimism, causal analysis, empathy, self-efficacy, and reaching out. The research sample amounted to 150 respondents consisting of Islamic Boarding School students in Purworejo, Central Java, boys and girls aged 11-18 years. The items in the measuring instruments were analyzed using the Gregory formula with the help of Ms. Excel program; then, the Cronbach Alpha formula was analyzed using the SPSS program. Based on the analysis of content validity with two experts’ judgments and the validity index of 1, it means that the instrument’s validity is very high. As for the reliability test results, the value of Cronbach’s Alpha item resilience scale is 0,753. This shows that the resilience scale item has good reliability. Based on these data, resilience instruments can be said to be valid and reliable to measure the resilience of Islamic Boarding School students.
