Abstract

Indonesia legislation number 24 of 2007 at 55 concerning disaster management states that children (babies and toddlers) are a vulnerable group when a disaster occurs.1 Children are a vulnerable population and have special health problems that must be considered when a disaster occurs. One of them is the very limited availability of complementary foods (MP-ASI) and this condition will worsen the nutritional status of children in disaster areas.2,3,4 The provision of food menus for toddlers in natural disaster conditions is limited because public kitchen do not prepare special menu for toddlers so that children consume food that is also consumed by adults, including instant food. The availability of MP-ASI ingredient can be achieved from public kitchens with the help and cooperation of various parties including volunteers by setting up MP-ASI kitchen so that nutritional intake for toddlers is fulfilled in disaster conditions.5 This was a activities report on establishing MP-ASI in the disaster area, Malampah, Pasaman. It has been expected to be a reference for establishing MP-ASI kitchen in disaster area, as consideration in creating operational standards for establishing MP-ASI kitchen in disaster area, and assist in managing public MP-ASI kitchen in natural disaster area.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to map the distribution of the Aspartate 614 to Glycine (Asp614Gly) mutation in the spike protein of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) circulating in West Sumatra, to understand the extent of its spread within the local population. Methods: RNA samples were taken from 98 confirmed COVID-19 cases across various area in West Sumatra. Genetic amplification and next-generation sequencing (NGS) were performed to identify the presence of the Asp614Gly mutation. The frequency of mutations was analyzed using bioinformatics software. Results: Out of the 98 samples analyzed, approximately 97% exhibited the Asp614Gly mutation. The geographic distribution of this mutation showed significant variation among the districts of West Sumatra, with the highest prevalence in urban areas. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the Asp614Gly mutation is highly prevalent in West Sumatra. Associated with increased virus transmissibility, this mutation dominates the circulating virus strains in the region, highlighting the need for ongoing genetic surveillance to guide public health interventions and vaccination strategies.

Abstract

Stunting is a problem of chronic malnutrition which is caused by a lack of nutritional intake for a long time. One of the programs initiated by the BKKBN to reduce stunting rates is the Healthy Kitchen to Overcome Stunting (DASHAT) program. One of the DASHAT programs is providing local supplementary food to stunted toddlers. The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of DASHAT on weight gain and nutritional status of stunted toddlers during the program and after 3 months of completion of the program. This research uses a Quasy Experiment approach. The population in this study were all stunted toddlers who received the DASHAT program, while the sample in this study was 34 toddlers taken by random sampling in three areas of the South Padang District Health Center, Padang City. The results of this research show that the DASHAT program is effective in increasing the weight of toddlers with a p-value of 0.000 during the program and 0.048 after the program, but is not effective in changing nutritional status (TB/U) after the DASHAT program ends. Maximum monitoring is needed from various parties regarding stunting toddlers after the DASHAT program is completed.
