This research examines the intersection between Qur'anic interpretation and Javanese culture, focusing on K.H. Bisri Musthafa’s Tafsīr al-Ibrīz, a commentary written in Javanese using pegon script. The study employs an in-depth analytical approach, addressing two key aspects: the representation of verses concerning gender relations (men and women), and the dynamic interplay between the interpreter’s perspective and the Javanese cultural framework. As a library-based study, this research adopts a descriptive-analytical method, utilizing hermeneutic theory to analyze the triad of text, interpreter, and socio-cultural context. The findings reveal that al-Ibrīz positions men as the leaders of the household, asserting their authority over women, who are expected to submit to male guardianship. The commentary emphasizes biological determinism: men are portrayed as physically strong and resilient, thus assigned the role of providers and protectors, while women are associated with gentleness and confined to domestic spheres—summarized in the Javanese culture as macak (grooming), masak (cooking), and manak (childbearing). Additionally, the interpretation highlights women’s reproductive functions, including menstruation, menopause, and breastfeeding obligations. The analysis confirms a cultural-textual synergy: the interpreter’s model aligns with traditional Javanese patriarchy, where men dominate household governance, and women occupy a subordinate position. This study examines the challenges in maintaining the authenticity of qirā’āt sab’ah in the face of technological advances, focusing on the credibility of the sanad and the originality of the readings. Using qualitative methods, this study compares the application of the musyāfahah method in Al-Hasan Tahfīz Quran Islamic Boarding School, Ponorogo, and Al-Munawwir Tahfīz Quran Islamic Boarding School, Krapyak, Yogyakarta, through interviews with informants, observation, and documentation. The findings of this study revealed three important things: (1) both Boarding Schools have the same qirā’āt sab’ah sanad lineage, which is supported by a syahādah (certificate); (2) Al-Munawwir Boarding School emphasizes credibility and originality through strict standardization, while Al-Hasan Boarding School adopts a more practical and inclusive approach; and (3) the transformation of Al-Hasan Boarding School promotes broader participation, increasing the number of students, while Al-Munawwir Boarding School focuses on cognitive depth through classical musyāfahah phases. This study examines the distinctive approach to determining the Hijri calendar (particularly for Ramadan, Shawwal, and Dhu al-Hijjah) practiced by Al-Falah Ploso Kediri Islamic Boarding School, which frequently differs from both government rulings and Nahdlatul Ulama's positions. Employing empirical research methods through structured interviews with key informants, the investigation pursues two primary objectives: first, to analyze the methodological framework employed by Al-Falah in establishing the Hijri calendar; and second, to evaluate this practice through astronomical and phenomenological lenses. The findings reveal that while Al-Falah utilizes multiple calculation methods, its primary reference is the Sullam al-Nayyiroin system, employing a lunar altitude criterion of 2 degrees. Astronomically, this approach falls under the category of hisāb taqrībi (approximate calculation), which demonstrates limited accuracy in light of contemporary astronomical advancements. Phenomenologically, the boarding school's adherence to this traditional method serves to preserve the institutional sanad (chain of transmission) established by its founders, maintaining both scholarly continuity and practical application. This practice holds particular significance for the school's students, alumni, and affiliated communities, while other segments of the population follow government determinations due to limited understanding of the technical considerations. The study highlights the complex interplay between traditional Islamic scholarship, astronomical precision, and community dynamics in contemporary Hijri calendar determination, offering insights into the ongoing discourse surrounding Islamic timekeeping methodologies. This study employs a bibliometric approach to analyze publication trends, research patterns, and collaboration networks in the field of digital da’wah (Islamic digital preaching) within Islamic studies. Using data extracted from the Dimensions database and visualized through VOSviewer, the research identifies significant developments in this domain. Findings reveal a marked increase in digital da’wah research in recent years, reflected by growing publication outputs and participation from diverse institutions and scholars worldwide. However, the analysis indicates limited collaborative networks among researchers, highlighting the need for stronger interdisciplinary and cross-regional partnerships. Key themes emerging from the literature include digital communication strategies, the role of social media in da’wah, and the opportunities and challenges of preaching in the digital era. This study maps the current landscape of digital da’wah research and suggests future directions, such as broader data coverage and deeper methodological exploration. The findings provide valuable insights for scholars and practitioners working at the dynamic intersection of Islamic propagation and evolving communication technologies. This research aims to analyze the relationship between gender and the development of Islam on Ay Island, Banda Neira, from a socio-religious perspective. The main focus of this research is the role of men and women in religious life, Islamic education, and their involvement in socio-religious practices. This research uses a quantitative method with a correlational approach. Data were obtained through surveys, interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis of the history of Islamic development on Ay Island. The results show that there are differences in participation between men and women in various socio-religious aspects. In religious leadership, 85% of formal positions are still dominated by men, while women are more active in informal Islamic education such as pengajian and madrasah, with 72% of community-based activities managed by women. However, only 35% of women hold leadership positions in formal socio-religious organizations. In addition, 64% of women feel they have limited access to large-scale religious activities, although 78% of communities have shown increased acceptance of women's active role in socio-religious activities. The implications of this study show that although Islam on Ay Island provides space for women's participation, there are still gaps in access and formal leadership. Therefore, efforts are needed to increase women's involvement in wider religious activities through more inclusive policies and strengthening women's capacity in leadership. The results of this study contribute to the understanding of gender dynamics in coastal Muslim communities and provide insights for academics and policy makers in developing Islam-based gender empowerment strategies. The research aims to examine the role of Islamic matchmaking applications—Taaruf ID, Salams, and Hawaya—in promoting Islamic marriage ethics and serving as a medium for digital da’wah. The rapid development of digital technology has transformed various aspects of human life, including how Muslims approach marriage. This study explores how these platforms align with the Islamic principles of ta’aruf while integrating modern technological advancements. Using a qualitative approach, the research analyzes user experiences, platform features, and Islamic ethical frameworks to assess the extent to which these applications facilitate halal relationships. Findings indicate that these apps offer an alternative to conventional matchmaking methods while maintaining Islamic values. However, challenges such as commercialization, user authenticity, and religious adherence persist. This study contributes to discussions on digital ta’aruf, the intersection of technology and religion, and the evolving landscape of Muslim courtship in the digital era. This research aims to discover the dynamics of the Maulid Nabi tradition, reconstruction, and analysis of the phenomenology of the reconstruction of the Maulid Nabi tradition in Palembang Malay Society. This study uses a reformistic typology (renewal) with a phenomenologically reconstructive approach assisted by anthropology and history””data collection by in-depth interviews and observation. The results of the study show that there are five variants in the implementation of the Maulid Nabi tradition. First, the annual tradition of not reading the Mawlid book. Second, the annual tradition of reading the Maulid book. Third, Maulid Arbain and Isyrin. Fourth, Mawlid Twelve Nights of Mawlid. Fifth, as a weekly wirid. Even though it is done differently, the substance shows love for the Prophet Muhammad. Reconstruction was carried out in the five variants. The Maulid Nabi tradition is an established tradition carried out from generation to generation while maintaining character and characteristics in terms of objectives, intentions or motivations, values, theological foundations, the position of the Prophet as uswatun hasanah, recitation of blessings and mahal al-qiyÄm. Reconstruction of the Maulid Nabi tradition in the Palembang Malay community carries a theological meaning. The Palembang Malay community must be reintroduced to sunnatullah theology. Second, social, which includes aspects of togetherness. Third, psychology is evident at the time of expensive al-qiyÄm. The congregation must understand the meaning in aspects related to the Mawlid tradition rationally, not only in the physical meaning.

The research aims to explain why social media can lead to divorce in Gorontalo Religious Court. This study constitutes empirical research (field research). The research was meticulously conducted through direct fieldwork. The approach employed in this study is a social approach. The researcher directly investigates and deeply describes the commitment of married couples in household life and the influence of social media. To obtain valid data, the researcher used observation techniques for data collection. The researcher observed within the scope of scientific activities during the observation activities. In this case, the researcher observed 10 pairs of Muslim families in the city of Gorontalo, focusing on how the commitment of Gorontalo Muslim families has shifted. The number of respondents interviewed by the researcher was approximately 10 Muslim families, consisting of 5 husbands and 5 wives each. Finally, Documentation collected data from Gorontalo Religious Court judgments on divorces during 2021. Results of the research found that social media has an impact on two things, namely: 1) the fragility of Gorontalo Muslim family commitments due to tolerance of extramarital behavior in Gorontalo Muslim families, and 2) a shift in divorce orientation among Gorontalo Muslim families, where about 13.8% of divorce cases are caused by infidelity through social media.

The transformation of Java into a stronghold of Islam can be attributed to the emergence and evolution of Islamic boarding schools, which played a crucial role in disseminating the religion across the region. Initially rooted in the assimilation of the elitist Hindu-Javanese mandala educational model. Throughout their evolution, Islamic boarding schools were instrumental in shaping Islamic politics, particularly during the Sultanate of Demak to Pajang. The influential Walisanga, also known as Kyai of the pesantren, served as pillars in teaching, fighting, and sustaining the sultanates. A qualitative historical research approach using literary sources delves into the factors behind Mataram's diminishing support for the political role of the santri, Sultan Agung's subsequent actions, and the resulting impacts. The study concludes that the King of Mataram perceived the political influence of Islamic boarding schools, especially the former Walisanga Islamic boarding school, as an obstacle to absolute authoritarianism. Sultan Agung's ambition to become the sole ruler comparable to the greatness of Majapahit was hindered. Following the collapse of the political role of Islamic boarding schools, Sultan Agung asserted himself as Agung Binathara, reinforcing acculturative Islamic culture through the Islamic-Javanese calendar and traditions. The aftermath included authorities' arrogance towards Islamic boarding schools, leading Amangkurat I to replace Sultan Agung through the arbitrary slaughter of Kyai and santri. Additionally, this era gave rise to Islamic-Javanese syncretic traditions at the Mataram Palace, encompassing the garbage ceremony, bedoyo tawang dance, belief in the supernatural powers of heirlooms, and the Kejawen concept, embodying Javanese-Islamic syncretism.

This study examines the contemporary dynamics of the relationship between the Council of Indonesian Ulama (Majelis Ulama Indonesia/MUI) and the Indonesian government. As far as the MUI is concerned, the council has experienced a changing position concerning the Indonesian state relationship, from being the custodian of the government (khÄdim al-á¸¥ukÅ«ma) to the custodian of the Indonesian Muslim community (khÄdim al-umma). This changing position appears mainly through MUI legal opinion (fatwÄs). Considering the current situation in Indonesia, where the Covid-19 pandemic has stormed, this article analyzes the relationship between MUI and the government. It examines MUI's fatwÄs issued during the pandemic, especially those related to public worship, economy, and health. This article argues that MUI's related fatwÄs on Covid-19 indicate a new turnback with MUI and the Indonesian state relationship. The fatwas show a strong direction that MUI leads to the position of khÄdim al-á¸¥ukÅ«ma rather than khÄdim al-umma.
