Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the observation activity, to ask, to try, to analyze, and to communicate with the theme Always Save the Energy using scientific learning approach in elementary school. This is qualitative research. The object was purposively in SDN 4 Penyangkringan Kecamatan Weleri Kabupaten Kendal. Data collection was taken by observation, interview, and documentation. Data analysis was done by data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Triangulation was done to get the data validity. The result of the research shows that the scientific approach in the Always Save the Energy theme uses observation, asking the question, and collecting information in the learning activity. The observation activity done by the student is observing pictures in books and LCD, observing video prepared by the teacher, observing the realia, and observing the teacher’s explanation. The asking activity is; asking and giving answers between teachers and students after they observed and listened to the teacher’s explanation. The experiment activity was in the group, to prove about the evaporation liquid by sunlight, practicing a song notation, corn planting, making windmill from used drinking bottle, telling the experiment of the use of electricity, and drawing pictures of saving the fossil oil. The analysis and communication are done by students to analyze the result of the experiment. The communication activity was done both in individuals and the group.

Abstract

The process of increasing of motor skills can be done with finger painting activities. The importance of finger painting activities on the development of fine motor and gross motor skills can help improve children's creativity and art. Finger painting in school is drawing activities by using fingertips and colour pulp directly to darwing media. The purpose of the study is to analyze the development of gross motor and fine motor skills in finger painting activities. This research uses qualitative research methods. The approach model used is a case study with 37 childrens of St. Arnoldus Yanssen and Aegela kindergartens the source of research data were, head of kindergarten. Teachers and parents. Data collection techniques are observation, interview, documentation. The criteria used in the research are underdeveloped (UD), beginning to develop (BD), very well developed (VD), and develop as expected (DE) according to Permendikbud about National Standards For Early Childhood Education. Data obtained from kindergarten Arnold Yanssen show that indicators using the right and left hand tendto lead criteria beginning to develop (BD). Data obtained from samples at the Aegela Kindergarten show the highest level of achievement is beginning to develop (BD) in skilled indicators using the right hand and left hand while for the underveloped achievement (UD) the highest in drawing indicators according to his ideas and doing detailed body movements . The results of this study are gross motor development and fine motor development of children in two kindergatens tend to lead to the criteria of beginning to develop for gross motor on the indicator using the right hand and left hand, while fine motor on the indicator self expression through drawing motion. Teachers in kindergarten need to increase knowledge about the development of children's gross motor and fine motor skills, as well as finger painting. It is intended that the teacher can see the full development of the child according to age and then give the children the right stimulus.

Abstract

21st century needs human resources that have an adequate ability to face the global era. This ability can trained at the education stage by using a good method in learning, discovery learning can be choices to release that. This study's aim is to analyze the effect of learning with discovery models on 21st-century skills for elementary school students. This study uses experimental research. Experimental research method is a research conducted on variables for which data are not yet available that it needs to be manipulated through the treatment of research subjects in which the impact is measured. Results of the creative thinking skills gain test showed the average value of the experimental class was 0.72 while the average value of the control class was 0,39. This shows the discovery model gives more influence on the student’s skills to think creatively. Results of the critical thinking skills gain test showed the average value of the experimental class was 0.78 while the average value of the control class was 0.60. This shows the discovery model gives more influence on the student’s skills to think critically. The results of communication skills test showed a significance value of 0.82. This value is higher than 0.05, it means that students communication skills with the discovery model are not higher than group of students that learning with the expository model. The result of collaboration skills showed a significance value of 0.91. This value is greater than 0.05, it’s means that the collaboration skills of students with discovery models are not higher than those of students who learn with expository models. This research is expected to be a reference for teachers in using learning models when teaching.

Abstract

The 4Cs in 21st century skills consist of critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration. The skills are very importance in solving problem should be owned by students to face current century global advancement. This research aims to describe problem solving skill pattern of students based on cognitive style after being taught by Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with Ethnomathematics nuances. This mixed method research used sequential explanatory design. The qualitative research part was conducted first and then continued by quantitative research part. The qualitative research used technic and source triangulation. This study consisted of 23 subjects. They were selected based cognitive style test by using Matching Familiar Figure Test (MFFT) at fifth grade of Public Primary School Citimun I, Sumedang. Techniques of collecting data were observation, test, interview, and documentation. Reflective and Impulsive students could understand problems, design solution, and promote problem solving although they were incapable of accurately rechecking. Slow-Inaccurate students could understand problems but they were incapable to plan solution and solve problem. They also could not do rechecking accurately. It could be concluded that Reflective - Impulsive cognitive style typed students had more dominant in problem solving skill than Slow-Inaccurate cognitive typed students. Thus, PBL model with ethomathematics nuances can improve students' problem solving skills.

Abstract

2013 curriculum regulates learning to be adjusted to surrounding living environment of students. Therefore, thematic Textbook with local wisdom insight should be developed by providing contextual examples. This research aims to develop thematic Textbook with local wisdom insight oriented to science literacy and environmental care characteristics. This mixed method research used explanatory design. The quantitative data was analyzed by pre-experiment typed one shot case study. The qualitative data was analyzed by flow analysis, consisting of reduction, presentation, and conclusion of the data. The data collection was done by interview, questionnaire, and test. The findings were, an interesting thematic Textbook with local wisdom insight to be learned by students since it provides contextual and detailed examples based on the materials and learning by using thematic Textbook with local wisdom insight could improve learning outcome as proven by t test. It showed tcount > ttable 5.661 > 1.67469. Thus a thematic teaching book with insightful local wisdom can be interesting to use in learning. The learning book have valuable benefit to introduces, students to the natural potential in its environment.

Abstract

MMathematical connections ability is a demand in mathematics education to develop mathematical ideas and problem-solving in one another. This study aims to find mathematical connection ability patterns in terms of self-concept. The research method used is mixed methods with concurrent embedded design, quantitative research analysis using true experimental design, while qualitative research analysis uses the Miles and Huberman model. The population in this study was eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 13 Semarang, Indonesia, and sampling was done by random sampling technique. The results showed that the mathematical connection ability pattern in terms of mathematical self-concepts is diverse. It is found that there were two patterns of mathematical connection ability in subjects with high self-concept. In subjects with moderate self-concept, three patterns of mathematical connection ability subjects with low self-concept, three patterns of mathematical connection ability are found

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the effectiveness of students worksheet to improve of critical thinking ability of fourth grade student’s of SD N 5 Parakan Kauman based on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and local wisdom. This research adopt the procedure of research and development that oriented in 4D model (Define, Design, Developed, and Disseminate). The research design used was one groups pretest-posttest design with the member of subject were 24 students. The research instrument used observation sheet, interview sheet, validity test, written test (pretest and posttest), and also questionnaire. The result of the research showed that students worksheet included in the effective enough category, which based on the calculation of N-Gain score was 62.7809 or 62.8 %, with a minimum score is 57.14 % and a maximum score 66.67 %. These scores showed the improvement of student thinking in solving problem aspect, with good and very good categories. The result of the teacher respondent is 67, it is in interesting category and the student respondent got 84 in average score, it is in very interesting category. It can be concluded that the implementation of student worksheet in STEM basic and local wisdom can be implemented in teaching learning activities, it also improve the ability of students’ critical thinking.

Abstract

At present, there is still a lack of teaching materials in Elementary Schools, specifically science that is suitable to the needs of students and encourages students to care about their environment. The purpose of this study is to develop a Natural Sciences module with the STSE (Science, Technology, Society, Environment) approach to strengthen cognitive learning outcomes in Elementary Schools. The method used is the research development of the modified Borg and Gall model, namely preliminary studies, development stages, and evaluation stages. The research subjects were grade IV students, Public Elementary School Kangkung 1 Mranggen. Data collection instruments used were observation sheets, tests, questionnaires, and documentation. Analysis of research with t-test and n-gain test to determine the comparison of modules, as well as improvement of learning outcomes. The results of the study that the Natural Sciences module, with the STSE approach, is valid for use. The results of trials with the t-test show the difference between the use of modules and student books, N-gain module usage scores 0.723 with a very high category. The practicality test shows a practical module so that students and teachers can accept it. The Science Module STSE approach can be used as a substitute for teaching material on the theme of the environment around Grade IV Elementary School.

Abstract

Early childhood education is essentially education that is held to facilitate the growth and development of children as a whole or emphasize the development of all aspects of the child's personality, especially interpersonal aspects. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of ice breaking on the interpersonal development of early childhood. This study was used a quantitative approach or quasi-experimental research designs. The data collection method was used observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques was used the t-test with the help of SPSS 23.0 for windows. The results showed that there were differences in interpersonal abilities of young children before and after ice-breaking activities. The pretest value of interpersonal aspects of early childhood in the control and the experimental class has a probability value of 0.000 > 0.05. While the post - test interpersonal aspects of early childhood in the control class and the experimental class have a probability value of 0.000 < 0.05. Increased interpersonal aspects of early childhood before and after the ice-breaking activity around of 72.34%. It was concluded that the hypothesis was accepted that there was a significant increase in the development of interpersonal aspects of the age of 5-6 years through ice-breaking activities.

Abstract

The process of singing is related to the social process of the child's emotions with the environment, and the social process of emotions involves changes in one's relationships with others, changes in emotions and personalities. This research aims to analyze the singing expression of children in the teaching and learning process at Tarbiyatul Athfal Kindergarten, Krapyak, Jepara. The subjects consisted of early childhood students in Class B or within 5-6-year-old age interval at Tarbiyatul Athfal Kindergarten by taking 3 classes in which each of them represented by 3 students of each category. Thus, there were 9 students taken as the subjects. The research methodology was a qualitative approach. Examine the child's expression when singing in the learning process, how the teacher's role in leading and directing the learning process and see how the child's expression is produced from singing. The findings concerning the singing expression of the children were each child had different expressions while singing. Each expression showed different socio-emotional attitudes. Some students indifferently accepted the song as learning media. Thus, they seemed sufficiently active in learning. In contrast, children were not interested in the song. It showed that children were less active in receiving a lesson from the teacher. The research conclusion shows three student categories in learning. They are (1) active students in learning when singing activities that children are always cheerful, excited and complete their assignments according with their teacher?s directions (2) sufficiently active students, the children are less cheerful and excited, their body?s movement is very limited, so it can affect in their enthusiasm to complete the assignments, (3) less active students in learning, children are not at all interested in the songs provided, they have their world that they like. The research benefits are as reference for further researchers to find out student categories in learning which is adjusted to the obtained expression while singing and having socio-emotional attitudes obtained from the activity.
