Abstract

The background of this study refers to the need for a learning environment that supports children's holistic development in accordance with Montessori principles. This research was motivated by the need to design optimal Montessori shelf in Graha Ananda Kindergarten, West Bandung Regency, as an important part of applying the Montessori approach in early childhood education. The urgency of this research is related to the critical role of Montessori shelf prototype in creating learning environments that support children's creativity and independence. The purpose of the study was to explore the visual aspects of Montessori shelf prototype, especially through the application of curve or wave variations on the side wooden structure. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach, digging in-depth information related to the experiences and perceptions of Montessori shelf users at Graha Ananda Kindergarten. Data collection techniques include interviews and field surveys, while data analysis uses a descriptive approach to detail the visual elements and effectiveness of shelf design. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the improvement of Montessori shelf prototype, improve the quality of learning, and become a reference for similar educational institutions in applying Montessori principles in an early childhood environment. The results of this research indicate that the curved shelf design not only enhances aesthetics but also increases children's engagement and independence, aligning well with Montessori principles.

Abstract

This study examines the development of visual identity in Bandung's creative industry during the COVID-19 pandemic (2019–2023), focusing on the portfolios of Monoponik Studio, Pikir Mikir Studio, and Dassein Design Bureau. Using a qualitative approach, the research analyzes key visual identity elements—logotype, symbol, color, and typeface—to highlight design trends and their adaptation to pandemic-driven challenges. Findings reveal a shift toward minimalist styles, high-contrast colors, and designs optimized for digital and print platforms, with the food and beverage sector being the most active. Emotional resonance, scalability, and local branding emerged as crucial strategies during this period. This study differs from previous ones in that it examines real-world examples from design studios in Bandung during the COVID-19 pandemic. By focusing on this time and place, it shows how visual identity changed in response to real-world challenges. This makes the study useful for designers and researchers who want to understand how design adapts during difficult times.

Abstract

This article explores the creation of craft techniques through the process using coconut fiber composites as a medium for arts and crafts. The study highlights the outer casting composite technique, coconut fiber processing techniques using hand skills which are the result of practical exploration by the author’s to create three-dimensional objects made from coconut fiber composites, hopefully this technique can be applied and developed further as an innovation for arts and crafts techniques using the cocopeat as medium. This technique combines the putty technique which is generally used in wood medium with the basic paper fingers pressing technique in papier mache, and then the technique applied to the coconut fiber composite. The research uses qualitative methods and practice led research, the author’s completed the research with the documents and data on creative activity processes such as exploration of the medium, techniques, theories and contextualization. The outer casting composite technique will cover several stages, starting from material preparation, making the composite dough, sticking the dough to the casting, putty and sanding, and finally coating or finishing the composite materials. The outcome of this research is the innovation of craft techniques using coconut fiber composite material which is applied for the making of a lampshade with the presenting data in the form of a documentation process.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

As a country rich in natural and human resources, Indonesia has the potential to develop artisanal fashion. Hand skills and mastery of traditional techniques originating from various local wisdom in Indonesia are some supporting factors for developing local artisan products. Since ancient times, people in Indonesia have used production aspects involving artisan hand skills to make functional, commercial, and non-commercial products. Artisanal fashion is considered by many as a sustainable approach in the fashion industry due to its ethical and low environmental impact. However, the study of artisan fashion products has not been widely discussed in the academic realm. This study focuses on understanding artisan fashion products through local fashion brand Meraki Studios case studies. The approach used in this research is descriptive qualitative, which is done by collecting data through observations, interviews, and literature studies regarding the meaning of artisanal fashion, the practice of artisanal fashion, and how Meraki Studios' practice in artisanal fashion is applied in their design and production process.
