Abstract

An examination is the only way to best measure, recognize and document the performance of learning. In the opinion of Funk et. al. (2020: 3), a new textbook implements the requirements of the expanded Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages. This shows that knowledge of the assessment criteria, as well as skills in applying them, are very important for examiners to be able to make an accurate assessment of the following elements: (1) content; (2) expression, fluency; (3) vocabulary, socio-cultural aspects; (4) aspects of syntax, grammar; and (5) phonetic aspects. It is therefore very important for one to have knowledge of the rules and regulations regarding the assessment criteria required to administer the CERF-based speaking proficiency exam.

A textbook plays a very crucial role in foreign language teaching. On the one hand, it deals with linguistic and cultural phenomena; Moreover, it controls the whole learning process for a certain period of time. This research focuses on the main learning materials and media used by lecturers and students of German Department at STBA YAPARI. The purpose of the study is to find a suitable textbook for them. In order to reach the goal of the investigation, this study uses the theoretical foundations of Rösler & Würffel (2014: 17-32) on the analysis of learning materials and media in a form of the textbook analysis method, namely the analysis of "Studio d" and "Netzwerk" A1-B1. The results of the study show that the new textbook has some advantages over the old one if the two textbooks consider (1) the components and their functions, (2) the internal structure, and (3) the language level Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) of textbooks. The importance of this research is that the plan for the renewal of learning materials and media should be implemented in the German Department in the 2018/2019 academic year. Another investigation can be done in the form of an evaluation of the implementation of learning materials and media in the classroom in the 2018/2019 academic year.

Abstract

Research on Japanese pronunciation skills for Indonesian students is important. This research describes the student’s ability to listen to Japanese pronunciation / Hatsuon using dictation techniques and responses to dictation techniques in learning Japanese pronunciation. This research method uses a descriptive qualitative research instrument in the form of a questionnaire. The respondents in this study were students of the Japanese Language Education study program at the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, as many as 15 people who had Japanese language skills equivalent to N5. This research showed that almost all students tend to easily listen to long vowels and double consonants and distinguish sounds in the lines SA and SHA and JA and ZA. However, the TSU consonants at the beginning of the word are pretty challenging to catch appropriately. Then from the results of the questionnaire distribution, it can be seen that students think that the dictation technique is an excellent alternative to studying Japanese pronunciation.

Abstract

The emergence of Japanese restaurants in Indonesia, including franchise networks, companies with foreign and domestic capital, demonstrates that Japanese food is being globalized. Globalization makes it easier for outside culture to infiltrate local life. Events in other worlds can easily be imitated by other parts, resulting in homogeneity in every community's life. Local elements must emerge as markers or characteristics of a specific area as homogeneity is strengthened. Glocalization is the concept of combining global and local cultures. Cultures from outside are then adapted to local culture, resulting in hybridity or unification of the local and the global. Two levels of analysis will be used in researching the glocalization of Japanese franchise restaurant sign boards in Denpasar: the language code type stage and the psychological stage. A descriptive qualitative research method was employed. According to the findings of the analysis, the process of glocalization on the nameplates of Japanese franchise restaurants in Indonesia is carried out by 'transliterating,' or changing the writing from Japanese to Latin letters. Some restaurants include words or sentences that help locals identify the restaurant's characteristics. Regardless, glocalization is done to attract Indonesian consumers.
