<![CDATA[This study focuses on figurative found in popular songs of Secondhand Serenade, they are "Broken", "A twist in my story" and "I hate this song". The data were taken from the three songs of Secondhand Serenade which consist of many types of figurative language by using Perrine’s (1992) theory. The descriptive method was applied in this research, the data source from the research is song lyrics from the three songs of Secondhand Serenade. The writer found 17 sentences containing figurative languages in Secondhand Serenade's songs. All of these terms are divided into six categories, They are, hyperbole, personification, metonymy, simile, apostrophe, and symbol. The writer more often found types of figurative language that contain hyperbole. Nine sentences are almost found in every song from the three songs of Secondhand Serenade. By reading this study, the writer hopes this research could give more understanding in the analysis of figurative language to the reader. The writer hopes this paper inspires all students who want to research in the same field. This study shows to the reader types of figurative language found in popular songs of Secondhand Serenade.]]>

<![CDATA[A dialect shows its culture. Many aspects can be found in a dialect. The distinctive dialects that are spread across Indonesia are very diverse and should be explored to be publicized. One of those can be found in Srinahan Society. The objectives of this study are to find out what aspects found in the distinctive dialect of Srinahan society and what factors influence them. The study was conducted using descriptive qualitative research. The aspects that can be found are phonological, lexical and morphological. The results of this study show that; (1) local villagers who used to be majority farmers (did not like transmigration) and some created their own words for certain vocabulary, (2) the boundary of the area, surrounded by a long and wide river that could maintain the purity of the local dialect from intruders/new comers. (3) Dutch influence. Srinahan which is located between the area of the users of the eastern dialect of Javanese and the western Javanese dialect result in some distinctive linguistics aspects. The distinctive dialect that is used by Srinahan society is portraits of word variations that arise by the speakers, its local philosophy and its culture.]]>

<![CDATA[This research aims to investigate how identities are constructed and represented in Rurounin Kenshin (1996). By referring to Foucauldian approach, its believed that identities were formed and defined by contestation of discourses which is entailed by social and cultural values. Since comic has been a material object of this study, Pierce semiotic methods have been used to explore how identities represented by symbol, icon, or index in virtual media. Based on this theory and methodological approach, this research found that discourse of modernity and tradition have constructed an identity which represented by idea, fashion, and technology.]]>

<![CDATA[As a feature of translation, the concept of equivalence is a crucial issue which have to be considered by the translator. Equivalence is a term proposed by Baker (1992) for gaining the equal meaning between the source text and the target text. In translating the source text, some non-equivalence problems happen since several source language has unequal meaning with the target language. Objective of the Paper. This paper aims to identify, describe, and explain some problems of non-equivalence problem at word level and strategies dealing with it. Method. By using Baker’s theory (1992), the song lyric of both English and Indonesian version entitled Lead the Way (sung by Jhené Aiko) and Kita Bisa (sung by Via Vallen) are analyzed. Findings. The findings show that translation by omission is highly applied in translating the lyric followed by a varied occurrence of other strategies. Conclusion. The variation of the strategies is used in order to make a “singable” song. Finally, this paper provides suggestions that a study of the translation of song lyrics combining translation theory and interpersonal meaning of SFL for giving a better understanding is needed to be done for giving a broader understanding towards the text.]]>

<![CDATA[TThe theory of hierarchy of needs developed by Abraham Harold Maslow consists offve levels of needs, namely at the lowest level of physiological needs, the second levelof safety needs, the third level of love and belonging needs, the fourth level of esteemneeds and the highest need is the need for self-actualization. Maslow describes humansas creatures that have never been in a state of satisfaction. If a need has been satisfed,then other needs will appear demanding satisfaction, and so on. This study analyzes themain character, Yossarian, in Joseph Heller's Catch-22 novel, which is then related tothe hierarchy of Yossarian needs. From the results of the analysis it can be seen thatphysiological needs can be met properly, while the needs for safety are not at all obtainedby Yossarian. As a result of not meeting the needs of the second level, the needs of thethird to ffth level cannot be fulflled properly]]>

<![CDATA[This study discusses the relationship between the meaning of kanji 金 (kin), 貨 (ka), 銭 (sen) in the kanji jukugo which has the meaning of money in Indonesian. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The researcher uses this method because basically this research is a qualitative research. In addition, this method is also considered appropriate enough to approach the problem to be studied. The technique that will be carried out in collecting data in this research is conducting a literature study. The data analysis technique used is describing each kanji vocabulary contained kanji 金 (kin), 貨 (ka), 銭 (sen) then analyzing how the relationship between the meaning of kanji’s foms, then analysing into a table that illustrates the meaning of each starch based on the form original from the vocabulary of the kanji contained kanji 金 (kin), 貨 (ka), 銭 (sen) which shows the meaning of money. This study has including that each kanji can show the function and structure of the meaning of the money shown, and from the translation of the kanji based on the meaning of the author's relationship can know the meaning of words based on the pattern and meaning of the kanji Jukugo’s forms.]]>

<![CDATA[This research would focus on studying of Jambi Malay Culture from the point of view baju kurung as the traditional clothing of Jambi Malay women. By using qualitative research methods with a historical approach, this study aimed to determine the history and meaning of the philosophical values of baju kurung with its development ethically and aesthetically as the traditional clothing of Jambi Malay women. The benefits of this research were expected to become an inventory of Jambi Malay culture in the scientific studies. In the background of the diversity of natural and cultural wealth owned by Jambi province, there were many kinds of values of beauty, philosophy and cultural ethical and aesthetic values, one of them was an aesthetics in clothing which was important part of traditional Jambi Malay women's clothing. Baju kurung as a symbol of Jambi Malay Muslimah women have a philosophical meaning that was closely related to traditional and Islamic customs. The entry of Islam in the land of Malay Jambi influenced the concept of dressing up in Jambi's Malay women. It can be concluded that baju kurung was a reflection of the identity of Muslimah women in Jambi, according to Islamic law, which is described in the seloko of custom Jambi "adat bersendi syara’, syara’ bersendi kitabullah. Syara’ mangato, adat memakai. " The seloko of custom Jambi has become a philosophical value in the art of dressing Jambi Malay women which has the uniqueness of ethical and aesthetic values without reducing the elegance of Jambi Malay women.]]>

<![CDATA[This research is about orientational metaphor in Bulletin Halo Jepang. According to Lakoff and Johson (1980) orientational metaphor is one of parts from conceptual theory. The source of data is Bulletin Halo Jepang edition in July and August 2017. This research used qualitative method and descriptive analysis to analyse the data. The aim is to describe all concepts of source domain (B) and target domain (A) that expressed temporarily. It is showed with up and down level, inside and outside, front and backward, open and close, deep and short. The total of data is 10 sentences with orientational metaphor. The result showed that 2 data of down, 4 data of up, 1 data of front, 1 data of outside and 2 data of deep.]]>

<![CDATA[Since being introduced by the Minister of Education and Culture, the Kurikululm Merdeka dan Merdeka Belajar program has become a trend at the higher education level in Indonesia. On the other hand, the trend of the industrial world today is starting to touch the virtual world with several systems. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation steps of Ciject-Bale as a creativity-based English learning method, the advantages of the Ciject-Bale method, and the effectiveness of this method in learning English. This research used descriptive qualitative and quantitative research methods with experimental research design. The results were the Ciject-Bale can be implemented through determining the theme and location, making the draft, doing a lot of practices, doing a live report, editing and uploading. Ciject-Bale has many advantages as an integrated English learning method and ICT. Through t-test analysis which showed that sig. (2-tailed) of all = 0.000 and the probability less than 0.05, Ciject-Bale was an effective method to be used in English learning. The conclusion was the learners will become young content creators in English by implementing this method and it needs more focus and high creativity. ]]>

<![CDATA[This study focuses on the development of instructional media using pictorial metaplan and provide eligibility assessment for the product. The use of pictorial metaplan media aims to increase interest in learning vocabulary as well as to directly apply of English speaking practice to students of 8th grade Junior High School. This type of research is using Research and Development method (R&D). Direct trials was conducted on 1 media expert, 4 teachers and 7 students from 8th grade Junior High School. The implementation of the use of pictorial metaplan to the subjects of this study used a combination of the Total Physical Response (TPR) and Student-Centered Learning (SCR) methods. The results of this study are indicated by the total score of the product eligibility assessment that were obtained from the total conversion of the assessment from media expert, teachers and students. The total score of the media experts was 106, which meant in ‘very eligible’ category, the total score of the teacher was 81.6, which meant ‘eligible’ category and the total score of the students was 92.2, which meant ‘eligible’ category. Based on the results, pictorial metaplan is eligible to be a teaching aid for learning English, especially in speaking competence.]]>
