The method used in this research is the research & development (R&D) method. The research was carried out in several stages such as preliminary, prototyping, expert validation, product trials taken from several samples, in order to design/application products that are ready to be used to help teachers and students in the distance learning. The design and materials of teaching materials are adjusted to the results of data collection at the preliminary stage. This android application was tested on students and teachers with satisfactory results above 70% because it is easy to use based on the results of the distributed questionnaire. The materials and exercises already represent the learning objectives in the curriculum regarding news items. The Covid-19 socialization integrated in the learning application is used as additional information for students to carry out strict health protocols. So that students know what actions need to be taken in their family, friendship, and social life to avoid Covid-19.

Abstract

Abstract In intercultural communications, we can anticipate the occurrence of unintended face-threatening acts (FTA) which leads to miscommunication. This study discusses the possible FTA by the speaker who does not intend to threaten the interlocutor’s positive and negative face by using one of the Japanese temporal adverbs, yatto. This adverb expresses the speaker’s evaluative meaning, is achieved through various obstacles and the effect takes a long time to achieve. In addition, the word yatto also implies an achievement that is attained by either barely sufficient abilities or because of an immediate deadline. Therefore, when being used to talk about the interlocutor's or the other person’s action, it can threaten his/her face. It is necessary to clarify the possibility of threatening other people's positive and negative faces even though it is unintentional because Japanese teachers and learners are mostly unaware of it. Many of them associate the word yatto as akhirnya in Bahasa Indonesia or finally in English, which does not contain the speaker’s evaluative meaning. Accordingly, the subject of this study is to clarify the conditions of use when the word yatto becomes an FTA. To clarify the problem, this study uses descriptive and qualitative methods and employs the theory of politeness, especially the theory of face-threatening acts (FTA) by Brown and Levinson (1987). Inspired by Kamio (1990)’s notion of the territory of information, there are three types of the territory of information for the yatto adverb; (a) the information that falls to the territory of the speaker, (b) to both of the speaker’s and the interlocutor’s or the other person’s, and (c) to the interlocutor. As the main finding of the research, the factor causing FTA for positive and negative faces, namely FTA which occurs when the speaker talks about the action, falls to (c) the third territory. In the case of the benefactive -tekureru or -temorau forms used together, the meaning appreciating the actions of the interlocutor or the third person, it works as positive politeness to them as an agent. On the contrary, expressing thanks threaten the speaker's negative face.

Abstract

The golden period is believed to be the most important period in the growth and development of children in which the brain is developed maximally. Early detection is needed to know the children’s competence and with accurate stimulation, this period can be optimized. Multilanguage stimulation is regarded to be one of the best stimulations to optimize language skills during the golden period. This study aims to find out how early detection and multilanguage stimulation can optimize the golden period. This study was descriptive qualitative research with 9 toddlers aged 1-5 years old and their mothers as the sample. The data were collected with Pre-screening Developmental Questionnaire (PDQ) to get the data of toddlers’ growth and development, and using a questionnaire to get the data of Multilanguage stimulation. From the study, it is found that most of the respondents (88.9%) have good development and only a respondent (11.1%) has a development defect. Whereas, in the multilanguage stimulation it is found that all respondents learned more than one language at the same time. However, most respondents only can use the second and third language little; they use it mix or switch with their mother tongue. They use code-mixing and code-switching with their mother tongue. It can be concluded that early detection is very important in stimulating children’s competence. The children’s language competence however is interfered with by several factors which one of which is accurate stimulation. Multilanguage stimulation will work well if there is a consistency of the surrounding in giving the stimulation.

Abstract

As prospective educators, students must have the competence to write good teaching materials. One indicator of good teaching materials is readability in accordance with the level of education of students. This study aims to determine the legibility of teaching materials by students using the Flesch Formula. The research method used is descriptive quantitative with instruments in the form of performance tests as a data collection tool. The results of this study indicate: (1) based on measurements using the Flesch Formula, 24% of teaching materials are in accordance with the specified readability level and 76% of teaching materials are not in accordance with the specified readability level; (2) A total of 17% of teaching materials are included in the category of moderately easy, 4% easy, 31% moderate, 24% quite difficult, 21% difficult, and 3% very difficult; and (3) other factors that cause incompatibility of teaching materials made by students are sentences that are too complex with the number only ranging from 2-7 sentences every 100 words. Therefore, prospective teachers should develop the skills of writing teaching materials well by practicing independently or under the guidance of the lecturer. Institutions can also make policies to deepen the writing of teaching materials for students in existing courses or insert new courses in the curriculum structure.
