Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder affecting 589 million people worldwide in 2024, including 11.3% in Indonesia. While nutrition counseling is a cornerstone of DM management, conventional media such as leaflets often fall short in improving dietary compliance. This study aims to analyze the comparative effectiveness of booklets versus leaflets in enhancing the knowledge of patients with Type 2 DM. This quasi-experimental study employed a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design at Nutrition Clinic of dr. H. Andi Abdurrahman Noor Regional General Hospital. The sample included 32 patients with T2DM. The variables assessed were nutrition counseling using leaflets and booklets, and patient knowledge. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney tests. The results showed a significant difference in knowledge before and after nutrition counseling using both leaflet and booklet (p=0.000). There was a significant difference in the average knowledge score between the leaflet and booklet groups (p=0.006), with the leaflet group increasing by 5.81, whereas the booklet group increased by 7.06. In conclusion, booklets were more effective in improving knowledge. DM patients are encouraged to use the booklet to enhance their understanding of the DM diet and support healthier daily eating habits.

Abstract

Adolescents are an age group vulnerable.to nutritional problems due to changes in lifestyle, diet, and physical activity. This study analyzed the relationship between physical activity, protein intake, and nutritional diversity with the nutritional status of adolescents at SMA PGRI 1 Sidoarjo. The study design used a cross-sectional approach with 120 students as respondents. Data collection used a structured questionnaire and SQ-FFQ, while nutritional status was determined based on BMI. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed that most adolescents had high physical activity (61.70%), adequate protein intake (47.50%), and diverse nutritional diversity (55.80%). The nutritional status of adolescents was mostly in the normal category (40.00%). The results of the Spearman correlation test showed that there was no relationship between physical activity and nutritional status (p value = 0.242; p > 0.05), there was a relationship between protein intake and nutritional status (p value = 0.024; p < 0.05), there was a relationship between nutritional diversity and nutritional status (p value = 0.000; p < 0.05). It can be concluded that the quality of food intake, especially protein and nutritional diversity in adolescent nutritional status is important.

Abstract

Clinical coding audits are necessary to review and analyze identified errors and to trace their sources by comparing the information produced by clinical coders with the data documented in patients’ medical records. Sultan Suriansyah Regional General Hospital Banjarmasin has never conducted a clinical coding audit. This study aimed to evaluate clinical coding audits using morbidity rules in inpatient medical records. This study employed a mixed-method approach with a quantitative design supported by qualitative data. A total of 99 inpatient medical record files were reviewed. The main informant was the inpatient coding officer, while triangulation informants included the inpatient BPJS doctor/verifier and the head of the medical records unit. Data were collected through observation and interviews using observation and interview guidelines, and analyzed using univariate analysis. The results of the study showed that, based on morbidity rules, the reliability of diagnosis coding was 91% consistent (90 medical records) and 9% inconsistent (9 medical records), mainly due to preliminary diagnoses that required supporting examinations to establish final diagnoses. Diagnosis completeness reached 100% (99 medical records), as completeness has been established as a standard. Coding accuracy was 93% accurate (92 medical records) and 7% inaccurate (7 medical records), primarily due to differences in ICD-10 code selection. Relevance of coding was 96% appropriate (95 medical records) and 4% inappropriate (4 medical records), which was influenced by the high workload of coding officers, leading to coding errors. In conclusion, clinical coding audits using morbidity rules at Sultan Suriansyah Regional General Hospital Banjarmasin revealed that several audit elements, particularly reliability, accuracy, and relevance, have not yet achieved optimal results.

Abstract

The acceleration of growth during adolescence must be accompanied by the provision of adequate nutrition. It was also necessary to monitore their nutritional status to prevent nutritional problem. This was more important to do in student who enrolled in boarding schools because it tend to be lacking in proving adequate food. This research aimed to determine the relationship between energy and macronutrient adequacy and the nutritional status of students at the Salafiyah Al-Amin Islamic Boarding School, Sleman, Yogyakarta. This research was a cross-sectional research design. All of population who met inclusion and exclusion criterias were invited as respondents (40 students). The BMI/A index was used to determine nutritional status, while the level of energy and macronutrient adequacy was determined by comparing nutrient intake from three 24-hour food recalls with AKG. Data was analysed using the Pearson test. The average of energy, protein, and fat adequacy of students was insufficient, which were 73,66%, ±11,54%, 70,82%, ±8,17%, and 79,96%, ±7,66%, respectively. In the other hand, the average of carbohydrate intake was sufficient, namely 81,63%, ±3,43%. The majority of students had normal nutritional status. The Pearson test results showed a correlation between the nutritional status and the levels of energy adequacy (p=0.023; r=0.359) and fat (p=0.023; r=0.358). In the other hand, the nutritional status of students was not correlated with the level of protein adequacy (p=0.101; r=0.263) and carbohydrates (p=0.185; r=0.185). This result emphasized the importance of providing adequate food in order to maintain students' nutritional status and health.

Abstract

Parenting goes beyond providing food; it involves psychosocial stimulation, which is crucial for a child's cognitive, physical, motor, and socio-emotional development. Parents often face various challenges during this process. In coastal areas, issues such as poor sanitation, limited food availability, and socio-economic factors can hinder the fulfillment of a toddler's nutritional needs, ultimately impacting their nutritional status. This study aims to determine the relationship between psychosocial parenting patterns and the nutritional status of toddlers in coastal areas. This is an analytical study using a cross-sectional approach. The subjects included parents of 200 toddlers aged 1–5 years, selected through proportional random sampling over a three-month period. Parenting styles were measured using the Parenting Style and Dimension Questionnaire (PSDQ), while children's nutritional status was determined using data from Maternal and Child Health (MCH) books. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test at a 95% confidence level. The results indicated a significant relationship between psychosocial parenting patterns and the nutritional status of toddlers in coastal areas (p = 0.035). Parenting patterns play a vital role in determining nutritional status, as they encompass how parents meet the nutritional, health, and emotional needs essential for a child's optimal growth and development.

Abstract

Background: Aging is a progressive biological process that affects the structure, function, and molecular regulation of the cardiovascular system. These changes increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and heart failure. Objective: This systematic review aims to summarize the structural, functional, and molecular changes associated with cardiovascular aging. Methods: A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. The keywords used were (“cardiac aging” OR “aging heart” OR “cardiovascular aging”) AND (“structural” OR “functional”). Articles were selected based on inclusion criteria: original research, written in English, and published between 2020 and 2025. Exclusion criteria: limited access, duplicate publications, and articles that did not meet the PICO framework. Results: The initial search identified 822 articles. A total of 487 were excluded due to being published more than 5 years ago, 3 due to language, 131 due to duplication, 118 due to irrelevant PICO criteria, 71 for not being original research, and 7 due to limited access. The final analysis included 5 articles. Findings indicated that cardiac aging is marked by structural and functional changes such as atrial dilation, reduced ventricular elasticity, and activation of senescence-associated genes. Techniques including CMR, micro-CT, RNA sequencing, iPSC-progeria models, and fractal analysis collectively demonstrated progressive changes from the anatomical to molecular level. Conclusion: Cardiovascular aging involves integrated changes in cardiac structure, function, and molecular regulation. The integration of imaging, molecular, and cellular approaches enables the identification of potential biomarkers and the development of more targeted interventions to slow cardiovascular aging in the elderly.

Abstract

Anemia remains a common health problem among female students, often associated with low hemoglobin levels due to inadequate iron intake and insufficient physical activity. Female students are a vulnerable group due to menstrual blood loss, irregular dietary patterns, and lifestyle changes. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between physical activity patterns and iron consumption patterns with hemoglobin levels among female students at Politeknik Bina Trada Semarang in 2025. This study used an analytic quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The population was all female students at Politeknik Bina Trada Semarang, with a sample of 43 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Inclusion criteria included active female students without diseases affecting hemoglobin levels, while exclusion criteria were those menstruating during data collection. Data were collected using questionnaires for physical activity and iron consumption patterns, and hemoglobin levels were measured using the CuSO? method. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that 58% of respondents had low hemoglobin levels. Most respondents had light physical activity (53.5%) and rarely consumed iron-rich foods (48.8%). Statistical analysis indicated no significant relationship between physical activity patterns and hemoglobin levels (p = 0.084), as well as between iron consumption patterns and hemoglobin levels (p = 0.373). There is no significant relationship between physical activity patterns and iron consumption patterns with hemoglobin levels among female students. However, both factors remain important in maintaining optimal health and preventing anemia.

Abstract

Blood component production is an act of separating donor blood components through certain methods into usable blood components, such as WB (Whole Blood), PRC (Packed Red Cells), FFP (Fresh Frozen Plasma), and TC (Thrombocyte Concentrate). The decline in blood component production requires optimal monitoring between blood stock availability and patient needs so as not to become an obstacle in the transfusion service process. This study aims to determine the description of blood component production at the PMI UDD in Bojonegoro, Trenggalek, and Jombang Regencies for the period of 2024. This study uses a quantitative descriptive design with secondary data sourced from SIMDONDAR. The study sample includes all blood component production at the PMI UDD in Bojonegoro, Trenggalek, and Jombang Regencies for the period of 2024. Using a total sampling technique. Data were recorded using a tally sheet instrument and analyzed using a percentage analysis technique. This study shows that the blood component production results at the PMI UDD in Bojonegoro, Trenggalek, and Jombang Regencies in 2024 were 31,707, 8,643, and 26,485 blood bags, respectively. Most of them produced PRC blood components, respectively, amounting to 22,745 (71.73%), 6,951 (80.42%), and 17,238 (65.09%) blood bags per year. Conclusion: PRC is the most produced blood component.
