Abstract

Abstract This study began on the basis of past events experienced by the Kerokhanian group in Malang City which were related to the dynamics of tyranny that occurred in their social life. This research aims to analyze how forms of tyranny relate to the social conditions of the spiritual group community in Malang City. For this reason, this research uses a qualitative methodology with an explanatory case study analysis method in studying the tyranny of the majority over minority rights. This research found a connection between the past life of the Kerokhanian group and the life they lead today. Regarding the fulfillment of rights and the impact on forms of tyranny from the majority. However, what is still a problem is that this form of tyranny has not completely disappeared and does not happen again after the legalization of the government. This research found that there was tyranny carried out by the majority group against the Kerokhanian group. The perceived tyranny can take the form of rejection by the majority or a form of bad stigma built by the majority group. However, the Kerokhanian group ignored this on the basis of their religious beliefs. In the end, this researcher's findings have the potential to develop a tyrannical process that has an impact on attitudes of inferiority both in institutions and culture and the implementation of rights should be expanded. Ultimately, tyranny should be seen as a form of inferiority towards individuals or groups so that not all tyranny can have a negative impact in every condition. Keywords: Groups, Inferiority, Fulfillment of Rights. Abstract

Regional Loans are an alternative funding instrument used by the Manggarai Regency government, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, to finance regional development. Political support and the interests of political parties can influence the negotiation process in obtaining legislative approval. This research aims to determine how regional loans work and analyse the relationship between the executive and legislature in the political discussion and approval process in formulating regional loans. This research uses a qualitative approach and qualitative descriptive method, collecting information through primary and secondary data and determining informants using purposive techniques. The research results show that there are strong political dynamics, and there are differences in the interests of the views of each faction in discussions at the DPRD plenary meeting. The strength of the factions supporting the government dominates the discussions, further strengthening the regent's proposal for regional loans. The power of the executive and the majority of factions supporting the government are a strong driving force in smoothing the success of regional loans in Manggarai Regency. The faction that does not approve can finally accept and approve the loan, noting that regional loans must benefit the interests of development and community welfare.

Abstract

The changing power of political parties is one of the most important phenomena studied in democratic political systems. It can shed light on the extent to which political parties are connected to voters, the strengthening or weakening of party institutionalisation, the influence of personalities in politics, the influence of electoral and party institutional design, and so on. Studies on political party change (electoral volatility and stability) have been conducted comparatively, and some studies are conducted by looking at the national context of Indonesia. However, while studies have been conducted on these issues at the local level, they remain overlooked. This article fills this gap by presenting a description and analysis of electoral volatility and stability in West Java in the post-New Order era. Using the theoretical framework of electoral volatility and stability as well as the theory of party system institutionalisation (PSI), this study proposes three findings: high party turnover; higher electoral volatility in West Java compared to national electoral volatility; more competitive political party competition at the district/city level in West Java. The findings on electoral volatility, stability and competition are influenced by the restrictions of political party regulations, which have an impact on the decreasing number of political parties in elections, the personalisation of politics and the presidentialisation of politics, as well as the historical roots of the old-established parties that have been entrenched since the New Order era.

Electoral inconsistencies in open-list proportional systems and model elections challenge discussion of factor complexity. This research investigates the factors influencing political party votes in the 2024 general election, with a focus on five polling stations in Semarang City. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that drive the consistency and inconsistency of political party vote results in Semarang City. It is known that there are variations in vote acquisition among political parties in the DPR, provincial DPRD, and city DPRD elections, reflecting inconsistencies in voting behavior. This research highlights key factors such as the electoral system, local issues, negative or positive evaluations of party elites, and the practice of clientelism as the basis for why votes shift from one party to another. Finally, it provides insights into the researcher's overview at the polling station level, particularly in Semarang City in the context of the 2024 general election, and suggests the need for further combined research, such as expanding the scope of respondents and increasing the number of respondents.

Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have grown prevalent in development discourse across numerous cities, incorporating economic, ecological, and social aspects. The critical discourse on social space in urban sustainable development, viewed through the lens of neo-Marxian socio-spatial politics, underscores the intricate interplay among space, power, and economy within the urban environment. The language of the SDGs is examined through the lens of capitalist economic frameworks and power dynamics in the development of urban environments. Sustainable development frequently entails intricate conflicts of interest among diverse stakeholders, including governments, corporations, local communities, and civil society organizations. Figures such as Henry Lefebvre and David Harvey engage in neo-Marxian social-spatial political critique. Manuel Castell and Edward Soja emphasize that power and spatial control frequently engender conflict through the commodification of space, illustrating that urban and rural areas are often regarded as commodities for economic profit, leading to gentrification, forced evictions, and social alienation. Economic and social disparities are manifested in spatial inequalities within urban development. Neo-Marxist socio-spatial political theorists emphasize equality, social justice, and individuals' rights to urban space. The research of SDGs is predominantly focused on the junction of economic and ecological mutualism, rather than sufficiently addressing the social and spatial components. This neo-Marxian social-spatial political approach elucidates the complexities and inequities inherent in urban development, providing an analytical framework to comprehend and tackle the issues associated with attaining sustainable and inclusive urban growth.

Abstract

The conflict between Indigenous Peoples and P. Toba Pulp Lestari (PT TPL) has been going on for more than three decades and has not led to a resolution. The practice of state capture and oligarchy in PT TPL conflict with Indigenous Peoples dominates almost all conflicts. The political network and material power that PT TPL has with the Government have strengthened the company's existence. The aim of this research is to identify the relationship between the Oligarchy and the State in the conflict between Indigenous Peoples and PT TPL. This research uses qualitative methods with case studies to dissect complex and dynamic relationship patterns in this conflict. This research found that there had been bartering of the interests of the State and the Oligarchy in the TPL case. The diversity of material power they possess makes the oligarchy politically significant in 'controlling' state policy.
