Abstract

The capability and leadership of women local governments in handling mining conflicts is an interesting discourse in gender research because the issue of mining conflicts is often labeled as a masculine issue. For this reason, the author tries to present research on the leadership of women in local government in handling the dynamics of illegal C-excavation mining conflicts in Jombang Regency. This study aims to describe how women in local governments handle the dynamics of illegal quarrying conflicts in Jombang Regency from an ecofeminism perspective. The leadership of the Jombang Regent in handling the illegal C-excavation mining conflict was then analyzed using two theories: ecofeminism and gender and conflict theory. Both theories are used to examine women's capabilities in managing the environment, as well as the position and role of women in handling conflicts.  The research method used is qualitative, involving interviews and literature studies in data collection. This study found that under Mundjidah Wahab's leadership, several efforts were made to address illegal mining activities and conflicts. Some of these efforts include conducting monitoring, socializing environmental impacts and criminal threats to miners, resolving existing conflicts with a persuasive approach, and efforts to make legal products as a solution to overcome illegal c-excavation mining activities, which are the root of the conflict. Although various obstacles in its implementation cause the handling process to be suboptimal, its achievements need to be appreciated. The steps taken by Mundjidah have proven the relevance of ecofeminism theory, which gives confidence to women as actors who care and are most capable of managing the environment.

Data were collected through in-depth interviews with key informants, direct observations, and related document, and subsequently analyzed using a thematic analysis method. The findings reveal that agents play a central and multifaceted role in facilitating community empowerment. These roles include initiating and mobilizing social capital, fostering relationships and access to resources, acting as catalysts with adaptive and innovative habitus, and serving as strategic actors driven by strong motivation, expansive networks, and the capacity to overcome challenges. The study concludes that agents, shaped by a habitus grounded in both professional experience and local cultural values, are instrumental in mobilizing social capital and other resources to initiate and lead the village’s transformative development.

Abstract

This study examines the Pertamina land dispute in Darmo Hill, Surabaya, through the theoretical frameworks of Production of Space (Lefebvre) and Spaces of Capital (Harvey). Employing qualitative content analysis of 2025 headline news articles and agrarian regulation, the study underscores the conflict between state capital interests and citizens’ rights. The results indicate that the state and state-owned enterprises function as collective capital actors, reproducing space via administrative control and converting the use value of housing into the exchange value of assets. The study identifies regulatory ambiguity not as a passive legal byproduct, but as an intentional spatial strategy to sustain capital accumulation in established urban areas. It recommends establishing a participatory and transparent state asset verification mechanism to prevent unilateral claims by state-owned enterprises that undermine legal certainty and substantive justice.

Abstract

This research aims to uncover the transformation of money politics in the 2024 Legislative Election in Malang City. Using the framework of electoral clientelism, this research examines how candidates adapt to tight competition through organized material exchange strategies. The method used is a descriptive qualitative case study approach in two villages in Malang City. Primary data were collected through field observations, participatory monitoring by Malang Corruption Watch (MCW), and in-depth interviews with key informants. The research suggests that money politics in Malang City has evolved from conventional vote buying to "institutionalized clientelism." There are three main modes found: (1) transactional vote buying through cash distribution; (2) relational clientelism through the politicization of social assistance such as PIP scholarships; and (3) programmatic clientelism through the hijacking of aspirational funds for local economic interests. This research also highlights the ineffectiveness of law enforcement due to regulatory gaps in the Election Law and institutional deadlock at the Gakkumdu Center. This systemic failure makes political corruption a legitimate practice for candidates to recoup their electoral investments. Moreover, the emergence of potential digital clientelism, such as the distribution of digital money, has been identified as a new challenge for future election monitoring.

Abstract

The circulation of local elites and shifts in political power in Banten became evident in the 2024 regional elections, which marked the decline of the Tubagus Chasan Sochib political family, historically associated with the Golkar Party. This study examines changes in power relations among political dynasties, parties, and actors using a case study approach based on secondary data from documents, reports, and mass media sources. The findings show that Golkar functioned as a political instrument for the Banten political dynasty in maintaining power, while elite circulation largely occurred within political dynasties through familism and quasi-familism. In the post-reform era, the dynasty and Golkar mainly dominated executive offices, with Airin Rachmi Diany representing the continuation of the Tubagus Chasan Sochib family's influence through quasi-familial ties. However, the defeat of the Airin–Ade pair reflected a shift in power dynamics driven by support from national elites and political parties aligned with the Prabowo Subianto–Gibran Rakabuming Raka coalition. Consequently, elite power in Banten shifted from the Tubagus Chasan Sochib political family to the Dimyati Natakusumah political family.

Abstract

The development of digital media has transformed political communication, particularly through social media as a space for public mobilization. The #IndonesiaGelap movement exemplifies the escalation of such activism involving students and civil society in response to government policies. While prior studies have examined digital activism, political mediatization, and online participation, they often treat these areas separately, leaving a limited understanding of how media logic shapes communication strategies and movement escalation. This study aims to analyze the role of media logic in digital activism within the framework of political mediatization. A qualitative literature review synthesizes relevant academic works on digital activism, media logic, and political communication to identify recurring patterns. The findings show that digital activism follows media logic through simplified narratives, strong visuals, and strategies oriented toward virality and visibility. More importantly, it reflects a fundamental transformation in how movements are constructed, communicated, and mobilized. This study contributes by positioning media logic as a central lens, offering a more integrated understanding of how digital platforms shape contemporary political participation.

Abstract

Corruption is a major challenge in democratic governance because it has a broad impact on societal conditions, particularly economic conditions. For example, political participation shapes public trust in West Aceh Regency. This study uses a qualitative case study approach. Interviews with 10 informants and relevant documents will be conducted. This activity shows that citizens view corruption as a lack of accountability and transparency, and as the unethical use of public resources, not just as a violation of the law. This indicates a decline in public trust in local government institutions, both electoral and non-electoral, due to corruption. This study also examines the impact of corruption on the character of citizen engagement and the weakening of institutional legitimacy, which in turn affects the relationship between society and the state. The results of this study are important for improving formal accountability, transparency, and public oversight mechanisms to encourage more meaningful political participation and rebuild trust in local government bodies. This research is expected to deepen understanding of how citizens perceive corrupt behavior and its influence on local political affairs.

Abstract

This study analyzes the relationship between public opinion on the government’s priority programs and the approval ratings of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The study focuses on the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) and the Red and White Cooperative (KMP) programs. This study employs a quantitative approach using a survey method. The findings show that program evaluation is more strongly associated with approval rating than program awareness. Although awareness of MBG and KMP exhibits significant relationships in some models, these effects are relatively weak and inconsistent. In contrast, satisfaction with MBG and confidence in the future success of KMP are consistently and positively associated with approval ratings of both political leaders. The findings further indicate that both retrospective and prospective evaluations contribute to approval ratings.
